Windows and Inside Layout

A window on the front panel shows off the food inside and lets staff check the order before handing it over. It works especially well for bright desserts and treats packed on top. For hot burgers, the window can steam up, so many brands keep it small or skip it on hot-meal boxes.

Inside, a card divider or insert separates the burger from the fries, so grease and salt do not migrate and the burger bun stays dry. Some designs include a small holder for a dip pot or a fold-out tray for fries. Tell us what goes in your meal and we suggest a layout.

Think about the order in which food goes in. Usually the burger goes down first on one side, the fries stand in their compartment beside it, and lighter items such as a cookie or a toy go on top just before the box is closed. Board, Coatings and Heat

Gable burger boxes are made from folding board with a food-contact grade inner face available on request. A grease-resistant coating keeps oil from burgers and fries soaking into the board and spoiling the outside print. White board gives the brightest colours for kids' designs; kraft board suits burger joints with a rustic, street-food style.

A small vent or perforated area near the top lets steam escape, which helps keep fries crisp and stops condensation dripping onto the burger. This is worth considering for delivery orders that may sit in a bag for some time.

Designing a Box Children Will Love

For kids' meals, every panel is an opportunity. Mazes, spot-the-difference puzzles, colouring outlines and jokes keep children busy at the table, giving parents a few calm minutes. A character or mascot on the front makes the box collectable, and changing the activities every few months gives children a reason to come back.

Keep your brand clear on at least one panel and the top handle, which is visible as the box is carried out. For adult meal deals, a bolder, simpler design with the brand and the meal name works best.

Licensed characters are not needed to make a box fun. Your own simple mascot, drawn in a friendly style, gives children something to recognise and keeps the design fully yours. Sizing for Your Menu

Measure your burger in its wrap, your fries portion and any extras. A children's box can be smaller, while an adult meal deal with a double burger and large fries needs a wider base and more height. The handle adds height above the contents, so check storage space under counters.

Gable boxes arrive flat and fold up quickly with tabs and a lock base. Keep a stack of folded boxes ready at peak times.

Before ordering a large run, make up a sample with your actual menu items and carry it around for a few minutes. Check that the handle is comfortable, the base stays flat with the food inside and the top locks firmly without crushing the burger. Build a Sample With a Real Meal and Carry It to the Car Park

The handle is what makes a gable box, and it fails if the box is sized wrong: too wide a base and the peak will not lock, too short and the burger is crushed when it does. Before a run, make up a sample with your actual burger in its wrap, a full fries portion and the dip pot, lock it, and carry it to the car park and back. If the base stays flat and the top holds, send those dimensions with the quantity.

Decide the window from the menu: fine for cold desserts, small or absent on a hot meal where it fogs. Say if the box is for kids, because activity panels change the artwork. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 a box, with the minimum set per job.
