Custom Subscription Boxes
Custom subscription boxes turn a monthly delivery into something your members look forward to opening. We size the box to what goes inside each month, print it inside and out, and help you plan a design that works for every issue rather than just the first one.

The Box Is Part of What Members Pay For
With a subscription, the packaging is not just a container. It arrives at the same time every month, it is often the moment members share online, and it sets the tone for whatever is inside. A plain brown carton says the products are the whole story. A printed box with a message inside the lid tells members someone thought about them.
That does not mean every subscription needs a heavy luxury box. Snack clubs, sock clubs and craft kits often do best with a light, bright mailer that keeps postage down. Beauty and grooming boxes tend to suit a smoother board and a soft-touch finish. Book and stationery clubs often choose a sturdy box members want to keep for storage. The trick is to match the box to the price of the subscription and the type of product.
Planning One Design for Many Months
The biggest decision for a subscription business is whether the box changes each month or stays the same. A single core design printed in larger runs keeps the cost per box lower and makes reordering simple. Many brands then add variety with a printed card, a sticker on the lid or coloured tissue that changes with each theme.
If you do want a new design every month or quarter, plan the dieline once and keep it fixed. Your designer can then change the artwork while we reuse the same cutting setup, and members get a fresh look without you redesigning the structure each time.
It also helps to plan which months might need a different structure. A box that suits most of the year may struggle with a bulky special edition, so some brands keep a second, deeper size on standby for those months and print it with the same outer artwork. Members still see a consistent look, and you avoid squeezing an awkward item into a box that was never meant for it.
- Fixed outer design with a changing insert card
- Same box, different colour tissue or sticker per theme
- Changing artwork on a fixed dieline
- Plain outside for discreet delivery, printed inside for the reveal

Sizing for Changing Contents
Subscription contents change, so size the box for your typical month rather than one unusual item. List the largest products you expect to send and lay them out together. Measure the length, width and height of that arrangement, then add a little room for tissue or paper fill. That gives you an internal size that will suit most months.
Postage matters too. If your box can stay under the large letter or small parcel limits used by your carrier, you can save a noticeable amount on every delivery. We can help you hit a target depth, for example keeping a box shallow enough for letterbox delivery while still fitting a few products side by side.
Board, Inserts and Finishes
Most subscription boxes are made from E-flute or B-flute corrugated board with a white or kraft outer face. E-flute is thin and prints sharply, which suits beauty and lifestyle boxes. B-flute gives extra crush strength for heavier contents such as candles, jars or drinks. For boxes that will be kept and reused, a thicker board or a rigid box with a lid is worth the extra spend.
Inserts keep products in their places and make the unboxing look arranged. A simple card insert with cut-outs works for fixed items, while a divided tray suits boxes where the products change but the shapes stay similar. Finishes are usually matt or gloss lamination for printed boxes, with soft-touch reserved for higher-priced memberships. Spot UV on a logo, or foil on the lid, can lift a plain design without full coverage.
Inside Printing and the Reveal
Printing inside the box is one of the most effective upgrades for a subscription. A message under the lid, a pattern across the inside walls or a short note about the month's theme gives members something to see the moment they open the flaps. Because the outside is often handled by couriers and gets scuffed, keeping the strongest artwork inside is a sensible choice.
You can also use the inside to explain what is in the box, list the products by name, or point members to your website for recipes, tutorials or account settings. Keep any monthly details on a separate printed card so the box design stays useful from one month to the next.
Getting the Packing Line Right
Once members start to grow, packing day becomes a real job, and the box design can speed it up or slow it down. Mailer boxes with a tuck front and dust flaps fold up in seconds without tape, and they arrive flat so a stack of a few hundred fits in a corner. Boxes that need gluing or taping by hand are fine for small numbers but quickly become a bottleneck.
An insert with clearly shaped cut-outs also helps whoever is packing, because there is only one way each product can go. If you use paper fill or tissue, decide on the amount early and size the box so it closes cleanly without forcing the lid. A lid that bows outward looks untidy in photos and can pop open in transit.
Finally, think about the shipping label. Leave a clear, unprinted area on the lid or a side panel where the label sits, so it never covers your logo or a key message. A small printed return address panel can also save time if you handle your own returns.
How We Work With Subscription Brands
Send us your product list, your expected monthly volume and how you send the boxes. We reply with a custom quote by email within one working day, set up a dieline and send a free design proof showing the inside and outside. You can approve, ask for changes, or request a sample before committing to a full run.
Production then takes 4–7 working days, followed by free tracked UK mainland delivery in 2–3 working days. If any boxes arrive misprinted or damaged, report it within 10 days and we will reprint or refund them. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so new subscription businesses can start small and scale, with prices from £0.25 a box depending on size and print.

Subscription Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering subscription boxes.
Should our subscription box design change every month?
It does not have to. Many brands keep one outer design and change a printed card, sticker or tissue colour each month. If you want new artwork regularly, we keep the dieline fixed so only the print changes.
How do we size a box when the contents change?
Lay out the largest set of products you expect to send in a typical month and measure the arrangement. Add a little room for fill, and that becomes the internal size.
Can the box fit through a letterbox?
Yes, if the contents are flat enough. Tell us your target depth and we will design a slim mailer around it to help keep postage costs down.
Is printing inside the box worth it?
For subscriptions it often is. The inside is what members see when they open the box, and it stays clean while the outside gets handled in transit.
Can we keep the outside plain for discreet delivery?
Yes. A plain or lightly printed outside with full print inside is popular for personal care and adult subscriptions.
Which board is best for heavier items like candles?
B-flute corrugated board gives more crush strength than E-flute. Pair it with a card insert so jars and candles cannot slide around.
Can you make inserts that suit different products each month?
A divided tray with general-purpose compartments works well when products vary but shapes are similar. For fixed items, a cut-out insert holds each piece in place.
Can we order a small first run while we build members?
Yes. Minimums are quoted per job and kept low, so a new subscription can start with a modest run and reorder as numbers grow.
Do you supply printed cards to go inside?
We can print insert cards, thank-you notes and product guides alongside the boxes so everything arrives together.
Can members reuse the box?
A thicker board or a rigid box with a lid is often kept for storage. If you want boxes to be kept, design the inside print to look good on a shelf.
How do we plan around our monthly dispatch date?
Allow time for the free proof, then 4–7 working days of production and 2–3 working days of free tracked UK mainland delivery. Ordering a few months of boxes at once avoids last-minute pressure.
