Cartons That Take the Knocks
Shipping boxes are the workhorses of the range. They are regular slotted cartons, the four-flap style you see in every warehouse, made from B flute or double wall corrugated so they can be stacked on a pallet, thrown in a van and still arrive square. Taping the top and bottom seams closes them securely.
Because we cut every carton to order, you are not stuck choosing the nearest stock size. A carton that matches the product exactly needs less void fill, packs faster and often drops into a cheaper courier band. Print is usually kept simple on shipping boxes, such as a logo and a web address in one colour, but full colour is available.
Good Uses for Shipping Boxes
- Heavier online orders such as homeware, garden equipment or bottled goods
- Multi-item orders that need an outer carton around smaller boxes
- Trade and wholesale deliveries to shops
- Moving stock between your unit and a fulfilment partner
B Flute or Double Wall?
B flute, about 3 mm thick, is a solid single wall board for most parcels. Double wall bonds two flutes together for roughly twice the stacking strength, and it is the one to choose for heavy, fragile or high-value goods. If your boxes post on their own rather than inside a carton, custom mailer boxes may suit lighter orders better.
Choosing the Board by Weight
The right board depends mostly on what goes inside and how the carton travels. As a starting point:
| Contents | Usual board | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Light goods, single parcels | E flute | Slim, prints well, enough for most items under a couple of kilos |
| Everyday orders and stock moves | B flute | About 3 mm, holds its shape when stacked in a van |
| Heavy, fragile or palletised goods | Double wall | Two flutes bonded together for crush and puncture strength |
| Very dense items such as tiles or tins | Double wall with inserts | Inserts or dividers stop the load shifting at the corners |
Send the product weight with your sizes and we confirm the board on the custom quote. The double wall corrugated box range covers the heaviest work.
Sealing and Handling
Regular slotted cartons are closed with tape across the centre seam on the top and bottom. For heavier loads, an H-pattern, tape along the centre seam and both edge seams, keeps the flaps from springing open if the carton is dropped on a corner.
Hand holes can be cut into the end panels of larger cartons so they are easier to lift. They weaken the panel slightly, so we suggest them only on B flute or double wall. Printed handling marks such as this way up or fragile can be added to the print at no extra set-up.
- Tape the bottom first, then pack, then tape the top
- Fill gaps so the top flaps sit flat rather than bowing in
- Keep labels on the largest flat panel, away from seams
- Store flat cartons dry and off the floor
Plain, Logo or Printed Cartons
Many shipping boxes are never seen by the end customer, so plain kraft is often the sensible choice. When the carton does reach a customer, a one colour logo and web address on two sides is usually enough to make it recognisable on a doorstep or a warehouse shelf.
Full colour print works on white-lined board when the carton is part of the product, such as a hamper or a large kit. A roll of printed packing tape with your logo is the lowest cost way to brand plain cartons that are already in use.

Plain kraft cartons can still carry a one colour logo on two sides at very little extra cost.

Send the product size and weight; we size the carton and choose the flute.
Board
B flute single wall for everyday parcels; double wall for weight, fragile goods and stacking. Kraft outer liners are standard and a white outer liner is available when print needs to look brighter.
Most customers print a logo, a web address or handling marks in 1 or 2 colours. Full colour coverage is possible on white board if the carton is also part of the unboxing.
Closing
Regular slotted cartons are closed with tape. Ask about a lift-off lid version if you want a two-piece box for trade deliveries or storage.

Shipping Boxes Questions
What customers ask before ordering shipping boxes.
What is the difference between a shipping box and a mailer box?
A shipping box is a four-flap carton taped shut, built mainly for strength. A mailer box has a hinged lid and locking tabs, so it closes without tape and doubles as a presentation box. Shipping boxes suit heavier or bulkier orders.
When do I need double wall?
Choose double wall for heavy items, fragile goods, or cartons that will be stacked on pallets. For most everyday parcels B flute single wall is enough.
Can you print on shipping boxes?
Yes. Most customers print a logo and a web address in 1 or 2 colours on the sides or the top. Full colour print is available on white board.
Can I order a carton in an exact size?
Yes. Every shipping box is cut to the internal length, width and depth you give us in mm, so you can match the product rather than the nearest stock size.
Do shipping boxes come flat?
Yes. They are delivered flat and bundled. You fold them up and tape the base when you pack.
Can you add dividers inside?
Yes. Corrugated dividers can split a carton into cells for bottles and jars. See custom box inserts.
Will a printed carton cost much more than plain?
Simple 1 colour print adds less than many people expect. Send the size and quantity and the custom quote will show plain and printed prices side by side if you ask.
What is the minimum for shipping boxes?
Minimum quantities are kept low and set for each job. Larger cartons can be ordered in smaller runs than you might think, so ask with the quantity you need.
How quickly can I get shipping boxes?
Production takes 4–7 working days after proof approval, and free tracked delivery to the UK mainland takes 2–3 working days.
What if shipping cartons arrive crushed?
Report damage within 10 days of delivery with a photo and we reprint or refund the affected cartons.
