A Small Box With a Distinct Shape
Pillow boxes take their name from their shape: a flat sleeve of card with curved ends that push in to close, so the finished box bulges gently in the middle like a cushion. They arrive flat, take seconds to fold, and look more considered than a paper bag or an envelope for small items.
They work best for light products, as the curved ends are a closure rather than a structure. Think hair ties, socks, jewellery, gift cards, sample sachets, soaps and wedding favours. Sizing a Pillow Box

How a Pillow Box Closes
A pillow box is a single sheet of card with curved score lines at each end. Once the side seam is glued, the box opens into a tube, and pressing the curved ends inwards closes it. The result is a soft, rounded shape with no flaps showing and no glue needed when you pack.
Pillow boxes are delivered flat and take very little storage room. They hold best with light products, because the curved ends rely on the stiffness of the card rather than a locking tab.
- Pop the flat box open along its seam.
- Press one curved end inwards to close it.
- Slide the product in, wrapped in tissue if you like.
- Press the other end closed, and add a sticker or ribbon to finish.

Print and Finish on a Small Box
A pillow box has two main faces and very little room, so simple artwork works best. A centred logo on the front and a short message or contact detail on the back is a common layout. Full colour patterns suit the shape well, because the curve shows the print from several angles.
Kraft card gives a natural look for handmade products. White card makes colour brighter. A window can be cut into one face so the product shows, and foil on a logo is one of the most effective finishes on such a small box.
