Custom Lenticular Stickers

from £0.25 a stickerPriced per job · low minimums

Custom lenticular stickers change as they move: tilt one and a logo flips to a product, a character waves, or a scene gains depth. We print them on ridged lens film with a self-adhesive back, cut to shape, for promotions, merchandise and packaging that people want to pick up and play with.

How Lenticular Printing Works

A lenticular sticker has two layers working together. Underneath is a printed image made from two or more pictures sliced into very thin strips and interlaced. On top is a clear plastic sheet moulded with rows of tiny lenses. Each lens shows the viewer only one set of strips at a time, depending on the angle, so as the sticker tilts, the visible picture changes.

The effect depends on the precise alignment of the lens rows with the printed strips, which is why lenticular printing is a specialist process rather than an ordinary sticker run. The lens sheet also gives the sticker a ridged texture and a slight thickness that customers notice the moment they touch it.

Because the lens is clear plastic, the colours are vivid and protected from scuffing, and the sticker holds up well on bags, laptops and packaging. p2 Plain vinyl pieces for the same uses are covered on our vinyl stickers page.

Flip, Animation and 3D Depth

There are three main lenticular effects, and choosing the right one shapes how you design the artwork.

A flip switches cleanly between two, or sometimes three, completely different images. It is the clearest effect and the easiest to design: a before and after, a question and answer, a logo and a product. Animation uses a short sequence of frames to create movement, such as a wink, a wave or a ball bouncing. It works best with small, simple movements. 3D depth uses layers placed at different apparent distances, so the foreground seems to float above the background. p1 A static alternative with a metallic shift is the hologram sticker on rainbow film.

  • Two-image flip for reveals and before and after messages
  • Three-image flip for a short story in panels
  • Short animation for characters and mascots
  • Zoom effect that makes a logo seem to grow
  • 3D depth for scenes, landscapes and product hero shots
  • Morph that blends one face or object into another

Designing Artwork That Flips Cleanly

The most common problem with lenticular stickers is ghosting, where a faint trace of one image remains visible behind the other. Ghosting is worst when the two images have very different brightness, such as a dark scene flipping to a white background. Choosing images with similar overall tone, or using a shared background colour across both frames, gives a much cleaner switch.

Keep important text large and avoid fine lines that run parallel to the lens direction, which can break up. For animations, fewer frames with bigger changes read better than many frames with tiny differences. For 3D, separate your artwork into clear layers: background, middle and foreground.

Send us the individual images as separate files at full resolution. We prepare the interlaced file ourselves and show a description of the effect alongside the free proof, so you know what each viewing angle will reveal. p2 The same artwork rules apply to glitter stickers with a textured surface, where fine detail also softens.

Shapes, Sizes and Lens Direction

Lenticular stickers can be cut to circles, squares, rounded rectangles or custom outlines. Simple shapes work best, because the lens sheet is stiffer than paper and very intricate outlines can lift at sharp points. A small radius on every corner helps the sticker stay flat.

Lens direction matters. Vertical lenses change the image as the sticker is turned left to right, which is the natural movement when someone walks past a poster or tilts a phone. Horizontal lenses change as the sticker is tilted up and down, which suits stickers on products picked up and examined in the hand. Tell us how the sticker will be viewed and we will choose the direction.

Larger stickers show the effect more clearly. A tiny sticker can still flip, but animation and depth effects need some size to be appreciated. p2 For a sticker that wraps a bottle, our water bottle stickers in flexible vinyl suit the curve better.

Where Lenticular Stickers Work Best

Promotions are the obvious home for lenticular. A sticker given out at an event, or tucked into an order, gets passed around and shown to friends, which ordinary stickers rarely do. Music, film and gaming merchandise uses flips and animations to bring characters to life on a small scale.

On packaging, a lenticular sticker on a lid or seal turns a plain box into something collectable. Toy and trading card brands use them as limited edition markers. Drinks and snack brands use them for competitions, where the second image reveals a message or a code.

Schools, charities and clubs also use them as reward stickers, because children love the movement.

Think about the moment the sticker is first seen. If it is handed over at a stand, a bold flip with a clear message works because the person tilts it immediately. If it sits on a shelf as part of a pack, a 3D depth effect catches the eye as shoppers walk along the aisle, even before they pick anything up.

Lenticular stickers cost more per piece than ordinary vinyl, so they work best as a highlight rather than as everyday labels. Many brands combine them: plain printed labels on every product, and a lenticular sticker on special editions or in promotional bundles.

Adhesive and Application Tips

A permanent adhesive suits packaging, product labels and laptop stickers. A removable adhesive suits promotional giveaways that might go on glass or painted surfaces. Because the lens sheet is stiff, lenticular stickers are best applied to flat or gently curved surfaces. Tight curves, such as a narrow bottle neck, can cause the edges to lift.

Apply the sticker to a clean, dry surface and press firmly from the centre outwards. For packaging lines, tell us if the stickers will be hand-applied or machine-applied, and we will supply them on sheets or rolls to suit.

Store stickers flat in their original packaging, at room temperature and away from direct sunlight, until they are used. Lens film can curl slightly if stored in a hot van or a sunny window, which makes it harder to apply neatly. p2 Rolls for applicators are described on our die-cut labels on rolls page.

Match the Brightness of Both Images Before You Send Them

Nearly every lenticular job that disappoints does so because the two frames differ in brightness, and the darker one haunts the lighter one as a ghost. Before you send artwork, put both images side by side and give them a shared background or a similar overall tone; a logo on white flipping to a product on black is the worst case. Send each frame as a separate full-resolution file and tell us how the sticker will be viewed, so we choose the lens direction.

Keep the shape simple with rounded corners, and pick permanent or removable adhesive from where it will be stuck. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with the minimum set per job and simpler items in the range from £0.25.

The free proof comes with a written description of what each angle reveals, since the effect cannot be shown on screen. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval, and the stickers reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Brands that want the same effect on a larger surface sometimes move to large bumper stickers in plain vinyl for the vehicle and keep lenticular for the hand-held piece.

Lenticular Stickers Questions

What buyers ask before ordering lenticular stickers.

What is the difference between a flip and an animation?

A flip switches between two or three distinct images. An animation uses several frames to show a short movement, like a wave or a bounce.

Why does a faint image show behind the other?

That is ghosting, usually caused by images with very different brightness. Similar tones or a shared background give a cleaner flip.

Which way should the lenses run?

Vertical lenses change when tilted left and right, ideal for stickers viewed while walking past. Horizontal lenses suit items held and tilted in the hand.

Can lenticular stickers be cut to a custom shape?

Yes, simple custom outlines work well. Very intricate shapes can lift at sharp points, so we add small corner radii.

Will they stick to a curved bottle?

Gentle curves are fine. Tight curves such as narrow bottle necks can cause the stiff lens film to lift at the edges.

How small can a lenticular sticker be?

Flips still work on small stickers, but animation and depth effects need more size. Around 50 mm and larger shows the effect best.

Do I need to interlace the images myself?

No. Send the separate images and we prepare the interlaced file, then explain the effect alongside your free proof.

Can the second image reveal a competition code?

Yes, a flip can hide a message or code that appears at a certain angle, which works well for promotions. Keep the code large, because fine type breaks up across the lenses.

Can I have lenticular stickers ready for a launch event?

Plan for 4 to 7 working days of production after proof approval and 2 to 3 working days for free tracked UK mainland delivery. Add a few days at the start for the interlacing proof.

What if the flip effect is weak on my batch?

Tell us within 10 days of delivery and we will reprint or refund stickers that are faulty or misprinted. A short video of the sticker tilting helps us see the fault.

Are lenticular stickers supplied on rolls?

They can be supplied on rolls for machine application or on sheets for hand application. Let us know which you need.
