Where Car Stickers Earn Their Keep
A sticker on a car is one of the few pieces of branding that travels for free. A garage that puts a neat logo on the rear window of every car it services gets its name seen in traffic, in supermarket car parks and on the school run for months. A car club sticker tells other owners at a show that you belong to the same crowd. A brand sticker given away at an event ends up on laptops, water bottles and van windows as well as cars.
Because people choose to put them on their own vehicles, car stickers need to look good enough that someone wants them there. A crisp outline, a clean shape and colours that hold up against glass or paintwork matter more than squeezing in every piece of information. The best ones are simple enough to read from a car length away.
Stickers also cost very little per piece compared with other forms of vehicle branding. A full van wrap is a large investment, while a set of well-placed stickers on doors, rear doors and windows gives a small trade business a professional look for a fraction of that spend, and can be replaced cheaply when a phone number or logo changes. Clubs that want a slogan rather than a logo usually order our bumper stickers for clubs.
Window Decals Versus Bodywork Stickers
The surface decides the build. Stickers for the outside of a window or for paintwork are printed on white or clear vinyl with a strong permanent adhesive, and they face outwards. Stickers that go on the inside of the glass and read through it are printed in reverse on a clear film with the adhesive on the printed side, which keeps the print away from weather and scrapers.
Cut lettering is a third option. Here there is no background at all, just individual letters or shapes in solid coloured vinyl, transferred to the car using application tape. It gives the cleanest, painted-on look and suits dealer names, website addresses and club lettering along a rear screen. Stickers that must come off without residue, such as permits, are better as static clings for inside glass.
- Outside-facing printed vinyl for bodywork, bumpers and windows
- Inside-glass clear decals that read through the windscreen or rear window
- Cut vinyl lettering with no background, applied with transfer tape
- Static cling stickers for temporary windscreen notices that leave nothing behind

Choosing the Right Size for Custom Car Stickers
Most rear windows have a usable band about 150 mm high before the wiper sweep or heater lines get in the way, so wide, shallow designs fit best there. Bumper and bodywork stickers can be larger, but curved panels limit how much flat area is available; a sticker much wider than 300 mm on a curved bumper can lift at the ends.
For club badges and small brand logos, a round or shield shape around 80 to 100 mm across works on side windows and fuel caps. Measure the spot you have in mind on a typical car in your audience and hold a paper cut-out against it. It is a quick test that saves a lot of guesswork.
If you are handing stickers to customers, offer two sizes rather than one. Owners of small hatchbacks often find a big rear-window design crowds the glass, while owners of vans and estates want something they can see from the other end of a car park. Two sizes of the same artwork cover nearly everyone without adding much to the order. Fleet branding that needs to move between vehicles uses the larger car door magnets for fleets.
Vinyl, Inks and Lamination
We print on polymeric outdoor vinyl, which stays flexible and does not shrink back from its edges in hot sun. The print is protected by a clear laminate that guards against UV fading, road grime and the brushes of an automatic car wash. A gloss laminate gives the look of fresh paint and makes colours vivid; matt cuts glare and suits understated or premium designs.
Reflective vinyl is worth considering for garages and recovery firms, because the logo catches headlights at night. Chrome and metallic effect films suit car clubs that want something showier on the rear screen. For short-term promotions, a removable adhesive comes off cleanly when the event is over. The laminates are compared in our guide to laminates for outdoor use.
Artwork That Survives the Cutter
Die-cut stickers follow the outline of your design with a small border, usually around 2 to 3 mm. Thin spikes, hairline text and tiny gaps inside letters can tear when the backing is removed, so we thicken them slightly on the proof or suggest a simpler outline. Text below about 5 mm high is hard to read at a distance and is best left to a flyer or website.
Supply vector artwork if you can, as it cuts with sharp edges at any size. If you only have a photo or a screenshot of your logo, our design team can redraw it as part of the free proof. Check the colours against your brand guide, because vinyl and screen colours never look quite the same.
Think, too, about how the sticker looks against the car. A design on clear vinyl relies on the colour behind it, so dark artwork can disappear on tinted glass. Adding a white outline or a white underlay behind key parts keeps the design readable on any colour of car or window. The same cutting rules apply to our logo stickers cut to shape for packaging.
Fitting Without Bubbles
Clean the surface with soapy water, rinse and dry it, then wipe with a little isopropyl alcohol to remove wax. Avoid fitting in direct sun or below about 10 degrees, as the adhesive grips unevenly. For larger stickers, peel back a strip of backing at one edge, line it up, then press outwards with a soft squeegee or credit card wrapped in a cloth.
Leave the sticker for a day before washing the car. Small bubbles often settle on their own as the vinyl breathes; any that remain can be pricked with a fine pin and pressed flat. We include short fitting notes with every order if you are handing stickers out to customers. Drivers who change their minds often prefer magnetic bumper stickers that lift off.
Photograph the Panel Where the Sticker Will Go
A car sticker is sized by its home, so before you order take a photo of the window or panel it will sit on with a tape measure in shot. A rear window on a hatchback gives far less room than a van door, and a sticker that looks right on screen can be lost at 100 mm or absurd at 300 mm. From the photo we can suggest a size. Decide next whether the sticker goes on glass or paint, because inside-glass application needs the artwork reversed and a different adhesive. Supply the artwork as a vector file so the cutter can follow the outline cleanly, and keep fine strokes above 1 mm. The quote comes by email within one working day, the free proof shows the cut line around your design, and stickers are made in four to seven working days after approval. UK mainland delivery is free and tracked, and clubs ordering a small batch for members are welcome, with minimums quoted per job. Site crews who want the same vinyl on their helmets use our hard hat stickers in the same vinyl.

Car Stickers Questions
What buyers ask before ordering car stickers.
Will the stickers survive an automatic car wash?
Yes. Outdoor vinyl with a protective laminate is made to cope with car washes, rain and road spray. Let the sticker settle for a day after fitting before the first wash.
Can I put a sticker on the inside of my windscreen?
We make inside-glass decals for that, printed in reverse on clear film so they read correctly from outside. Keep them clear of the driver's view and any wiper sweep area.
What is the difference between die-cut and cut lettering?
A die-cut sticker is a printed piece of vinyl trimmed to the outline of the design. Cut lettering has no background at all; each letter is cut from solid vinyl and applied with transfer tape for a painted-on look.
Will the sticker damage paintwork when removed?
Applied to sound factory paint, a quality vinyl sticker can normally be removed with gentle heat from a hairdryer. Resprayed or damaged paint carries more risk, so test on a hidden area if in doubt.
Can you make reflective stickers?
Yes. Reflective vinyl catches headlights at night and is popular with garages, breakdown firms and driving schools.
My logo has very fine text. Is that a problem?
Hairline details can tear when the sticker is peeled. On the free proof we suggest thickening them slightly or simplifying the outline so every sticker lifts cleanly.
Can I order stickers on sheets to hand out?
Yes. Kiss-cut sheets hold several stickers on one backing, which is handy for club packs and event goody bags.
What artwork format should I send?
Vector files such as PDF, AI or EPS cut best because the cutter follows the outline exactly. If you only have an image, send the largest version you have and we will redraw the outline for the proof. Fine detail may need simplifying, which we show you before printing.
How much do car stickers cost?
Small die-cut stickers start from £0.25 each, with the final price depending on size, material and quantity. You receive a custom quote by email within one working day.
Can I get removable stickers for a short promotion?
Yes, we offer a removable adhesive that holds for a few months outdoors and peels away cleanly afterwards. It suits sponsorship decals and event promotions. Tell us how long the sticker needs to stay on and we choose the adhesive.
How soon could stickers be ready for a car show?
Allow four to seven working days after proof approval, plus two to three working days for free tracked UK mainland delivery. Tell us the show date when you order.
