Custom Car Door Magnets
Custom car door magnets are flexible printed signs that cling to the steel panels of a car or van door, turning a personal vehicle into a branded work vehicle in seconds. Peel them off at the end of the day and the car is yours again, with no adhesive residue and no permanent livery.

Advertising That Comes Off at Weekends
Plenty of sole traders use the same car for work and family life. A full vinyl wrap or permanent lettering makes sense for a dedicated van, but it is a big commitment on a car you also take to the school gates or on holiday. A pair of door magnets gives you the visibility of signwriting when you are working and a plain car when you are not.
They are also useful for anyone who changes vehicles often, leases cars on short terms or simply wants to test whether vehicle signage brings in calls before paying for a wrap. Because the sign is not stuck to the paint, there is nothing to remove when the car goes back, and you can move the magnets to a new vehicle in a minute. Where a vehicle is branded all year, permanent custom car stickers cost less per month than magnets.
Who Puts Magnets on Their Doors
Tradespeople are the biggest group: electricians, plumbers, decorators, gardeners, cleaners and handymen who park outside customers' homes all day. A clear sign on the door tells neighbours who is working on the street, and a surprising number of jobs come from people writing down a number while walking past.
Delivery drivers and couriers use magnets to identify themselves at pick-up points. Driving instructors, mobile hairdressers, dog groomers, carers and home-visit therapists use them so clients recognise the car arriving. Estate agents and letting staff add them to pool cars, and small businesses running a one-off promotion add a temporary magnet with an offer and a web address.
Small teams find magnets handy for a different reason. When staff use their own cars for visits, a company magnet makes them easy to identify for customers who are expecting someone at the door, and it comes off again when that employee leaves or changes role. Smaller messages for the tailgate suit our magnetic bumper stickers instead of a full door sign.

Material and How Car Door Magnets Hold On
The sign is made from a flexible magnetic sheet with a printed vinyl face laminated on top. The magnet is thick enough to grip firmly at normal road speeds, yet bendy enough to follow the gentle curve of a car door. The printed face is protected against rain, road spray and sunlight, so colours stay bright through daily use.
Magnets only stick to steel. Many modern cars use aluminium or composite panels on some doors and bonnets, so test your doors with a fridge magnet before ordering. Deep body creases, plastic trims and door handles also get in the way, so the sign should sit on the flattest area of the panel, usually below the window and between the wheel arches.
If your car has steel doors but a crease runs through the middle, you can still use a magnet. Choose a slightly shorter sign that sits wholly above or below the crease, or ask for a custom shape that follows the line. A sign that lies completely flat will always hold better than a larger one that bridges a fold in the metal. The printed face uses the same laminated vinyl as our laminated vinyl stickers, so it copes with rain and sun.
Sizing a Sign for Your Door
Measure the flat area of the door, not the whole door. Run a tape measure across the panel and note where it starts to curve or where a crease line or handle interrupts it. That gives you the largest size that will lie flat. A sign that bridges a crease will lift at the edges and can catch the wind.
Most cars take a sign somewhere between A3 and a wide landscape panel. Vans offer more room, so larger magnets fit easily on sliding doors and rear panels. If you drive different vehicles, choose a size that fits the smallest door so one set works everywhere. Rounded corners are standard because they are less likely to peel up at speed. If the flat area is small, a bumper sticker for the rear may carry the phone number better.
Design for a Moving Target
People see a car door for a few seconds at most, often from across a road. Keep the message to three things: what you do, your name and how to reach you. A phone number in large, heavy type matters more than a long list of services. High contrast colours, such as white on a dark background or black on yellow, can be read from much further away than subtle tones.
Your logo should be big enough to recognise, but not at the expense of the number. A web address is useful if it is short. Avoid fine script fonts and thin outlines, which disappear at a distance. The free design proof shows your artwork at its real size so you can judge readability before printing.
Think about both sides of the car. Most customers order a matching pair so the sign reads the right way on each door, and some add a smaller rear magnet with the phone number alone, which is what the driver behind you sees in traffic for longest. A QR code sticker inside the cab window can carry the booking link that does not belong on a moving sign.
- One clear trade or service line
- Business name or logo
- Large phone number in heavy type
- Short web address or social handle
- High contrast colour pairing
Looking After Your Magnets
A little care keeps a door magnet working well. Apply it to a clean, dry panel so grit does not get trapped underneath. Take it off once a week, wipe both the magnet and the paintwork, and let them dry before refitting. This stops moisture sitting under the sign and protects the paint.
Store magnets flat or on a fridge or filing cabinet rather than rolled tightly, and never fold them. Remove them before going through an automatic car wash, and if the car will be parked in strong sun for a long time, lifting them off now and then helps the paint underneath age evenly with the rest of the door. Window messages that must come off cleanly are better as static clings for glass than adhesive vinyl.
Test a Fridge Magnet on the Door First
Before ordering door magnets, do two quick checks on the vehicle itself. Press a fridge magnet against the flattest part of each door to confirm the panel is steel, because many modern doors and most bumpers are plastic or aluminium. Then measure the flat area between the creases, handle and trim, since a sign that overlaps a body line lifts at speed. Most vans take a sign around 600 x 300 mm; cars are often closer to 450 x 250 mm. Keep the phone number the largest element, because a sign is read in the seconds a van sits at lights, and reserve finer detail for permanent car stickers on the rear.
Send the panel measurements, the number of vehicles and the wording, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day. The free proof shows the sign at scale with rounded corners marked. Production takes 4 to 7 working days once approved, magnets ship flat by tracked courier to UK mainland addresses, and a misprinted or damaged sign reported within 10 days is reprinted or refunded.

Car Door Magnets Questions
What buyers ask before ordering car door magnets.
Will a car door magnet stick to my car?
Only if the door panel is steel. Try a fridge magnet on the flattest part of the door before ordering. Aluminium and plastic panels will not hold a magnetic sign.
Can the magnet damage my paintwork?
Used properly it should not. Apply it to clean, dry paint and remove it weekly to wipe underneath. Problems usually come from trapped grit or moisture left for long periods.
Will it fly off on the motorway?
A correctly sized magnet on a flat steel panel grips firmly at normal road speeds. Make sure the whole sign sits flat with no edges bridging a crease or trim, as lifted edges catch the wind.
What should I put on the sign?
Keep it to your trade, your name and a large phone number, with a short web address if you have one. People only see the door for a moment, so fewer words are read more often.
How do I measure a van door for a magnetic sign?
Measure the flat area between the creases, handle and trim rather than the whole door, and keep the sign at least 20 mm inside that area on every side. A sign that crosses a body line will not sit flat and can lift in wind.
Can I take the magnets off every evening?
Yes, that is what they are designed for. Store them flat or stuck to a metal surface such as a fridge, and avoid folding or rolling them tightly.
Can I go through a car wash with them on?
Remove them before an automatic car wash. The brushes and high-pressure jets can lift the edges and push the sign off.
Can I order just one pair?
Yes. Minimums are quoted per job, so a single pair for one car is fine. Fleet orders for several vehicles can be quoted together with matching artwork.
Do you make shaped magnets, not just rectangles?
Yes, magnets can be cut to a custom outline such as a logo shape. Keep the shape simple with no thin points, so the edges stay flat on the door.
How long will the print last outside?
The printed face is laminated to resist rain, road spray and sunlight in everyday use. Weekly cleaning and storing them flat when not in use helps them stay looking sharp.
How quickly can I have them on my van?
Production takes 4–7 working days after proof approval and free tracked delivery to the UK mainland takes 2–3 working days. They are ready to fit as soon as they arrive.
