Custom Coffee Bag Labels
Custom coffee bag labels let a small roaster use one stock of plain bags for every coffee on the menu, with the origin, roast level and tasting notes printed on the label instead of the bag. We print them on rolls or sheets, in paper or film, and send a free proof before anything goes to press.

Why Roasters Label Rather Than Print Bags
Printed bags look wonderful, but they lock you into one design per coffee. A roaster with a rotating single-origin menu might change beans every few weeks, and ordering printed bags for each one quickly ties up money and shelf space in stock that may never be used.
Labels free you from that. You keep a single stock of plain kraft, white or black bags with a one-way valve, and apply a label for each coffee as you pack it. When a new lot arrives, you only need new labels, not new bags. It also means a tiny micro-lot can look just as polished as your house blend.
Many roasters use a two-label system: a branded front label that never changes, and a smaller information label that carries the details for each coffee. The front label can be ordered in larger quantities to bring the unit cost down, while the information labels are printed in shorter runs as the menu changes. Roasters who outgrow labels move to printed coffee bags for bigger runs, often keeping the label for the origin.
What to Put on a Coffee Bag Label
Coffee drinkers who buy whole beans from a roaster tend to read the label closely. Give them the details they look for, laid out so they can find them at a glance: The same panel layout is used on our product labels with ingredient panels for other foods.
- Coffee name and origin: country, region and, where you know it, the farm, washing station or cooperative.
- Process and variety: washed, natural or honey, plus varieties if you share them.
- Roast level and suggested brewing: espresso, filter or both, with a simple roast scale graphic if it suits your style.
- Tasting notes: three or four flavour notes are plenty; more becomes noise.
- Roast date and best before: often left as a blank box to write in or stamp, so one label works for every batch.
- Weight and your business details: net weight and your name and address as required on food packaging.

Choosing Label Shapes and Sizes
Measure the flat front panel of your bag, below the valve and above any gusset fold. That panel sets the maximum label size. A 250 g stand-up pouch often has room for a label around 90 mm wide; a 1 kg bag can take one well over 120 mm. Leave a margin of at least 10 mm on each side so the label does not wrap onto a curve, where it may lift.
Rectangles and rounded rectangles are the most practical, because they fit the bag's flat face and are quick to apply straight. Circles and ovals look distinctive and suit a logo seal on the front with the details on the back. Die-cut shapes, such as a mountain outline or a coffee cherry, are possible and make a strong brand statement.
If you seal bags with a tin tie, check that the label sits below the fold line, otherwise it creases each time the bag is rolled down. A small round label on the top seal is covered on the round stickers for lid seals page.
Paper, Film, Finishes and Supply for Coffee Bag Labels
Uncoated paper labels have a natural, tactile feel that suits kraft bags and handwritten roast dates. They take pen and ink stamps well, which matters if you write the date on each bag. A textured paper adds an artisan touch for premium lots.
Gloss or matt coated paper gives sharper colour reproduction and resists light handling. Film labels, such as white or clear polypropylene, are tougher and resist oils from the beans and moisture from a kitchen counter. A clear label on a kraft or black bag gives a printed-on-the-bag look without the cost of printed bags.
Finishes include gloss or matt lamination, foil blocking for a logo and spot varnish. If you want to write on the label, avoid full lamination on the writing area, or choose a writable matt coating.
Labels on rolls suit roasters who apply them with a hand-held or tabletop applicator, or who pack in volume. Tell us the core size and the direction the label should come off the roll, which matters if you use a machine.
Sheets of labels suit small roasters who apply by hand and want to print variable details, such as roast dates, on an office printer. If you plan to overprint at your desk, let us know the printer type so we can suggest a compatible paper.
Whichever you choose, keep a few spare labels aside from each run so you can reorder the exact same item later without guessing at the design. Bags that go in a fridge or on a damp counter suit our BOPP labels that resist moisture.
Building a Label System That Grows
Before you design the first label, sketch out how the range might look in a year's time. If every coffee has its own colour band in the same position, customers learn to read your shelf quickly, and your team can tell one bag from another at a glance while packing.
A simple template helps: logo in a fixed place, coffee name in the same typeface, a coloured strip that changes per origin or roast level, and the details panel in the same spot every time. New coffees then take minutes to design, and our proofs come back faster because the layout is already settled.
Keep a master file for each label with the material and size noted, so a reorder is a quick email rather than a fresh brief. Jars and tins on the same shelf can carry the identical layout as jar labels for the same menu.
Who Orders Coffee Labels
Our coffee labels are used by small speciality roasters, cafes that roast in-house, subscription coffee services, farm shops and delis packing their own blends, and corporate gift companies adding a branded coffee to a hamper. Tea merchants and hot chocolate makers use the same approach for their pouches.
Larger roasters use labels for limited lots and competition coffees, keeping their printed bags for the core range and using labels to launch something new without committing to a full bag run. Shops that bag at the counter often pair the labels with tin tie bags for retail.
Stick a Blank Label on Your Bag First
Before ordering coffee labels, cut a piece of paper to the size you have in mind and stick it on a filled bag. Roasters are often surprised how much of a 250 g pouch a 90 mm label covers, or how a label placed too high rides up over the fold. Settle the size and position that way, then decide paper or film by where the bags live: paper for shelves, film for bags that get splashed or chilled. List every coffee on the menu with its label wording, because several designs can share one order and one quote. Artwork is a template with the origin, roast and notes as editable text, so send a vector logo and the copy as plain text and we set each variant on a free proof. The quote comes by email within one working day, minimums are low and quoted per job, and labels are printed in 4 to 7 working days after approval, with free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses. Seals, stickers and jar labels for the same shelf are listed with our other labels and stickers.

Coffee Bag Labels Questions
What buyers ask before ordering coffee bag labels.
Can I write the roast date on the label by hand?
Yes. Choose an uncoated or writable matt paper and leave a blank box in the design. Avoid gloss lamination over the writing area, as ink smudges on it.
Will the label stick to kraft coffee bags?
Yes, our labels use an adhesive suited to paper and film bags. Apply them to a clean, flat panel and press firmly from the centre outwards.
Should I choose paper or film labels?
Paper suits a natural look and handwriting. Film is tougher, resists oils and moisture and gives a sleeker finish, especially as a clear label on a coloured bag.
Can I order labels for several coffees at once?
Yes, several designs can share one order. This is how most roasters handle a changing menu without large minimums on each coffee.
What size label fits a 250 g stand-up pouch?
It depends on the pouch, but a label around 90 mm wide usually fits the flat front panel. Measure below the valve and leave a margin on each side.
Can the label go over the degassing valve?
No, the valve must stay clear so the coffee can release gas. We can add a cut-out to the label design if the valve sits in the middle of the panel.
Do you supply labels on rolls for an applicator?
Yes. Tell us the core size, the roll diameter your applicator accepts and the unwind direction, and we will wind the labels to suit.
Can I get a clear label that looks printed on the bag?
Yes, clear polypropylene with a white ink layer behind the colours gives a no-label look, especially on kraft or black bags. The white layer stops the bag colour showing through your logo. It costs a little more than paper and resists moisture better.
How long do 500 roast-origin labels take to arrive?
After you approve the free proof, printing takes 4 to 7 working days and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days. A 500-label run of several origins is treated as one job, so all the variants arrive together. Tell us if one origin is urgent and we sequence it first.
What if a tasting note is misspelt on the printed labels?
That is why we send a free proof first, so please check it carefully. If we print something that differs from the approved proof, report it within 10 days and we will reprint or refund.
How do I get a price for coffee labels?
Send the size, shape, material and quantity for each design. We will reply with a custom quote within one working day.
