Custom Cosmetic Boxes
Custom cosmetic boxes are the printed cartons that hold a serum bottle, a jar of moisturiser or a palette of eyeshadow on a shelf and in a customer's bathroom. We make them for beauty brands at every stage, from a first small batch of a hero product to a full range with matching cartons in several sizes.

The Carton Does More Than Protect
In beauty, the carton is often the first thing a customer touches. Before they try a texture or smell a fragrance, they pick up the box, feel its weight and finish, and read the claims and ingredients, which is why the cosmetic and beauty boxes range covers so many finishes. A carton that feels thin or looks rushed makes even an excellent formula seem cheap. One that feels considered, with crisp print and a satisfying open, prepares people to trust what is inside.
Cartons also do a lot of practical work. They protect glass bottles and pumps in transit, keep tamper evidence intact, carry legally required information that will not fit on a small bottle label, and give retailers a tidy, stackable unit. Online, they become the hero of product photos and unboxing videos.
For new brands, a well-made carton can also be the difference between a stockist saying yes or no. Buyers judge shelf readiness quickly, and consistent, properly sized cartons signal a brand that is ready to scale.
Common Styles for Beauty Products
Most skincare and makeup cartons are folding boxes made from a single sheet of board. The style depends on the product shape, how it will be displayed and how premium the brand wants to feel, from a slim lip gloss carton to a rigid gift set.
Rigid boxes, wrapped in printed or textured paper, are used for gift sets and high-end products where weight and a slow, lift-off lid add to the experience. Sleeve and drawer boxes create a reveal that suits palettes and sets.
If your product sells mainly online, the box may never sit on a shop shelf. In that case it is worth putting more into the inside print and the opening experience, and less into shelf-facing details such as hang tabs and display windows.
- Reverse tuck end cartons for bottles, tubes and jars
- Crash-lock base cartons for heavier glass jars
- Sleeve and tray boxes for palettes and sets
- Rigid lift-off lid boxes for gift and premium ranges
- Hang-tab cartons for lip products and small items on pegs

Sizing Custom Cosmetic Boxes to Bottles and Jars
Measure the product including its cap, pump or dropper, at the widest and tallest points. Pumps and droppers often add more height than people expect. Add a small allowance so the product slides in without forcing and the tuck flaps close flat; too much space and the bottle rattles, which feels cheap and risks damage.
If you have several products in a range, consider whether they can share a footprint with different heights. A 30 ml and 50 ml bottle of the same shape can often use the same width and depth, which makes the shelf look orderly and simplifies artwork. Jars usually need a squarer box than bottles, and an insert helps stop them turning inside.
Sample the product in its box before ordering in volume. We can supply a plain sample so you can check fit, close and feel before committing to print.
Board, Finishes and Embellishments
Most cosmetic cartons use a white folding boxboard with a smooth, bright surface that takes fine print and small type well. Heavier grades feel more premium and resist crushing; lighter grades suit samples and minis. Kraft board suits brands with a natural or minimalist identity and pairs well with a single dark ink or a foil.
Finishes make a big difference in beauty. Soft-touch lamination has a velvety feel that customers notice immediately. Matt lamination looks modern and calm; gloss makes colours bright and photographs well. Foil in gold, silver, rose gold or holographic adds light to a logo or product name. Embossing and debossing add depth that people feel with their fingertips, and spot gloss can pick out a pattern on a matt background.
Use embellishments with purpose. One standout element, such as a foiled logo or an embossed pattern, usually looks more refined than several competing effects.
Planning the Panels
Cosmetic cartons carry a lot of information. Plan the front for brand name, product name and one or two key benefits, the way our printed skincare cartons are usually laid out. Use the back and sides for directions, the full ingredient list, warnings, net contents, the responsible person's address and batch details. Leave a flat, plain area for the barcode and any batch code that will be applied later.
Keep type legible. Ingredient lists are often printed very small, so choose a clear typeface and strong contrast. If your range shares a layout, keep the information in the same place on every carton so customers know where to look.
Check that the regulatory text on the carton matches your product file. We print exactly what you supply, so it is worth having your safety assessor or adviser check the final artwork before you approve the proof.
Inserts and Unboxing
Inserts keep products steady and give the box a crafted feel. Card inserts with die-cut holes hold bottles upright; folded card platforms raise a jar so it sits just below the lid. For sets, a tray with separate cavities keeps each product in its place. Inside print on the carton, such as a pattern, a thank-you message or usage tips, adds a moment of delight when the box is opened.
Tamper-evident stickers or a tear strip reassure customers that the product has not been opened. For subscription and online sales, a branded mailer around the carton protects it in the post and keeps the retail box pristine.
Brands that sell refills sometimes design a simpler carton for the refill pouch or cartridge, using the same colours and layout but a lighter board and fewer finishes. It keeps the range recognisable while matching the lower price point of a refill.
Measure the Bottle With Its Pump or Dropper Fitted, Then Lock the Copy
Cosmetic cartons get delayed by two things: a measurement taken without the closure and copy that changes after the proof. So measure every bottle and jar with its pump, dropper or cap fitted, at the widest point and the full height, and add a few millimetres for the insert. Then have the ingredient list, claims and any required symbols checked by your safety adviser before artwork starts, because reflowing a back panel after the proof costs a round of checking.
Send the product measurements, the style you like, quantities per design and artwork or a brief, and a custom quote arrives by email within one working day; simple cartons start from £0.25 each with minimums quoted per job, so a launch run can be small and reordered as products prove themselves. A free proof shows the dieline, print and finishes. Cartons are printed and finished in 4 to 7 working days after approval and reach any UK mainland address by free tracked courier in 2 to 3 working days. Brands with a pump bottle in the range usually add lotion boxes in the same board to the order.

Cosmetic Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering cosmetic boxes.
Which box style suits a dropper bottle?
A reverse tuck end carton with a card insert is the usual choice. Measure the bottle with the dropper fitted, as it adds height.
Can I use one size of carton across my range?
Often yes, if products share a footprint. Bottles of the same shape in different volumes can use the same width and depth with different heights.
What finish feels most premium?
Soft-touch lamination is a favourite for its velvety feel. Combined with a foiled logo or emboss, it gives a high-end result.
Can you print the ingredient list?
We print exactly what you supply. Please have your safety adviser check the final artwork before approving the proof.
Can I get a plain sample to test fit?
Yes. A plain sample lets you check your bottle or jar fits and the flaps close before printing a full run.
Do you offer holographic foil?
Yes, along with gold, silver, rose gold and other foils. It works well on logos and product names.
Can a window show the shade of a lipstick or foundation?
Yes. A window panel on the front or side shows the product colour or texture, which helps makeup and tinted products sell on a shelf. We keep a frame of board around it so the carton stays stiff, and the proof shows exactly what the window reveals.
How do I make the box tamper evident?
Add a tear strip or a sticker seal across the tuck flap. Both show clearly if the box has been opened.
What do cosmetic cartons cost?
Simple cartons start from £0.25 each, depending on size, board, finishes and quantity. We send a custom quote by email within one working day.
Can I print a small run for a product launch?
Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job, which suits launches and limited editions.
Do you make rigid boxes for gift sets?
Yes. Rigid lift-off lid boxes with fitted trays are popular for gift sets and premium products.
