Custom Skincare Boxes
Skincare customers read the box carefully, so the carton has to look calm and carry a lot of information without feeling busy. We make custom skincare boxes for serums, moisturisers, cleansers and masks, sized to your containers and printed with the restraint that indie skincare labels are known for.

What Skincare Boxes Have to Do
A skincare box does three jobs at once. It protects a glass dropper bottle or a heavy jar on the way to the customer. It carries the legal information, including the full ingredient list, the batch code and the period after opening symbol. And it tells the shopper, in a second or two, what kind of brand you are: clinical, botanical, playful or luxurious.
Getting those three jobs to sit together is the real design challenge. A box that is all clean white space looks lovely until you try to fit forty ingredients on the back panel. A box that crams everything in looks cheap. The answer is usually a front panel kept almost empty, with the product name and one line of description, and side and back panels that hold the detail in a tidy, readable grid.
Because these boxes are so often photographed for social media, the front panel also needs to read clearly at phone-screen size. Colour cosmetics with the same shelf rules are boxed on our cosmetic boxes for makeup lines page.
Sizing Around Serums, Jars and Tubes
Skincare comes in a handful of familiar container shapes, and each needs a slightly different box. Dropper bottles are tall and narrow, with a rubber bulb that should not be squashed by the top flap. Jars are short and wide, often heavy, and benefit from a thicker board. Squeeze tubes are flat and long, and can sit in a slim carton or a tube-shaped sleeve.
Measure the container at its widest point, including the cap or pump, and add 1 to 2 mm on width and depth for an easy slide-in fit. Height should allow for the closure, plus a little room above it. A box that is too tight is slow to pack and can dent, while a box that is too loose lets the bottle rattle. If your range uses several bottle sizes, we can match the box design across them so the shelf looks like a family. Our method for measuring jars and pump bottles shows where the clearance goes.
- 30 ml dropper serums: tall, narrow cartons with headroom for the bulb
- 50 ml cream jars: square cartons on thicker board
- Cleanser pumps: taller cartons with an insert to stop the pump moving
- Sheet masks and sachets: flat sleeves or slim tuck boxes

Board Choices for a Clean Look
Most skincare cartons are made from a smooth white folding boxboard. It takes fine type and pale colours beautifully, which suits the soft palettes many skincare brands use. A slightly heavier board feels more premium and holds its shape better when customers open and close the box during a morning routine.
Uncoated or textured boards give a softer, natural feel and suit botanical brands. Kraft board works for a raw, apothecary style, though fine text and pale colours print less crisply on brown. For a luxury night cream, a rigid box with a lift-off lid makes a statement, but many indie brands find that a well-printed folding carton with a single special finish looks just as refined at a fraction of the cost.
Keeping the Ingredient Panel Readable
The ingredients list is usually the longest block of text on the box, and it has to be legible. We suggest a clean sans serif at no smaller than 6 pt, set in dark grey or black on a light background. Light grey text on white, or white text on pale pink, can look elegant on screen and disappear in print.
Plan the panels before you design. A common layout puts the product name and size on the front, directions and a short brand note on one side, ingredients on the back and the batch code, barcode and contact details on the remaining side. Leave a blank space on the base or a flap for batch codes if you print them yourself with a stamp or label.
We check text sizes and contrast on the free proof and flag anything likely to be hard to read. Brands with very long INCI lists sometimes move the list to ingredient labels for small cartons on the base.
Finishes Skincare Brands Actually Use
Skincare packaging tends to favour quiet finishes. A matt laminate gives a smooth, velvety surface that hides fingerprints. Soft-touch laminate goes further, with a feel almost like suede, and is popular for serums and treatment products. Spot gloss on the product name, or a blind emboss of the logo with no ink, adds interest without breaking the calm look.
Foil is used sparingly, often as a single fine line or a small logo in rose gold, silver or champagne. Window cut-outs are less common for skincare, because the container itself is usually plain, but a small window can work for colourful balms and oils.
Inside the lid, a short line about how to use the product, or a note from the founder, is a cheap way to make the unboxing feel personal. The two most popular finishes are shown side by side in our soft touch and matt compared guide.
Shipping Skincare Without Breakage
A good skincare carton protects the product on a shop shelf, but a parcel journey is rougher. Glass dropper bottles and heavy jars are the items most likely to break in the post, and leaking serum ruins every other item in the parcel. Planning the retail box with shipping in mind avoids most of those problems.
The simplest step is a snug fit. A bottle that cannot move inside its carton is much less likely to crack. For pumps and droppers, a card insert or neck holder keeps the closure away from the box walls. For online orders, the retail box then goes into a mailer box with a little paper fill, so the carton arrives unmarked and ready to be shown off.
If you sell gift sets with several products, a single box with a die-cut insert holding each container in its own pocket is tidier than several small cartons. We can design the insert and the outer box together so the set looks finished when the lid comes off.
Start With the Hero Product
A skincare range is boxed one product at a time, and the first should be the one that sells most, because its carton sets the structure and colours the rest will follow. Measure that container with its pump, dropper or lid fitted, at the widest point and full height, and tell us the carton style; a straight tuck end with a card insert suits most serums and jars. Prepare the panel text early, the ingredients in INCI order, the directions, the volume and the batch area, and keep it as plain text so we can set it at a readable size. The free proof shows every panel at actual size, which is where most brands discover the ingredient list needs a second column. A custom quote comes by email within one working day, minimums are low and quoted per job so a small run of each box is possible, and cartons are produced in 4–7 working days after approval with free tracked UK mainland delivery. When the range grows we keep the structure and colours consistent. Dropper bottles in particular are covered on our facial oil boxes for dropper bottles page.

Skincare Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering skincare boxes.
How much headroom does a dropper bottle need?
Allow a few millimetres above the rubber bulb so the top flap does not press on it. A squashed bulb can draw product up the pipette or cause leaks. We check the height against your bottle measurements before proofing.
Can the full ingredients list fit on a small serum box?
Usually, yes, if it runs across the back panel at around 6 pt in a clean font. For very long lists on very small boxes, we can use a side panel too or suggest a slightly larger carton.
Which board looks best for a minimal skincare brand?
A smooth white folding boxboard with a matt or soft-touch laminate is the most common choice. It prints pale colours and fine type cleanly and has a calm, premium feel.
Can you match the box colour to my bottle labels?
Yes. Send us the Pantone reference or a printed sample of your label, and we match the box colour as closely as the board allows. We show the colour on the proof and note any difference to expect.
Do I need an insert for a pump bottle?
It helps. A simple card insert stops the pump head rattling and keeps the bottle upright, which reduces leaks in transit. Droppers and jars usually fit snugly without one if the box is sized well.
Where can batch numbers be stamped on a serum carton?
We leave a clear, uncoated patch on the base or on an end flap where batch codes and expiry dates can be stamped or stickered after the cartons arrive. Lamination is kept off that patch so ink takes. The patch is marked on the proof.
Can you print the same design in several sizes?
Yes. Most skincare ranges use one design across serum, cream and cleanser boxes. We scale the layout to each size and send proofs together so you can check the range side by side.
Is kraft board suitable for skincare?
It suits brands with a natural or apothecary style. Pale colours and very fine text print less crisply on brown board, so we often use white ink or a bold single colour for the main design.
What is the minimum order for each box size?
Minimums are low and set per job. If you are launching several products, we can quote small runs of each so you can test the packaging before scaling up.
When would my skincare boxes arrive after I approve the proof?
Production takes four to seven working days, then free tracked delivery to the UK mainland takes two to three working days. We confirm the dispatch date when you approve the proof.
What if the colours or text come out wrong?
Tell us within ten days of delivery and send photos. If the boxes do not match the approved proof or arrive damaged, we reprint or refund them.
