Why Soft Tacos Need Their Own Wrap

Soft tacos are generous and messy by nature. Juices from slow-cooked meat, salsa, crema and lime run to the bottom of the tortilla, and a taco handed over on a paper plate leaks onto fingers within a minute. A greaseproof wrap folded around the base holds everything together, so the customer can walk, talk and eat without needing a stack of napkins.

For street food traders, speed matters too. A wrapped taco can be passed across a counter, stood in a tray or bagged for takeaway in seconds. Many stalls also wrap pairs or trios of tacos together, which keeps them warm and stops them falling over on the way to a table.

Wrapping also helps with heat. Tacos cool quickly once they leave the plancha, and a snug paper wrap traps a little warmth while a customer finds a seat or walks back to the office. For delivery and takeaway, wrapped tacos packed into a box or bag arrive in far better condition than loose ones.

Hygiene is part of the picture. A wrapped taco is handled by the paper rather than by fingers at the pass, which customers notice and appreciate at busy markets and festivals. Baskets served at the table are lined with the matching printed food basket liners.

Greaseproof Paper Options

The base material is greaseproof paper, made to resist oil and moisture so the sheet stays clean on the outside. White greaseproof shows printed colours brightly; unbleached brown greaseproof gives a rustic, market-stall look that suits many taquerias. Both are plain paper.

For very wet fillings, a heavier greaseproof or a paper with an additional barrier coating holds up longer. Food-contact grade greaseproof is available on request, and the exact paper is named on your custom quote.

A translucent greaseproof lets a little of the filling colour show through the print, which some traders prefer for open cone folds where the top of the taco stays visible. The paper weights are compared with plain greaseproof paper for hot food on its own page.

Sizing Sheets for Tacos

Taco sizes vary. Street-style tacos on small corn tortillas are often around 100 to 120 mm across, while flour tortillas for larger tacos can be 150 mm or more. The sheet needs to fold around the base and sides with enough paper to tuck or twist, but not so much that customers are unwrapping a parcel.

As a starting point, a square sheet around 250 mm suits a single small taco, and a sheet around 300 mm suits larger tacos or wrapping two together. Try folding a plain sheet around your actual taco and measure what works before deciding.

If you also sell burritos, quesadillas or tortas, consider a second, larger sheet size with the same artwork. Your packaging then matches across the menu and staff always know which sheet to grab.

Taco boats and trays are worth considering for dine-in customers. A sheet sized to line the tray and wrap over the tacos keeps everything neat on the table and makes clearing up quicker for your team. Our guide to measuring products for packaging covers sheet sizes against portion sizes.

Folding Methods Used on the Line

There is no single right fold, but most stalls use one of a few. The cone fold wraps the paper around the base of the taco and twists the bottom, leaving the top open for eating. The half wrap folds the sheet in half around the taco like a sleeve, open at both ends. The parcel fold wraps two or three tacos together for takeaway, tucking all the edges in.

Choose the fold first, then design the print so the logo lands where it will be seen. On a cone fold, the visible part is the outer side near the bottom. On a half wrap, it is the outer face. Your free proof can show the artwork position in relation to a typical fold if you tell us how your team wraps. Larger parcels for burritos use the bigger burrito wrapping paper in foil-lined sheets.

Printing Bold Street Food Branding

Greaseproof paper suits simple, bold designs printed in one or two colours. A repeating pattern of your logo, a playful illustration or a pattern inspired by Mexican tiles and papel picado looks great and shows your brand however the paper is folded. A single central logo can disappear into a fold, so all-over patterns are usually the better choice.

Use strong, saturated colours such as red, green, teal, orange and black, which stay vivid on white greaseproof. On brown paper, darker inks such as black, deep red or navy read best. Keep text minimal, perhaps your name and social handle, because the sheet is crumpled in use and long messages are not read.

Customers often photograph street food before they eat it. With a printed wrap, your pattern or handle is in the frame without you asking for it.

If your logo is complex, simplify it for paper: a bold icon or wordmark repeated across the sheet reads better than a detailed badge. One-colour and two-colour print on brown paper is compared in the print and finish options guide.

Practical Tips for Busy Service

Order sheets cut to size rather than on a roll if you serve fast; cut sheets can be stacked by the pass and grabbed with one hand. Keep them in a dry, covered spot away from steam from the grill. A sheet dispenser or a simple weighted board stops a stack blowing away at outdoor markets.

Many traders use the same paper as a liner for baskets and trays, which means fewer packaging items to stock.

Plan stock around your busiest days. A festival weekend can use far more sheets than an ordinary week, and running out halfway through service means plain paper or plates. Keeping a reserve box in the van avoids that.

If you trade from several pitches or trucks, use the same sheet sizes everywhere so staff can move between sites without relearning anything and stock can be shared easily. The guide to how custom pricing works explains why one sheet size across all pitches costs less.

Tell Us How Your Line Folds Before We Place the Logo

Taco paper is the one wrap where the fold decides where the print goes. A half wrap shows the outer face; a cone fold shows one corner; a full parcel of three tacos shows the centre of the sheet. Watch your line wrap a dozen orders, note which fold they use and which part of the sheet faces the customer, and send a photo of a wrapped taco with your artwork. The repeat is then placed so the logo lands where it is seen, and the free proof shows the artwork against that fold.

Send the sheet sizes, white or brown paper and the number of ink colours, and a custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with minimums low and quoted per job so a new truck does not buy a year of paper up front. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the proof and free tracked delivery to the UK mainland adds 2 to 3 working days; sheets that arrive misprinted or damaged are reprinted or refunded if reported within 10 days. Tacos sold in a box for delivery use the custom taco boxes with upright slots.

Taco Wrapping Paper Questions

What buyers ask before ordering taco wrapping paper.

What size sheet do I need for street tacos?

A square sheet around 250 mm suits a single small corn taco. Larger flour tacos or pairs suit about 300 mm. Fold a plain sheet around your taco to check.

Will juices soak through the paper?

Greaseproof paper resists oil and moisture well. For very wet fillings, a heavier greaseproof or barrier-coated paper lasts longer. We suggest the best option on your quote.

Should I choose white or brown greaseproof?

White keeps bright inks such as red, teal and orange vivid and suits a modern taqueria. Unbleached brown suits a market-stall look and reads best with black, deep red or navy, and the same artwork can be proofed on both before you decide.

Is a repeat pattern better than a single logo?

Usually yes. A single central logo often ends up inside the fold or crushed in the customer's hand, while an all-over repeat shows on whichever face of the wrap is outside.

Can the same paper line my baskets?

Yes, many traders use one printed sheet for wrapping and lining baskets or trays. It reduces the number of items you stock. A larger sheet suits liners.

Does paper wrapped straight around a hot taco need food-contact grade greaseproof?

Yes, as the filling and the tortilla sit directly on the sheet. Food-contact grade greaseproof is available on request and the paper is named on your custom quote so the specification is on record.

Can I order a burrito size with the same design?

Yes, a second sheet size with matching artwork keeps your packaging consistent. Each size appears on its own proof. The custom quote lists both.

Are sheets supplied cut or on a roll?

We supply cut sheets, which are faster to use at a busy pass. They stack neatly and can be grabbed with one hand. Tell us the sizes you need.

Which ink colours work best on greaseproof?

Bold, saturated colours such as red, green, orange and black work well on white. On brown paper, darker inks read best. One or two colours keep costs down.

How soon can a new food truck get printed taco paper?

We email a custom quote within one working day of your enquiry, then a free design proof. Production takes 4–7 working days after proof approval, then 2–3 working days for free tracked UK mainland delivery.
