Custom Wax Paper Bags
Custom wax paper bags hold a buttery croissant, a toasted sandwich or a warm cookie without grease soaking through to the customer's hands. Printed with your name, they turn a quick counter sale into a small advert that leaves the shop and gets carried down the street.

What Makes Wax Paper Different
Wax paper is a thin paper given a light wax coating on one or both sides. The coating fills the surface so fats and moisture sit on top rather than wicking into the fibres. That is why a wax bag still looks clean after holding a sausage roll for ten minutes, while a plain paper bag would show dark spots almost straight away.
The coating also gives the bag a slight translucency and a soft sheen. Many bakeries like that look because it hints at what is inside without the cost of a window. It feels traditional, which suits artisan bread shops and old-style delis as much as modern coffee chains.
Wax paper is not designed for the oven or microwave, so think of these bags as serving and carrying packaging rather than cooking packaging.
Because the coating is light, the paper stays flexible and folds cleanly. Staff can twist the top of a bag closed or fold it over once, and it holds that shape without a sticker or clip, which saves time at a busy till. Many customers order these alongside our printed greaseproof paper, printed in the same colours.
Matching the Bag to the Bake
Each product on a bakery counter has a natural bag. Croissants and pain au chocolat need a flat bag with enough length to avoid squashing the ends, while cakes go in a printed bakery box. A single cookie or brownie fits a small square bag that slips into a pocket. Toasties and filled rolls need a deeper bag, sometimes with a side gusset, so the filling does not press against the paper and ooze out of the top.
If you sell a mix of items, two or three bag sizes usually cover the whole counter. Staff learn quickly which size goes with which product, and you avoid wasting a large bag on a small biscuit.
For sandwiches served warm from a press, a bag open at one end lets steam escape so the bread stays crisp instead of turning soft in the paper.

Printing on a Waxed Surface
Printing is applied before or between coating stages so the ink sits securely and does not rub off on fingers. Designs work best when they are bold and simple: a logo, a short strapline and perhaps a pattern that repeats across the bag so it looks good whichever way it is folded; the print and finish options compared page shows one and two colour print on coated paper.
One or two colours are the usual choice. They print crisply on wax paper and keep the cost per bag sensible for an item used in large numbers. Black, deep green and burgundy look especially smart on white or natural brown paper.
Full bleed coverage is possible but rarely necessary. A repeating motif with plenty of open paper reads as confident and lets the slight sheen of the wax show through.
Think about where the logo lands once the bag is filled and folded. On a pastry bag the top third is often folded over, so place the main mark in the middle where it stays visible in the customer’s hand and in any photo they take of their order.
White, Natural Brown or Coloured Paper
Bleached white wax paper gives a clean background for coloured logos and suits cafés with a bright, modern look. Natural brown paper has a warm, rustic feel that fits sourdough bakeries, farm shops and street food stalls, the same tone as our kraft SOS paper bags.
Some businesses choose a coloured base paper to match their branding, printing only a single colour logo on top. It is an efficient way to make a bag instantly recognisable without paying for full coverage print.
If your bags will come into direct contact with food, ask for food-contact grade paper and inks on your custom quote. We will confirm what is available for your chosen paper before you approve the proof.
Behind the Counter: Handling and Storage
Wax paper bags are light and come packed flat in bundles, so a few thousand fit under a typical counter. Keep them away from heat sources such as ovens and coffee machines, because the wax can soften and make bags stick together, a rule that also applies to glassine paper sheets.
A simple bag dispenser or a clip on the counter edge speeds up service. Staff can pull a bag with one hand while holding tongs in the other, which matters during a morning rush.
Rotate stock so older bundles are used first, and store them in their original cartons to keep the print clean and the paper flat.
Work out your weekly usage for each size before reordering. Running out of your printed bags mid-week and falling back on plain ones undoes the consistency you paid for, so most shops reorder when they reach about a fortnight of remaining stock.
Bakeries, Delis and Who Else Uses Them
Independent bakeries are the obvious buyers, using printed wax bags for pastries, cookies and slices of cake. Delicatessens use larger bags for cured meats, cheeses and filled baguettes, with printed deli paper for the interleaving. Coffee shops wrap muffins and banana bread, and sandwich bars bag toasted paninis for customers on the move.
Market traders like wax bags because they hold up in light rain better than plain paper. Fudge makers, doughnut stands and pick and mix counters use small printed bags to give sweets a neat, branded finish, and caterers hand them out at events where guests eat while standing.
Even businesses that mainly use boxes keep wax bags for single items, because a box for one cookie feels excessive and a bag keeps the cost of each small sale down.
List Your Counter Items With Rough Sizes and Let Three Bags Cover Them
Bakeries rarely need a bag per product. Write down everything that leaves the counter in a bag, a croissant, a cookie, a slice of cake, a filled baguette, with a rough length and width for each, and group them: small treats in a square pocket, pastries in a flat bag, filled and multiple items in a gusseted bag. Three sizes usually cover the list and keep reordering simple. Say which items are hot or oily, because a panini sleeve wants an open end for steam and a greasy bake may want the double-sided coating, and whether anything sits directly on the paper, since food-contact grade paper is available on request.
Send the sizes, the paper colour, your logo and a rough quantity per size, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day, from £0.25 for many bag sizes with low minimums quoted per job. A free design proof shows the print position on each bag. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the flat bundles reach UK mainland addresses on free tracked delivery in 2 to 3 working days. Bakeries that wrap sandwiches too usually add printed sandwich wrapping paper in the same design.

Wax Paper Bags Questions
What buyers ask before ordering wax paper bags.
Will grease from pastries show through the bag?
Wax paper resists grease far better than plain paper, so butter and oil mostly stay on the inner surface. Very oily items held for a long time may eventually mark, so serve them promptly.
Can I put a hot toastie straight into a wax bag?
Yes, for serving and carrying. An open-end sleeve lets steam escape so the bread stays crisp. Wax bags are not meant for ovens or microwaves.
How many bag sizes does a typical bakery need?
Two or three usually cover the counter: a small pocket for single treats, a flat bag for pastries and a larger or gusseted bag for filled items and multiples. Send a list of your counter items and we suggest the compact set.
Does the print rub off on customers' hands?
No. The ink is applied so it sits securely on the paper and does not transfer with normal handling, even when the bag is held for a while.
White or brown paper: which is better for a sourdough bakery?
Natural brown usually suits a sourdough or rustic bakery because it matches the look of crusty loaves. White works better when your logo uses bright colours that need a clean background.
Can a warm pastry sit directly on the waxed paper?
Food-contact grade paper is available on request. Mention it when you ask for your custom quote and we confirm the options for your chosen paper and inks.
How should I store wax bags in a warm kitchen?
Keep them in their cartons away from ovens, grills and coffee machines. Heat can soften the coating and cause bags to stick together.
Can I order different sizes with the same design?
Yes. We adapt one artwork to each size so the logo sits in proportion, and you approve a free proof for every size before printing starts.
How fast can new bags reach my shop?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the proof, and free tracked delivery to the UK mainland normally takes a further 2 to 3 working days. Reorders use the approved artwork, so only a quantity is needed.
Do wax bags work for market stalls outdoors?
They cope with light drizzle better than uncoated paper bags, which is why many market traders use them. In heavy rain any paper bag benefits from a carrier.
Can you print a repeating pattern instead of a single logo?
Yes. A repeat pattern looks tidy however the bag is folded or held, and it suits small bags where a single logo might end up hidden in a fold.
