Custom Luxury Invitation Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom luxury invitation boxes turn an invitation into something guests keep, a rigid box that opens to reveal the card, the details and perhaps a small gift tucked beside them. Stationers and planners use them for weddings, milestone parties and high-end corporate launches where an envelope alone would feel too slight.

When an Envelope Is Not Enough

Most invitations are opened, read and pinned to a fridge. A boxed invitation is treated differently. It sits on a shelf, it gets shown to friends and it often survives long after the event as a keepsake. For couples planning a destination wedding, hosts of a landmark birthday or brands launching a product to a guest list of buyers and press, that extra weight is the whole point.

A box also gives room for more than one card. Guests can receive the main invitation, a separate details card with travel and accommodation notes, an RSVP card with its own envelope and a small favour, all arranged in a fitted insert so nothing slides about. Opening it becomes a small event in itself, which sets the tone for what follows. The cards themselves can be printed with us as wedding invitations printed to match.

Box Styles Stationers Choose

Rigid boxes are wrapped greyboard, so they feel solid in the hand and do not flex like folding cartons. Several constructions work well for invitations.

Each of these can be lined inside with a contrasting paper, which is a detail guests notice the moment the lid comes off. Suites with several enclosures often use the book style boxes for suites with a magnetic flap.

  • Lift-off lid boxes, the classic choice, with a shallow base and a lid that sits over it.
  • Magnetic flap boxes that open like a book and close with a hidden magnet, giving a satisfying click.
  • Drawer boxes with a sliding tray and a ribbon pull, which feel playful and suit evening parties.
  • Book-style boxes with a spine that can carry names or initials when the box sits on a shelf.
  • Slim folio boxes for a single heavy card, sized close to a standard invitation.

Sizing Around Your Stationery

Start with the stationery, not the box. Measure the largest card in the set and its thickness, then add any extras that will go inside. A box that fits the card closely looks made for it; a box with too much space makes the card look lost. We usually allow a few millimetres around the card so it lifts out easily with a ribbon tab.

Depth is the part that is easy to forget. A single card needs a shallow box, but adding a favour, a pressed flower or a small bottle needs a deeper base and a fitted insert to hold each item. If you are unsure, send photos and measurements of everything that will go in and we will suggest a size and insert layout on the proof.

If you plan to address boxes by hand, leave a plain area on the lid or on the outer mailer. A smooth matt wrap takes ink from a calligraphy pen far better than a laminated or metallic surface, which can smudge. Our method for measuring a stationery suite covers envelopes and ribbons.

Wraps, Foils and Finishing Touches

The wrap paper sets the character of the box. Smooth matt papers suit modern minimal invitations; textured linen and felt papers feel classic; pearlescent and metallic papers catch the light. Printing can cover the whole wrap or stay restrained, perhaps a monogram on the lid and nothing else.

Foil blocking in gold, rose gold, silver or copper is the most popular finishing touch, often combined with blind embossing for a raised monogram. Ribbon closures, satin pull tabs and a printed inner lid with a short message all add to the moment of opening. A matching vellum wrap or belly band around the box can carry the guest name, which saves addressing the box itself.

Keep the design consistent with the cards inside. Matching the box colour to the envelope liner or the card edge paint makes the whole set feel considered, and a monogram used on the lid can be repeated small on the details card.

Inserts That Hold Everything in Place

An insert turns a box into a presentation. Card inserts with cut slots hold a stack of cards upright like files; foam or board cavities hold a favour or a small bottle; a raised platform lifts the main card so it is the first thing seen. Covered inserts wrapped in the same paper as the box look the most finished.

Think about the order guests should see things. The invitation usually goes on top, details and RSVP underneath and the favour in its own cavity to one side. A ribbon lift under the cards helps guests remove them without bending the corners. A favour beside the card can sit in a velvet insert for a favour cut to its shape.

Posting and Hand Delivery

Rigid boxes are robust, but they still need protection in the post. We can supply plain or printed outer mailers sized to fit, so each invitation box travels inside its own shipper and arrives unscuffed. For hand delivery at a venue or office, a printed belly band or ribbon with a name tag is often enough.

Check postage costs before finalising the size. A box only slightly too deep can move into a more expensive postal band, so ask us to keep the outer dimensions within the band you are aiming for.

For hand-delivered boxes at a corporate event, a small printed card tucked under the ribbon with the recipient name and table or session number saves a separate handout and keeps the presentation tidy. Boxes sent by courier travel inside our outer boxes for posting.

Send Us the Card Dieline Before the Box Is Drawn

Invitation boxes are built to the stationery, so the first thing we need is the finished size of the card and every enclosure: the details card, the RSVP, the envelope, a ribbon or a wax seal. Stationers can send their dielines and we draw the box to them; planners can post a mock-up. Count the pieces, because a suite of five cards needs a deeper tray than a single card, and say if a small favour goes in beside them. Decide the style, a lift-off lid, a magnetic flap or a book-style box, and the wrap and foil, and ask for a sample box if a couple needs to see the finish before the full run. Artwork is a monogram or a motif as a vector file, and the free proof shows the wrap, the foil and the insert layout together. A custom quote comes by email within one working day, minimums are quoted per job so an intimate wedding is fine, and boxes are made in 4 to 7 working days after approval with free tracked UK mainland delivery. A fabric-wrapped version is on our silk invitation boxes for a fabric wrap page.

Luxury Invitation Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering luxury invitation boxes.

Can the box be made to fit stationery I am printing elsewhere?

Yes. Send us the card sizes and thickness, or your dielines, and we will size the box and insert to fit. We can also match colours to your printer's reference.

Can each box carry a guest's name?

Yes. A printed belly band, vellum wrap or name tag on the ribbon can carry each guest name. We print these individually from a list you send.

Which closure feels most luxurious?

Magnetic flap boxes give a satisfying close and open like a book. Lift-off lids feel classic, and drawer boxes with a ribbon pull feel playful. We can show each on the proof.

Can I include a small favour with the invitation?

Yes. A fitted insert with a cavity can hold a small bottle, a candle, a pressed flower or sweets beside the cards. Send the favour size so we can shape the cavity.

Will the boxes survive posting?

Rigid boxes are strong, but we recommend an outer mailer to protect the wrap from scuffs. We can supply plain or printed mailers sized to fit.

Can I see a sample before the full order?

Planners and stationers can request a sample box before committing the run. It is the best way to judge paper texture and foil colour in person.

Which foil colours suit an invitation box?

Gold, rose gold, silver and copper are the most popular, with other metallic and matt colours on request. Rose gold on blush or ivory and gold on navy or forest green are the pairings stationers ask for most. Foil can be combined with embossing for a raised monogram.

How do I keep postage costs down?

Keep the outer dimensions and weight within your chosen postal band. Tell us the band you are aiming for and we will size the box and mailer to fit it.

Can the inside of an invitation box lid carry a monogram?

Yes, a monogram, a short message or a pattern on the inner lid is often the detail guests remember. It is printed or foiled on the lining paper before the box is assembled. It is priced as an option on the quote.

How far ahead should invitation boxes be ordered?

Allow for proofing and sampling, 4 to 7 working days of production after approval and delivery time, plus time to assemble and post. Starting early leaves room for any design changes.

Are smaller quantities possible for an intimate wedding?

Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so small guest lists are welcome. Tell us the number of guests when you request a custom quote.
