The Problem With Wrapping a Shawarma in Foil Alone

Foil and greaseproof paper keep the heat in, but they do nothing to stop a shawarma bending, splitting or leaking garlic sauce down someone's sleeve. Once a wrap is in a carrier bag with chips and drinks on top, it is easily squashed. A rigid card holder solves this by giving the wrap a spine. The customer can hold the box like a handle, peel back the paper as they eat, and put it down on a table without the fillings sliding out.

A printed shawarma box also does something foil cannot: it tells people where the food came from. Customers photograph good-looking street food, and the box is in the picture. Delivery orders arrive looking like they came from a proper restaurant rather than a hurried counter, which matters when customers decide whether to order from you again through the app. A plain foil parcel arriving in a delivery bag gives them nothing to remember; a printed box with your name and number on it does.

For most shops the box is part of a pair. The shawarma is still wrapped in paper for grease and heat, and the box sits around that paper. That combination keeps the bread soft, holds the shape and keeps the outer card clean. p2 The inner wrap is covered on our printed wrapping paper for shawarma page.

Formats That Suit Different Menus

The classic choice is a long, narrow box with an open top or a tuck lid, sized so the wrap stands upright with the top third visible. It works for walk-in customers who eat straight away. For delivery, a fully closed long box with a tuck flap keeps the heat in and stops the wrap rolling around in the bag.

Open-ended sleeves are the lightest option: a tube of printed card that slides over the paper-wrapped shawarma. They cost less and suit busy lunchtime counters. Shops that sell shawarma plates with rice, salad and pickles as well as wraps usually add a wider clamshell or tray box, printed in the same design so the whole order looks matched. p1 Mexican grills use the same long format for our taco and burrito boxes.

Sizing Custom Shawarma Boxes to Your Wraps

Wrap sizes vary a lot between shops. A wrap made with a large saj bread is long and slim, while a wrap rolled from a thicker flatbread is shorter and wider. The best way to size the box is to make a normal shawarma, wrap it as you would for a customer, and measure its length and its thickest diameter. Add a few millimetres all round so staff can drop it in quickly without tearing the paper.

If you serve more than one size, such as a regular and a large, consider two box heights with the same width. Staff can grab the right one at a glance and you only need one design. A box that is too short lets the wrap topple, and a box that is too long hides the food, so it is worth testing a sample before committing to a full run.

For twin boxes and platter boxes, measure the container or the space the food takes on the plate, then tell us whether sauce pots need to fit inside. We can add a small cut-out or a step in the insert so pots sit flat. p2 The guide to measuring a product for a box covers soft items that change shape.

Board That Copes With Heat and Sauce

Shawarma is hot, oily and often dressed with garlic sauce, tahini or chilli. Plain uncoated board soon shows grease spots, so we recommend a board with a grease-resistant coating on the inside. Kraft board with a light coating gives a rustic, street-food look, while white board shows bright colours and photos more clearly. Food-contact grade board is available on request, and we will confirm the specification with your quote.

Thickness matters too. A sleeve can be made from lighter board because the paper wrapping takes most of the moisture, but a long box that is held upright needs enough stiffness that it does not fold when gripped in the middle. For delivery boxes, a small vent hole near the top lets steam escape so the bread does not go soggy on the journey.

If your kitchen uses a hot holding cabinet, let us know. Boxes waiting in warm, steamy conditions need a slightly heavier board so they do not soften and lose their shape before the wrap goes in. p2 Board grades for hot food are compared on the guide to board and card types.

Artwork for a Kebab House or Grill

Good shawarma packaging is bold and simple. Your shop name in large letters, your phone number or ordering link, and perhaps a short line about what makes your marinade or bread special are usually enough. Arabic and English lettering together work well and look authentic when set carefully, and we will check the Arabic text on your proof so letters join correctly.

Repeated patterns, such as geometric tile designs or a simple line drawing of the grill, cover the box without needing photography. If you sell chicken, lamb and mixed wraps, a small printed tick box on the side lets staff mark the filling, which saves mix-ups on large orders. p1 The same pattern can run across printed takeaway paper bags so the whole order matches.

Who Uses Shawarma Packaging

Our customers include kebab houses, Lebanese and Syrian grills, Turkish restaurants, street food stalls, market traders and dark kitchens that only sell through delivery apps. Caterers serving shawarma at events order sleeves in bulk, and some takeaways use the same long box for falafel wraps, gyros and burritos.

Food trucks often prefer sleeves because they take up less storage space. Restaurants with a strong delivery trade lean towards closed boxes that travel better. Many shops start with one format and add the second once they see how customers use it. Ordering both in the same design keeps the look consistent whichever one leaves the counter. p1 Dark kitchens serving on apps often add our printed food boxes for rice plates for the platter orders.

Roll a Normal Wrap and Measure It at the Fattest Point

Shawarma boxes are sized from your own wrap, not from a chart, because a saj bread rolls long and slim while a thick flatbread rolls short and fat. Make one as you would for a customer, wrapped in its paper, then measure the length and the diameter at the fattest point. Add 5 mm each way so staff can drop it in without tearing the paper. For a regular and a large, give both and we keep one width with two heights.

Say how much of your trade is delivery, because that decides between an open sleeve for the counter and a closed box with a vent for the bag. Send the shop name, the phone number and any Arabic text as a file. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 a sleeve, with the minimum set per job.

The free proof shows the box flat with the vents clear of the logo and the Arabic checked for joined letters. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the flat boxes reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Grills that serve chips add fold-flat boxes for fries in the same print.

Shawarma Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering shawarma boxes.

Should the shawarma still be wrapped in paper inside the box?

Yes, we recommend keeping your usual greaseproof or foil wrap. The paper handles sauce and heat while the box holds the shape and carries your branding. It also keeps the outer card clean for longer.

Will garlic sauce soak through the board?

A grease-resistant lining on the inside of the board slows oil and sauce soaking in. Combined with your usual wrapping paper, the outside stays presentable for the time it takes to eat or deliver the food.

Can the box stand upright on a table?

Yes, the long box has a flat square base so the wrap can stand while the customer eats. Make sure the base is wide enough for your thickest wrap, and we will check the proportions on the proof.

Can you print Arabic text on shawarma boxes?

Yes, we print Arabic alongside English. Send us the text as a file rather than retyping it so the letter forms join correctly, and we will check it carefully on your proof.

Is a sleeve or a box better for delivery orders?

A closed box with a tuck lid is better for delivery because it keeps heat in and stops the wrap rolling around. Sleeves are quicker for counter service where people eat straight away.

Can one box size fit regular and large wraps?

Sometimes, if the sizes are close. If your large wraps are noticeably longer, two heights with the same width works better, and both can share one design.

Do you make matching platter boxes?

Yes, clamshell platter boxes for shawarma plates can be printed in the same design. Tell us the plate contents and whether sauce pots go inside so we size them properly.

Can I add steam holes to stop the bread going soggy?

Yes, small vent holes near the top of a closed box let steam out on the way to the customer. We place them away from the main logo so the artwork stays intact.

Can these boxes be used for falafel and burritos too?

Yes, the long upright box suits most rolled wraps. If you sell several wrap types, a neutral design with a printed tick box for the filling lets one box serve the whole menu.

What is the fastest route to getting shawarma boxes printed?

Send your wrap measurements and logo, approve the free proof quickly, and production takes 4–7 working days. Free tracked delivery then reaches UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days.

Do shawarma boxes and sleeves arrive flat?

Yes. Long boxes arrive flat and fold up in a few seconds, and sleeves open into a tube with one push, so a week of stock sits in a single bundle behind the counter. Keep them away from the hot holding cabinet so the board stays stiff.
