Custom Mylar Film Rolls
Mylar film rolls are polyester film wound on a core, supplied clear, metallised or matt and slit to the width your machine or workbench needs. We supply plain and printed rolls for converters, crafters and makers who need a tough, stable film rather than a finished bag.

What Polyester Film Is Good At
Mylar is the common name for biaxially oriented polyester film. It is made by stretching the film in two directions as it cools, which gives it unusual strength for its thickness, excellent dimensional stability and a smooth, glassy surface. It does not stretch out of shape the way polythene does, it resists tearing once it is under tension, and it copes with a wide range of temperatures.
Those properties make it useful across many trades. Converters laminate it to paper or foil to make barrier bags and lids. Sign makers and screen printers use it for stencils and overlays. Crafters cut it for shaker cards, die-cut windows and reusable templates. Model makers, framers and archivists use clear film as a protective layer, and metallised film turns up in insulation linings, reflective panels and decorative wraps.
Buying film on a roll, rather than in cut sheets, lets you cut exactly the length you need and feed it straight into laminators, slitters and packaging lines. The same print files can be reused for stretch wrap film if you want a matching range.
Types of Mylar Film Rolls
We supply several film types, each with its own look and handling. Tell us what you are making and we will suggest the right one.
Thickness is measured in microns. Thin films around twelve microns are flexible and used mainly for laminating. Mid-range films between fifty and one hundred microns are stiff enough for stencils and windows. Thicker films are rigid, almost like a thin sheet of plastic, and suit templates and guards.
Clear film has excellent transparency, which is why it is used for windows in cartons and display covers. Matt film diffuses light and takes pencil and ink, which is why drafting and stencil work favour it. Metallised film reflects light and heat and blocks moisture well, so it is used as a barrier layer and for reflective surfaces. If you are unsure, order a short sample length of two types and test them in your own process before committing to full rolls. Finished pouches made from the same laminates are on our mylar bags made from the same film page.

Widths, Lengths and Cores
Rolls are slit to the width you specify, from narrow tapes for edging and banding to wide rolls for laminating machines. Length depends on thickness, since a thick film makes a bulky roll very quickly. Tell us the maximum roll diameter your machine or dispenser accepts and we will wind to suit.
Core size matters for anyone feeding film into equipment. The most common internal diameters are around twenty-five and seventy-six millimetres, but we can wind onto other cores if your machine needs them. For hand use, a smaller roll on a narrow core is easier to manage on a workbench and fits in a standard dispenser.
If you need several widths, we can slit them from the same parent roll so the film properties match exactly across your stock.
Mention the end use when you order, because a roll for a laminator, a slitter and a hand dispenser may each need a different winding tension to feed smoothly. Labellers that take the same cores are covered on our roll labels on the same cores page.
Printed Mylar Film Rolls for Converters
Packaging converters and small brands who make their own pouches, sachets or lidding sometimes need the film printed before it is laminated or sealed. We print a repeating design along the roll, with the repeat length set to match your finished pack, so every bag or lid carries a full logo. Reverse printing on clear film, where the ink sits underneath the surface and is protected once laminated, is common for food and cosmetics.
Registration marks, or eye marks, can be added at each repeat so automatic machines know where to cut. Share your machine's requirements for eye mark size and position with your artwork and we will place them correctly.
Plain film can also be supplied with a printable treated surface if you plan to print it yourself. Our print on film compared guide shows how inks sit on clear and metallised surfaces.
Handling and Storing Film
Polyester film is tough but its surface scratches if rolls are dragged or stacked without protection. Keep rolls in their wrapping until use, store them on their ends or on a rod through the core, and avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or next to heaters. Static can build up as film unwinds, attracting dust, so a clean, slightly humid workspace helps, as does an anti-static brush for precision work.
When cutting by hand, a sharp rotary cutter or craft knife against a steel rule gives the cleanest edge. Blunt blades can start small tears at the edge which then run under tension.
For machine feeding, check that the roll is wound in the direction your equipment expects. Film can be wound with the treated or printed side facing in or out, and getting it the wrong way round means rewinding before use. Note this on your order, along with any splice limits your line can tolerate, and we will wind accordingly. Labelling each roll with its width, thickness and length makes stock checks faster in a busy workshop. The same cool, dry storage applies to our branded tissue paper stored the same way.
Who Buys Film on a Roll
Packaging converters making bags, sachets and lidding are the largest group. Screen printers, sign makers and stencil cutters use matt film. Crafters and card makers buy clear and coloured metallised film for windows and decorative details. Framers, archivists and collectors use clear film as a protective layer for prints and documents. Theatre, events and display companies buy metallised film for reflective backdrops and props.
Small food and cosmetics brands sometimes buy printed film to run on their own sachet machine instead of buying finished bags, which gives them more control over batch sizes. Converters sealing cartons after wrapping use our tear strip tape for sealing.
Match the Core and the Width to Your Machine
Film rolls are specified by the machine that unwinds them, so before you order, check three things on your laminator, wrapper or cutter: the core diameter it takes, the maximum roll diameter it will hold and the web width it runs. Those figures, with the film type, clear, metallised or matt, and the thickness, are the whole brief for plain film. For printed film, add the repeat length and whether eye marks are needed for a wrapping machine, and send the artwork as a vector file; the free proof shows the repeat and the eye mark positions. Small workshops and crafters can order a few rolls, because minimums are low and quoted per job. A custom quote comes by email within one working day, plain film is dispatched sooner than printed film, and printed rolls run 4–7 working days after approval. Delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses, with rolls packed on end in cartons. Tape, tissue and the rest of the packing bench are listed with our other box extras we supply.

Mylar Film Rolls Questions
What buyers ask before ordering mylar film rolls.
What thickness of mylar film do I need for stencils?
Matt film of around one hundred microns is a popular choice for stencils. It is stiff enough to hold its shape and takes pencil marks.
Can you slit film to a custom width?
Yes. Tell us the width you need and we will slit rolls to suit, including narrow tapes.
Which core size will fit my laminator?
Check your machine manual for the core diameter and maximum roll size. We wind to match.
Can you print a logo along the roll?
Yes. We print a repeating design with the repeat length set to your finished pack size.
What are eye marks?
Small printed blocks at each repeat that tell automatic machines where to cut. We place them to your machine's requirements.
Is the film heat-sealable?
Plain polyester is not heat-sealable on its own. We supply coated film with a sealable layer for converters making bags and lids.
Why does film attract dust as it unwinds?
Static builds up on polyester as it unrolls. A clean workspace and an anti-static brush help.
Can I buy small rolls for crafting?
Yes. Narrow craft rolls on small cores suit hand use and standard dispensers.
How should I store rolls?
Keep them wrapped, stored on end or on a rod through the core, away from sunlight and heat. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of rolls lying flat.
Can plain film be sent sooner than printed film?
Plain film skips the artwork stage, so there is no proof to approve, but both are produced within 4–7 working days of confirmation. Free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses then takes 2–3 working days.
What if a roll arrives damaged?
Report it within 10 days of delivery and we will replace or refund the affected rolls. Keep the roll and its wrapping until the claim is settled.
