Custom Luxury Paper Bags
Custom luxury paper bags are heavyweight laminated carriers with rope or ribbon handles, a reinforced base and a printed or foiled logo that customers are happy to be seen carrying. Boutiques, jewellers, salons and high-end gift shops use them to finish a purchase the way the shop itself feels.

The Last Thing a Customer Touches
In a boutique, the bag is the final part of the experience. The customer has chosen something, been served well and paid, and the bag is what they walk out with. A thin bag with twisted paper handles that cut into the fingers undoes a lot of good work. A firm bag with soft rope handles, a smooth matt surface and a crisp logo continues it all the way home.
Luxury bags also travel. They are carried through shopping streets, into cafés and onto trains, and they are often reused for weeks afterwards to carry lunch, gym kit or gifts. Every outing is your logo in front of new people, which makes a well-made bag one of the more useful pieces of marketing a small shop can buy.
The difference between a standard paper bag and a luxury one is mostly in the details: the weight of the paper, the lamination, the turned-over top, the board in the base and the handles. Each one adds a little cost and a lot of feel. Candle shops often use the smaller square version on the candle bags with a flat base page.
Paper, Lamination and Structure
Luxury bags are made from heavy art paper or board, laminated on the outside with matt, gloss or soft-touch film. The lamination makes the bag stiffer, protects the print from scuffs and rain, and gives that smooth surface people associate with designer shops.
Inside, a card insert reinforces the base so the bag stands up on its own and keeps its shape when loaded. A second strip of card behind the turned-over top edge supports the handles, so they do not pull through the paper when the bag is carried with something heavy inside.
For brands that prefer a natural look, uncoated textured papers in deep colours can be used instead of lamination. They feel softer and more crafted, though they mark more easily in wet weather.
- Matt laminated art paper for a calm, modern look
- Gloss laminated paper for bold colours and shine
- Soft-touch laminate for a velvety feel
- Uncoated textured paper in deep colours
- Kraft paper with a premium finish for natural brands

Handles and Closures
The handle is what the customer holds, so it has a big influence on how the bag feels. Cotton rope handles are soft and strong. Polypropylene rope comes in more colours and resists water. Satin or grosgrain ribbon handles look elegant for jewellery and lingerie. Die-cut handles cut into the bag itself suit smaller, lighter bags.
Handles can be knotted through eyelets for a classic look, or glued inside the top fold for a cleaner outside. Metal eyelets around the handle holes add a premium finish and stop the paper tearing.
Closures help protect the contents. A ribbon tie threaded through the top, a magnetic flap or a simple branded sticker across the opening keeps the bag shut and adds a little ceremony when it is opened.
Handle length matters more than people expect. Short handles suit bags carried in the hand, while longer handles let the bag hang from a shoulder, which customers appreciate when they are carrying several bags. The handle types are compared in our guide to choosing a custom box style, which covers bags too.
Printing and Finishing Custom Luxury Paper Bags
Most luxury bags carry very little print. A single logo, foil stamped in gold, silver, rose gold or a coloured foil, often says more than a full design. On a dark matt bag, foil catches the light beautifully. On a white bag, a single dark colour or a blind emboss gives a refined, quiet look.
Full colour designs suit fashion brands with a strong pattern or limited collection. Printing inside the top fold, or on the gusset, adds a surprise detail without crowding the front. Spot gloss on a matt bag lets a pattern appear only when light hits it.
Pick the bag colour first, then the foil. Black and navy suit gold and silver; cream and blush suit rose gold; white suits almost anything. Foil shades on dark and pale papers are compared in the print and finish options guide.
Sizing a Bag Range
Most shops need three or four sizes. A small bag for jewellery, cosmetics and accessories; a medium bag for shoes, folded clothing and gift boxes; a large bag for coats, bedding or several items; and sometimes a wine bottle bag or a narrow bag for perfumes.
Measure the items you sell most and the boxes they come in. The gusset, the side depth of the bag, should be wide enough for a shoe box or gift box to sit flat. A bag that is too narrow makes boxes tilt and handles strain, which spoils the look.
Keep the design consistent across sizes but scale the logo so it looks balanced on each.
Think about stock levels too. The medium size usually sells through fastest, so order more of it than the others, and keep a small reserve of the large size for busy periods when customers buy several items at once.
If space behind the counter is tight, ask about bags that fold flat with a collapsible base, so a full box of stock takes up little more room than a pile of magazines. Our guide to measuring a product for packaging covers gusset and height allowances for bags.
Who Orders Luxury Bags
Fashion boutiques, jewellers and watch shops, beauty salons and spas, perfume and cosmetics counters, chocolate shops, wine merchants, galleries and gift shops all use them. Event organisers and corporate teams order them for conference gifts and VIP goody bags. Bridal shops and wedding planners use them for bridesmaid gifts and favours.
Online boutiques order them as well. Placing a folded luxury bag inside a shipping box gives remote customers the same feeling as walking out of the shop, and many will use the bag to wrap a gift for someone else, which introduces your brand to another person.
Hotels and private members' clubs use smaller luxury bags for amenities, room gifts and shop purchases, matching the bag to their interiors. Food halls in the same group use the printed bread bags for bakery counters alongside the luxury carrier.
Decide the Handle Before the Paper
On a luxury bag the handle sets the budget and the feel, so choose it first. Rope handles knotted through eyelets are the most expensive and the most recognisable; ribbon handles glued inside the top fold suit jewellery and cosmetics; flat paper handles cost least and suit a boutique that gives out hundreds a week. Then pick the paper weight and lamination to match, and the foil colour against the paper. Measure your most common boxed purchase and allow 20 mm of clearance on each side and 40 mm above it.
Send the sizes, paper, handle style and logo, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day with low minimums quoted per job, so a small boutique can order a sensible quantity of each size. The free proof shows the bag flat with gusset, top fold and handle positions marked. Bags are made in 4 to 7 working days after sign-off and sent on free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days; misprinted or damaged bags reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. A matching clothing gift box that fits the bag completes the set for boutiques.

Luxury Paper Bags Questions
What buyers ask before ordering luxury paper bags.
What makes a paper bag luxury rather than standard?
Heavier paper, a laminated surface, a card-reinforced base and top, and soft rope or ribbon handles. Each detail makes the bag feel firmer and more premium in the hand.
Which handle is most comfortable?
Cotton rope is the softest to hold and strong enough for heavier items. Ribbon handles look elegant but suit lighter purchases like jewellery and lingerie.
Will laminated bags survive rain?
Lamination protects the print and paper from light rain and scuffs. Uncoated textured papers look lovely but mark more easily when wet.
Which foil colour suits a black bag?
Gold and silver both look striking on black matt. Coloured foils work too if they match your brand.
Can the handles be knotted through eyelets?
Yes, handles can be knotted through metal eyelets for a classic look or glued inside the top fold for a cleaner exterior.
Where can a luxury bag be printed on the inside?
Inside the top fold, where it shows when the bag is carried open, and on the gussets, which show as the bag widens. A colour or a repeat pattern there adds a hidden detail without crowding the front panel.
How do I choose the gusset width?
Measure the boxes you put in the bag. The gusset should let them sit flat without tilting, which keeps the bag upright and the handles comfortable.
Can I add a ribbon tie or magnetic closure?
Yes, a ribbon tie through the top or a magnetic flap keeps contents secure and adds a touch of ceremony when the bag is opened.
Do you make bottle bags for wine or perfume?
We make narrow bottle bags with a reinforced base. A card divider can be added for two bottles.
Will one logo work across a jewellery bag and a large fashion bag?
Yes. The logo is scaled to suit each size and all the bags are proofed together, so the foil mark sits in the same proportion on the smallest and the largest. Most boutiques run three sizes from one artwork.
What is a sensible first order for a small boutique?
Minimums are quoted per job and can be low. Many shops start with a modest quantity of two or three sizes and reorder the size that sells fastest.
