Custom Frozen Burger Boxes
Custom frozen burger boxes are printed cartons built to live in a freezer, made from board with a moisture-resistant coating so they stay rigid and readable through frost and condensation. They hold patties neatly stacked, protect them from freezer burn and sell them from the cabinet.

Packaging That Has to Survive the Cold
A frozen burger box goes through more than almost any other food carton. It is filled in a cold production room, blast frozen, packed into outer cases, driven in refrigerated lorries, loaded into retail freezers, lifted out by shoppers, carried home, and put back into a domestic freezer. At every stage it meets frost, condensation or both, and ordinary uncoated board would go soft, warp and lose its print within days.
Freezer-grade board is designed for this. It uses a stronger fibre structure and a protective coating on one or both faces, so moisture beads on the surface instead of soaking in. The box keeps its square shape on the shelf and the corners stay sharp, which matters because shoppers judge frozen food partly by how clean and intact the pack looks.
There is a practical cost to getting it wrong. Soft, ice-stained cartons get pushed to the back of a freezer, damaged packs are refused at goods-in, and a supermarket buyer notices quickly when a brand's packs look tired compared with those around them. p2 Fresh patties sold from a chiller use a lighter board, covered on our burger patty boxes page.
Frozen Burger Boxes for Producers and Butchers
Food manufacturers packing beef, chicken, lamb or plant-based patties for supermarket and wholesale lines are the main buyers. Independent butchers producing their own burgers for a freezer cabinet use them to compete visually with national brands. Farm shops, burger restaurants selling cook-at-home packs and meal-kit companies all need cartons that look appetising frozen solid.
Catering suppliers order plainer versions for foodservice, where cases of frozen patties go to pubs, schools and canteens. Here the priority is clear labelling, easy stacking and tough board rather than retail display, but branding still helps kitchens pick the right product quickly in a crowded walk-in freezer. p1 Foodservice cases are usually built as corrugated frozen food boxes for the walk-in freezer.

Carton Styles and Inner Packing
Most frozen burger boxes are reverse tuck end or sealed-end cartons, which are filled from one end and closed with a tuck or glue. Sealed ends give a tamper-evident finish that many retailers prefer. Sleeves that slide over a tray are another option, especially when the patties are already sealed in a film-wrapped tray and the carton is there to brand and protect.
Inside, patties are usually separated with interleaving paper so they do not freeze together. The box should be sized around the stack of patties and papers with a little clearance, so it closes without crushing the edges. A window in a frozen pack can show the product, but it needs a film that does not fog badly in the cold; many brands prefer a strong product photograph instead.
Speed on the packing line matters as well. If staff close cartons by hand, a reverse tuck end with a good friction lock is quick and forgiving. If you glue ends on a machine, tell us the equipment you use so the flap sizes and glue areas suit it, as a carton that runs well by hand does not always run smoothly through automated sealing.
Print That Sells From a Freezer Cabinet
Freezer cabinets are crowded and often have glass lids or doors that reflect light, so a frozen burger box needs to be recognisable from a step away. Strong colour blocks, a large product photograph and a clear brand name work best. The front panel should answer three questions instantly: what meat or protein, how many burgers and what size each one is.
The other panels carry the detail. Ingredients, allergens, nutrition, cooking instructions, storage advice and the business address all need space, along with a place for batch codes and best-before dates applied on your packing line. We plan the layout so these areas are clear and flat, away from folds and tuck flaps.
Clear cooking guidance builds trust too. Show whether the burgers can be cooked from frozen, the approximate time on a grill or in a pan, and a simple reminder to check they are piping hot in the middle. p2 Cook-at-home kits from restaurants often share a design with their printed takeaway burger boxes.
- Large product photography on the front
- Pack count and patty weight easy to spot
- Cooking instructions from frozen
- Clear panel for batch and date coding
Coatings and Board Options
The outer face is usually coated with a moisture-resistant varnish or film laminate that also protects the print from scuffing against other packs. The inner face can be coated too if the burgers are not separately wrapped, and food-contact grade board is available on request. White board shows food photography at its best, while a brown-backed board keeps costs down for foodservice lines that only need one or two colours.
Gloss finishes look vivid under supermarket lighting; matt finishes give a crafted, premium feel to butcher's and farm shop ranges. Either way, ask for a sample of the board to test in your own freezer for a week if you are switching from another supplier. p1 The coatings are explained in the guide to board and card types.
Sizing Around Your Patties
Measure the diameter of a frozen patty, not a fresh one, because shapes change slightly once frozen. Then measure the height of the full stack, including any interleaving papers. Add a few millimetres all round and you have the inside size of the carton.
Think about the outer case too. If your boxes go into a standard shipping case or a retailer's tray, sizing the carton so a whole number fit snugly saves space on every pallet and stops boxes sliding in transit.
If you sell several patty weights, it is tempting to use one big carton for everything. That leaves smaller packs rattling, which chips frozen edges and makes the box feel half empty when a shopper picks it up. Two or three carton sizes matched to your main pack counts usually look better and cost less in board overall. p2 The guide to measuring a product covers stacks and case counts.
Put a Sample Carton in Your Own Freezer for a Week
Freezer board is specified on paper, but it is judged in a cabinet, and every freezer runs at a slightly different humidity. Before a full run, ask for a plain sample of the board and leave it in your blast freezer and then a retail cabinet for a week; if the corners stay sharp and the surface beads rather than soaks, that is the grade to print. Measure a frozen patty, not a fresh one, and the stack height with interleaving papers in.
Tell us the coding method on your line, inkjet or label, so the coding panel gets the right surface, and send the case count so the carton divides neatly into the outer. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 a carton, with the minimum set per job.
The free proof shows every panel on the flat dieline with the coding area marked; if a retailer must approve the artwork, allow for that before you sign off. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the flat cartons reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Producers who wrap each patty order freezer paper sheets cut to size alongside.

Frozen Burger Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering frozen burger boxes.
Will a frozen burger carton go soft in the cabinet?
Not if it is made from freezer-grade board with a moisture-resistant coating, which beads frost and condensation rather than absorbing them. Ordinary uncoated board softens within days. We specify freezer-grade board for every frozen order and can send a sample to test in your own freezer.
Do I need interleaving papers between patties?
Interleaving papers stop patties freezing into one block, so customers can take out just what they need. We can supply them cut to size alongside the cartons.
Is a window a good idea on a frozen burger box?
It can be, but film windows may fog when cold. Many brands use a large product photograph instead, which always looks clean. If you want a window, keep it modest and we use a film suited to the cold.
Can the boxes be coded on my packing line?
Yes. We leave a flat, uncoated or suitably coated panel for inkjet or label coding of batch numbers and dates. Tell us your coding method so we choose the right surface.
What carton style do supermarkets prefer?
Many prefer sealed-end cartons because they show if a pack has been opened. Requirements vary by retailer, so check your buyer's packaging guidelines and we will match them.
How should I measure my burgers for the box?
Measure frozen patties, including the full stack height with papers, then add a few millimetres of clearance. Fresh patties can change shape slightly once frozen.
Can I use the same box for beef and plant-based lines?
You can use one carton size with different printed designs for each recipe. This keeps your filling process the same while making each product easy to tell apart.
Is the inside of the box suitable for food contact?
Food-contact grade board is available on request for unwrapped patties. If your patties are sealed in film first, standard freezer-grade board is usually enough.
Can you supply outer shipping cases too?
Yes, we can make corrugated cases sized to hold a set number of cartons. Matching sizes keeps pallets tidy and stops movement in refrigerated transport.
How quickly can a new flavour be packed?
Production takes 4–7 working days after proof approval and delivery to the UK mainland takes 2–3 working days, free and tracked. Allow extra time if your retailer needs to approve the artwork first.
A case of my frozen burger cartons arrived crushed. What happens?
Report it within 10 days with photos and we reprint or refund the affected cartons. Cartons ship flat in strong outer cases, so damage is rare, and the sound cases can go straight to your packing line.
