Custom Fishing Lure Boxes
Anglers choose lures with their eyes, checking colour, profile and finish through the packaging before they buy. Our custom fishing lure boxes give them a clear window onto the lure while an insert keeps sharp hooks safely fixed, with print and hang tabs suited to tackle shop walls.

What Anglers Look for on the Shelf
Walk into any tackle shop and you will see walls of lures hanging on pegs. Anglers browse slowly, comparing colours and shapes, often picking up two or three similar lures to compare. The lure itself is the main selling point, so the packaging must show it clearly. A box without a window forces the angler to guess, and most will simply pick a competitor's lure they can see.
Beyond the lure, anglers want key information at a glance: the length, the weight, the running depth for diving lures, the target species and the colour name. Experienced anglers often know exactly what they want and will scan for these details quickly. A well-organised box helps them find it.
The packaging also signals quality. A lure in a well-made, well-printed box suggests a carefully made product, which supports a higher price. Hand-painted and hand-carved lures in particular benefit from packaging that tells their story. A short line on the back about how the lure is made, or a maker's mark printed beside the window, gives the angler a reason to choose a small-batch lure over a mass-produced one hanging next to it. p2 Tackle brands that also sell balls or spares use the same display thinking as our golf ball boxes for pro shops.
Keeping Hooks Under Control
Lures come armed with sharp treble hooks or single hooks that catch on everything. Loose in a box, they snag the packaging, tangle with each other and can injure the customer opening the box. A good insert holds the lure firmly, with the hooks fixed in place so they cannot swing about.
Common solutions include a card backing with slits that the hooks clip into, a foam strip that the hook points press into, or a moulded tray shaped around the lure. For soft baits, which are often sold in packs of several, a resealable bag inside the box or a card with a clear blister works well. p1 The blister option is covered on our blister packaging page.
- Card backing with hook slits: crankbaits and minnows
- Foam strip: spinners, spoons and jigs
- Moulded tray: larger lures and lure sets
- Inner bag: soft plastic baits in multiples
- Clear blister on card: jig heads and small spinners

Choosing Fishing Lure Boxes With a Window
Window boxes are the standard for lure packaging. A die-cut window in the front panel, covered with clear film, lets the angler see the lure while the box stays closed. The window can follow the lure's outline for a striking look, or be a simple rectangle that works for several lure sizes.
Some brands go further with a full clear front, essentially a clear box with a printed card back. This shows the lure from every angle. Others use a clamshell, where the lure sits in a clear plastic shell that hinges open. The right choice depends on the lure size, the price point and the look you want.
Whichever option you choose, the film should be clear and scratch resistant, so the lure still looks good after handling in the shop. p2 The window film options are the same as on our hang tab boxes with a window.
Sizes for Different Lure Types
Lure boxes vary widely in size. A small spinner or jig might need a box only 40 mm wide and 100 mm tall, while a large pike or sea lure can need a box 50 mm wide and 250 mm long. Measure the lure from the nose to the tip of the rear hook, and its widest point including the hooks, then add space for the insert.
If you sell several sizes of the same lure, a family of boxes with matching designs looks tidy on the shelf. Some brands use one box width with different heights for each lure length, so the boxes line up neatly on a peg wall. Weight matters as much as length for heavy jigs and sea lures. A dense metal lure swinging on a peg can tear a thin tab or pull the box out of shape, so for heavier lures we use a thicker board or a double-layer tab, and the insert is fixed more firmly so the lure does not slide down against the base. p1 The guide to measuring a product explains how to allow for protruding parts.
Hang Tabs and Display
Most lures are displayed on pegs, so the box needs a hang tab. A euro slot, shaped like a wide arch, fits most tackle shop hooks and keeps the box facing forward. A round hole suits simpler hooks. The tab should be strong enough to carry the box, especially for heavier lures.
For counter displays, a small display box holding several lures in an open-front tray can sit next to the till, encouraging impulse purchases. Brands supplying shops sometimes include a counter display with their first order to help the shop get the lures noticed. p1 A till-side unit is shown on our counter display boxes page.
Print That Speaks to Anglers
Tackle branding tends to be bold and confident. Strong colours, clear typography and images of fish or water are common. Many brands use a dark background that frames the window and the lure. Others use a clean white design that looks technical and precise. Consider where your lures will be fished, too. Lures for sea and saltwater fishing often use blues and greys that suggest the coast, while coarse and pike lures may lean on greens and browns. The colours on the box can quietly tell the angler which water the lure is made for before they read a word.
Put the key specifications on the front, near the window: length, weight, running depth and colour name. The back panel can carry more detail, such as how to fish the lure, recommended line strength and target species. An action photo of the lure in the water, or a fish caught on it, helps sell the product.
Printing the colour name on a removable sticker, rather than the box itself, lets you use one box design for every colourway and saves reprinting. p2 The finishes are compared in the guide to print and finish options.
Measure Nose to Rear Hook, Then Weigh the Lure
Lure boxes are sized hook to nose, not body to body. Lay the lure flat with the trebles hanging as they will in the box, measure from the nose to the tip of the rear hook and across the widest point including the hooks, and send those figures with the weight. The weight matters: a 60 g jig swinging on a peg pulls a thin hang tab out of shape, so heavy lures get a doubled tab and a firmer insert.
Decide the window shape from your range: a rectangle if one box must cover several sizes, a lure-shaped window if each size has its own. Print the colour name on a sticker so one print covers every colourway. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with the minimum set per job.
The free proof shows the box, the window and the hook slits in the insert. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the boxes reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Makers who sell soft baits in packs usually add resealable bags for soft baits in the same artwork.

Fishing Lure Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering fishing lure boxes.
How do I stop hooks snagging the box?
An insert with hook slits or a foam strip holds the hooks in place. The lure stays fixed, the hooks cannot swing and the customer opens the box safely.
Can the window follow the shape of my lure?
Yes. A shaped window that follows the lure's outline is striking. A simple rectangle works better if one box covers several lure sizes.
Which hang tab suits tackle shop hooks?
A euro slot fits most tackle shop hooks and keeps the box facing forward. A round hole suits simpler hooks.
Can I use one box for every colour of a lure?
Yes. Printing the colour name on a removable sticker lets one box design cover every colourway.
What details should be on the front?
Length, weight, running depth and colour name are the details anglers look for first. Put them near the window.
Can you package soft plastic baits?
Yes. Soft baits are usually packed in an inner bag inside a printed box or on a card with a clear blister.
Can I order a counter display for shops?
Yes. An open-front display tray holding several lures sits beside the till and encourages impulse buys.
How do I measure a lure for the box?
Measure from the nose to the tip of the rear hook and across the widest point including hooks. Add space for the insert.
How soon can the boxes be on my shop wall?
Lure boxes are made in four to seven working days from proof approval and arrive by free tracked delivery on the UK mainland two to three working days later. Order three weeks before a season launch to be safe.
Can a small lure maker order low quantities?
Yes. Minimums are low and set per job, so small makers can order modest runs of each box size.
