Custom Hang Tab Boxes with Window

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom hang tab boxes with window let a product hang on a retail peg while shoppers see it through a clear film panel, so the item sells itself without anyone opening the box. They are made for accessories, phone gear, small electricals and gifts that need both protection and a view of what is inside.

Peg Display Meets a Clear View

Shops love peg walls because they use vertical space efficiently and keep small products tidy. Shoppers, on the other hand, want to see what they are buying, especially when choosing between colours, cable lengths or designs. A hang tab box with a window gives both sides what they want: the box hangs flat and straight from a hook, and the window shows the product clearly.

Compared with a blister pack, a carton with a window feels more premium, is easier to open without scissors, and gives you large printed panels for branding and product information. Compared with a closed box, it removes the doubt that stops shoppers picking up an unfamiliar brand. That is why the format is so common for charging cables, earphones, phone cases, watch straps, cosmetics accessories and small toys.

It also helps shop staff. A clear window means stock checks can be done at a glance, and the right colour is easier to find when restocking a busy peg wall. Products that do not need to be seen can use hanging retail boxes without a window at lower cost.

Hang Tab Styles and Hole Shapes

The tab can be an extension of the back panel, folded double for strength, or a separate header glued to the top of the box. A double-thickness tab is the most common because it resists tearing when shoppers pull the box off a hook. The hole is usually a euro-slot, a shape like a sombrero that sits on most retail peg hooks, though round holes suit slatwall pins and some supermarket fittings.

Check the hooks your stockists use before choosing a hole. Most UK retail displays accept a standard euro-slot, but some independent shops use simple wire hooks that work best with a round hole. If you are not sure, the euro-slot is the safer default. The tab styles are shared with our custom hanger boxes with a euro slot.

  • Euro-slot for most retail peg hooks
  • Round hole for slatwall pins and simple hooks
  • Double-thickness tab to resist tearing
  • Tab can fold flat for shelf display

Planning the Window

The window should frame the part of the product shoppers care about most. For a phone case it might be the back design; for earphones, the buds and the colour of the cable; for a watch strap, the buckle and texture. Placing the window over a dull part of the product wastes the advantage.

Leave enough board around the window for strength and for your branding. A window that takes up more than about two-thirds of the front panel can weaken the box and leave little room for the product name. We usually suggest a border of at least 10 mm, with rounded corners on the window to reduce the risk of tearing.

The clear film is fixed on the inside of the panel, so edges are hidden. For products that are small or loose, an insert behind the window holds the item in the right position so it does not slide down into the base of the box.

Sizing a Hanging Box

Measure the product with any accessories, such as a cable tie, adaptor or instruction leaflet, and decide whether it will sit flat against the back panel or stand on its base. Add 2 to 5 mm in each direction for easy packing. Then add the tab height on top, typically 30 to 40 mm, to get the full hanging height.

Keep depth modest. Hanging boxes that are too deep tilt forward on the hook and look messy. If your product is chunky, consider a wider tab or a slightly heavier board to keep the box hanging straight. Weight matters too: very heavy items may need a reinforced tab or a plastic hook insert.

Before you sign off the size, hang a mock-up on the type of hook your stockists use and look at it from a shopper's height. A box that faces slightly upward or sideways is harder to read, and a quick paper mock-up made from the dieline is enough to spot the problem. Check too that boxes hung several deep on one hook can still be lifted off without the one behind catching on the window film.

Board, Print and Finishing

White folding boxboard is the standard choice, giving crisp full colour print on all panels. Kraft board suits natural or minimalist ranges, especially with black or white ink. For heavier electricals, a thicker board or a micro-flute corrugated stops the tab from bowing.

Gloss lamination makes colours pop under bright shop lighting, while matt or soft-touch gives a calmer, more premium look. Spot UV on the logo or product name adds contrast on a matt box. The back panel usually carries specifications, compatibility details, a barcode and any safety information, so allow space for it in your artwork.

Remember that the window is a hole in your printed area. We show it clearly on the proof so text and logos sit where they should.

Where Hang Tab Window Boxes Are Used

Phone and tech accessory brands are the largest group of buyers, along with sellers of small electricals such as bulbs, plugs, adaptors and torches. Fashion accessory brands use them for hair clips, socks and jewellery; cosmetic brands for brushes, sponges and nail kits. Toy makers use them for small figures, card games and craft kits that hang in gift shops.

Hardware and garden brands pack small fixings, seed kits and garden accessories in them for DIY stores, and pet brands use them for collars, leads and toys. Many brands also sell the same boxed item online, where the window still gives a good unboxing view. Heavier items such as small electricals suit five panel hanger boxes for heavier items, which carry the weight on a folded panel.

Ask Your Stockists Which Hook They Use Before You Cut the Tab

The tab on a hanging window box has to match the hook it hangs on, and shops differ: most use euro hooks, some use slatwall pins, and a few hang from rails. Ask your stockists before ordering, because a euro slot is the safe default but a round hole is wrong on a euro hook. Then weigh the product, since a heavy item needs a double-folded or reinforced tab and sometimes a micro-flute board. Plan the window with at least a 10 mm border of board and an insert behind it so the product stays visible however the box hangs. If the box must also stand on a shelf, ask for a fold-down tab. For heavier electricals, a five panel hanger box carries the weight better.

Send the product dimensions, weight, window position and hook type, with artwork or a brief, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day. The free proof shows the dieline, window and tab. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval, boxes arrive flat by tracked courier to UK mainland addresses, and misprinted or damaged boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Hang Tab Boxes with Window Questions

What buyers ask before ordering hang tab boxes with window.

Which hole shape should I choose for the hang tab?

A euro-slot fits most retail peg hooks and is the safest default. Round holes suit slatwall pins and simple wire hooks.

Will the tab tear when shoppers pull the box off?

We fold the tab double for strength on most styles, and can reinforce it further for heavier products.

How big can the window be?

We recommend keeping at least a 10 mm border of board around the window. Very large windows weaken the box and leave little room for branding.

How do I stop the product sliding below the window?

An insert behind the window holds the product in position, so it stays visible however the box is handled.

Can the box sit on a shelf as well as hang?

Yes. A fold-down tab lets the same box hang on a peg or stand on a shelf, which helps when stockists display products differently.

What is the window film made from?

We use clear PET film fixed to the inside of the panel, so the edges are hidden and the window stays crisp.

Can I print specifications and barcodes on the back?

Yes. The back panel is ideal for compatibility details, specifications, safety text and a barcode.

Is the format strong enough for small electricals?

For heavier items we suggest thicker board or micro-flute corrugated, and a reinforced tab so the box hangs straight.

Can I get a shaped window?

Yes, the window can be cut to a shape such as a circle or an outline of your product, as long as enough board remains for strength.

Can hanging window boxes be ready for a product listing date four weeks away?

Yes, if the proof is approved in the first week. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and free tracked UK mainland delivery adds 2 to 3, which leaves time to fill boxes before the listing goes live.

What is the minimum quantity?

Minimums are low and quoted per job. Tell us how many stockists you are supplying and we will suggest a starting run.
