The Three-Ball Sleeve Explained

A golf ball is 42.67 mm across, and three of them in a line make a neat oblong pack that fits a golf bag pocket. That is why the sleeve became the standard unit for selling and giving balls. It is small enough to post through a letterbox in a padded envelope, cheap enough to give away in volume, and still looks like a proper gift.

Most sleeves are a single folding carton with tuck ends, sometimes with a small window showing the balls. Inside, a thin card divider can separate the balls, though many sleeves simply hold them snugly in a line. Twelve-ball boxes usually hold four sleeves, so getting the sleeve right also sets the size of any larger box you may need.

Because the sleeve is the part a golfer handles most, it is the best place to put branding. Balls are often printed with a small logo, but the sleeve carries the full design, the event name and the sponsor.

Sleeves are also easy to store. They pack tightly into cartons, take up little room in a club office, and can be handed out from a box on the first tee without fuss. The same print files can be reused for golf ball boxes if you want a matching range.

Printed Golf Ball Sleeves for Clubs and Corporate Days

Golf clubs order sleeves in their colours with the crest on the front for the pro shop and for prizes. Corporate golf days are another big group: the host company prints its logo, the event name and sometimes a sponsor's mark, then hands a sleeve to every player on the first tee.

Charity golf days use sleeves in goody bags, and golf societies print them for annual trophies. Brands outside golf, such as banks, car dealers and law firms, use printed sleeves as client gifts because golf is such a common hobby among their customers. p1 Companies that gift tennis balls instead use our printed boxes for tennis balls in the same way.

Sizing a Golf Ball Sleeve

Inside dimensions of about 44 x 44 x 132 mm hold three standard balls with a little play. Some premium balls are fractionally larger once printed, and a slightly snugger fit stops rattling, so tell us which ball brand you will use if you are not sure. If you want a card divider between each ball, allow a few extra millimetres on the length.

Two-ball sleeves are also possible for smaller giveaways, and single-ball cube boxes suit prize presentations where a single special ball is the gift. For a twelve-ball outer, four sleeves side by side need an inside of about 180 x 135 x 47 mm, depending on sleeve board thickness.

If the sleeves will travel by post as part of a gift pack, a slightly heavier board and a snug fit are worth it, because loose balls hitting the tuck flap can push it open in transit. p2 The guide to measuring a product explains how to allow for a snug fit on round items.

Board, Print and Finish Choices

A 350 gsm folding board is the usual choice. It folds crisply, holds its shape in a golf bag pocket and takes detailed print. White board shows club colours accurately. Black board with gold or silver foil gives a premium look that suits trophy prizes and high-end client gifts.

Full-colour print covers all four long panels and both ends, so you can show a course photograph, a hole map or a sponsor list. A matt lamination resists scuffs from tees and pencils in a bag. Spot gloss on the crest or a raised emboss adds a touch of quality without much cost.

Club crests often include fine detail and thin lines. Send them as vector files if you can, so the proof shows sharp edges rather than a blurred enlargement of a website image.

Kraft board is less common in golf but works well for clubs that prefer a natural, understated look; a single dark ink keeps the crest crisp on the brown surface. p3 The stocks are compared in the guide to board and card types.

Windows and Display Features

A die-cut window on the front panel shows the ball brand and any logo printed on the balls themselves, which reassures buyers in a pro shop. Many clubs prefer a solid sleeve with the balls hidden for prize presentations, so the reveal happens when the winner opens it.

A hang tab on top lets the pro shop peg sleeves on a display wall. For counters, a display tray holding a dozen sleeves upright makes a simple point-of-sale unit beside the till. p1 A prize presentation for a single special ball is covered on our rigid boxes for sports gifts page.

Planning Artwork for a Narrow Pack

A sleeve is long and narrow, so artwork needs planning. The front panel is roughly 44 mm wide and 132 mm tall, which suits a vertical crest with the club or company name below. Text running along the length of the sleeve reads well when the sleeve lies flat on a table but is harder to read on a shelf, so pick one orientation and stick with it.

Use the two side panels for supporting details: event name, sponsor logos, a website or a short message. The back panel can carry a course map, the signature hole or a short welcome. The small ends are ideal for a single icon or the club initials, because they are what shows when sleeves are packed into a twelve-ball box.

Keep text at 7 pt or larger and avoid placing logos across a fold. We mark folds and safe areas on the free proof so you can adjust before printing. p2 The guide to print and finish options shows foil and spot gloss on a crest.

Name the Ball Brand Before You Name the Quantity

Three-ball sleeves are nearly all the same size, and the difference that matters is the ball. A premium ball with a printed logo runs a fraction larger than a value ball, and a sleeve cut loose rattles in a bag while one cut tight splits at the tuck. Tell us the ball brand and model first, and if you want card dividers between the balls, which add a few millimetres to the length.

Send the crest as a vector file, because club crests are full of thin lines that blur when a web image is enlarged, and say if a sponsor shares the front or takes a side panel. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with the minimum set per job.

The free proof shows the dieline with folds and safe areas marked, so check that no logo crosses a fold. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the sleeves reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery, which fits if you order a few weeks before the day. Clubs with a pro shop wall add our display boxes for golf ball sleeves in the same crest.

Golf Ball Sleeves Questions

What buyers ask before ordering golf ball sleeves.

What inside size fits three golf balls?

About 44 x 44 x 132 mm holds three standard balls with a little play. We can tighten it slightly to stop rattling if you tell us the ball brand.

Can you print a club crest in its exact colours?

Yes. Pantone spot colours match club colours closely, and vector artwork keeps fine crest detail sharp.

Do you supply the golf balls?

We make and print the sleeves only. You or your merchandise supplier provide the balls, and many clubs have balls logo-printed separately.

Can I add a window to show the balls?

Yes, a die-cut window with clear film shows the ball brand. Prize sleeves are often left solid for the reveal.

Can the sleeves go inside a twelve-ball box?

Yes, we can make a matching outer that holds four sleeves, sized to the sleeve board thickness. Order both together so the fit is checked on one proof.

Will a sleeve survive in a golf bag pocket?

A 350 gsm board with matt lamination copes well with a bag pocket. It resists scuffs from tees, pencils and gloves.

Can each sleeve carry a sponsor's logo?

Yes. One panel can be set aside for a sponsor, or the sponsor can share the front with your event branding.

How far ahead should I order for a golf day?

Allow 4–7 working days for production after proof approval and 2–3 working days for free tracked delivery. Ordering a few weeks early leaves room for artwork changes.

Can I order a small run for a society?

Minimums are low and quoted per job, so a society can order just enough sleeves for its members. Fifty sleeves is a typical society order.

Can you make a counter display for the pro shop?

Yes, a printed display tray holding a dozen sleeves upright makes a simple point-of-sale unit by the till. It is cut from the same board and printed in the same run.
