What Bait Packaging Has to Cope With
Fishing bait is used outdoors, often in the rain, by people with wet or muddy hands. The packaging gets thrown into a bag or bucket, opened and closed many times in a session and sometimes left in a hot car. A bag that splits, a zip that clogs or a print that rubs off quickly makes the product look poor, however good the bait.
Many baits also smell strongly by design. Fishmeal boilies, krill pellets and flavoured groundbaits are meant to attract fish, but anglers do not want the smell everywhere in the car or the house. A good barrier film and a reliable reseal keep the aroma in the bag until it is needed and help the bait keep its texture.
On the shop side, bait competes with a wall of similar products. Clear branding, flavour coding and visible product all help an angler pick yours quickly. If you need a second format, our golf ball boxes can carry the same design.
Bag Styles for Custom Fishing Bait Bags
Stand-up pouches with a zip are the most popular choice for boilies, pellets and hookbaits. They stand on a shelf or on the bank, open wide for scooping, and reseal firmly. A flat-bottom bag holds bigger quantities, such as a kilogram or more of boilies or groundbait, and stays upright when half empty.
Flat pouches with a header and hang hole suit soft plastic lures, rigs and small packs of hookbaits, hanging neatly on tackle shop pegs. For bulk groundbait and particle mixes, a larger gusseted bag with a heat seal is economical. Some brands also use printed cartons for boxed lure sets and bait kits. Resealable formats follow our stand-up pouches with a zip, cut from a tougher film.

Films, Barriers and Windows
Bait bags are usually made from layered films. A matte or gloss outer film carries the print, a barrier layer such as metallised film or foil holds in moisture and aroma, and an inner sealant layer makes the seal. For frozen or oily baits, a tougher inner film resists puncturing by hard pellets and keeps oils from seeping through.
A clear window is a strong selling point. Anglers like to see the colour, size and texture of boilies or the action shape of a lure before they buy. Windows reduce the barrier slightly, so for strongly flavoured baits we usually suggest a smaller window or a fully metallised bag with a clear photograph printed on it instead.
Slider zips are easier to use with cold or wet hands than press-to-close zips, and they are popular with carp anglers who open bags many times a session.
Think about temperature too. Bags left on a sunny bank or in a car boot get warm, and some films soften or crease more than others. If your bait is sold for summer carp sessions, a slightly heavier laminate keeps the bag looking crisp and the seal secure in the heat. Frozen and oily baits suit the thicker laminate of our heavy duty mylar bags for frozen bait.
Printing a Range Anglers Can Read Fast
Most anglers know what they want: a flavour, a size and a brand. Make those three things big. A clear colour system for flavours, with a band or background colour for each, helps anglers spot their favourite at a glance and makes a range look organised on the wall.
The back of the bag is for detail. Size in millimetres, weight, ingredients, recommended uses, soaking or preparation tips and a barcode all belong there. Keep the type large enough to read outdoors, and avoid fine detail that disappears on a matte film.
Matte films with a spot gloss on the logo give a modern, premium look that many bait brands prefer. Gloss films make colours brighter and suit bold, energetic branding. You receive a free proof of every flavour so colour bands can be checked side by side.
Sizing by Weight and Bait Type
Bait is sold by weight, so we size bags from the fill weight and the bait type. A kilogram of dense pellets takes up much less room than a kilogram of large boilies, and groundbait mixes are bulkier again. Send us the product and target weight, or a sample, and we will match a bag with sensible headroom for the zip and seal.
For hookbait pots and small packs, think about how they hang. A header with a euro slot keeps the bag straight on a peg and stops it twisting round so the front faces the wall.
If you sell several sizes of the same bait, keep the bag width the same and vary the height. Your range will look tidy in shops and one artwork layout will cover them all. Our guide on how to size a bag by volume explains why groundbait needs more room than its weight suggests.
Who Orders Bait Bags
Bait rolling companies and small makers selling online are the core customers, along with tackle shops creating own-label bait. Fishery shops selling bait on site, sea angling suppliers packing frozen and preserved baits and lure designers producing soft plastics all use printed pouches. Match and specimen anglers sometimes order small runs of branded bags for team bait or competitions.
The needs vary between them. An online bait maker wants bags that survive a courier and look good in product photos, so a matte film and a strong zip matter most. A tackle shop wants bags that hang straight and show the flavour clearly from a few steps away. A fishery selling bait at the lodge wants something simple and economical that anglers can grab on the way to their peg, and a lure designer needs a header pouch that shows off the shape and colour of each soft plastic. Hard lures and spinners go in fishing lure boxes for the shelf in the same colours.
Tell Us the Bait, Its Smell and Whether It Is Frozen
Bait bags are specified from the bait itself, so the first three facts we need are what it is, how strongly it smells and whether it is sold frozen or chilled. Fishmeal boilies need a metallised barrier to hold the aroma; hard pellets need a tougher inner film; frozen or oily baits need strong seals and a film that stays flexible in the cold. Then give the fill weight and, for bulky groundbait, a sample so the bag is sized by volume. Decide on a slider zip for cold hands and a hang hole for tackle shop pegs, and keep flavour colours consistent across the range. Soft lures often sell better on a header card with a window than in a plain pouch.
Send the bait type, fill weight, bag style and quantity, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day, with minimums low enough to test a new flavour. The free proof follows before production. Bags are made in 4 to 7 working days after approval, arrive by tracked courier to UK mainland addresses, and faulty zips, misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Fishing Bait Bags Questions
What buyers ask before ordering fishing bait bags.
Will a fishmeal bait smell through the bag?
A metallised or foil barrier film holds aroma far better than plain plastic. Keeping the zip closed between uses also helps.
Which zip is easiest with cold hands?
A slider zip is the easiest to open and close with cold or wet hands. It costs a little more than a press-to-close zip but anglers notice the difference.
Can I show the boilies through a window?
Yes, a clear window shows colour and size. For strongly flavoured baits we suggest a smaller window to keep more of the barrier intact.
Will hard pellets puncture the bag?
A tougher inner film resists puncturing by hard or sharp pellets. Tell us the bait type so we can specify the right laminate.
Can soft lures hang on a tackle shop peg?
Yes, header pouches with a euro slot or round hang hole are made for peg display. The header keeps the pouch facing forwards.
How do I size a bag for groundbait?
Groundbait is bulky, so size from volume rather than weight alone. Send the target weight and a sample if possible and we will match a bag.
Can a boilie range use one bag design with a colour per flavour?
Yes, and it is one of the best ways to organise a range. One layout with a changing colour band and flavour name keeps the brand consistent while anglers find their flavour quickly on a shelf.
Can I test a new flavour with a small run?
Minimums are low and quoted per job, so a trial run for a new flavour or size is fine. Ask for a custom quote.
Are the bags suitable for frozen bait?
Frozen and oily baits need a tougher inner film and strong seals. Mention that the bait will be frozen when you request a quote.
How soon can bags be ready for a new season's stock?
After proof approval, production takes 4–7 working days and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2–3 working days. Plan around your stock date.
What happens if zips fail on arrival?
Report any faults or damage within 10 days with photos and we will reprint the affected bags or refund you.
