Custom Essential Oil Gable Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom essential oil gable boxes are carry boxes with a built-in handle at the top, sized to hold two or three dropper bottles side by side in a card insert. They turn a set of oils into a ready-to-give gift that can be picked up off a shelf or a market table without a bag.

A Carry Box That Sells Oils as a Set

Single bottles of lavender or eucalyptus are easy to sell, but a trio grouped around a theme, such as sleep, focus or a winter blend, gives a shopper a reason to spend more. A gable box frames that trio. The two roof panels rise into a handle, so the set looks finished and can be carried like a tiny bag.

Inside, a die-cut insert holds each bottle upright and apart. Glass knocking against glass is the main cause of chipped caps and leaking droppers, and a snug insert stops that. The front panel then carries the set name, while the side panels hold the oil names, usage directions and your contact details.

Farm shops, garden centres and independent oil makers like the format because it needs no extra packaging at the till. The handle doubles as a hanging point on a peg display, and the flat base sits steadily on a shelf. Single bottles sold beside the sets use the plain essential oil boxes for single bottles.

Essential Oil Gable Boxes Built Around Your Bottles

Bottle sizes vary more than most people expect. A 10 ml amber bottle with a dropper cap is about 25 mm across and 70 mm tall, but a 15 ml bottle grows to roughly 28 x 80 mm, and a roller ball sits slimmer and taller. We cut the insert holes to your actual bottle, so send us one or the exact diameter and height including the cap.

Leave about 10–15 mm of clearance above the tallest cap before the roof folds begin. That space lets the gable close cleanly without pressing on the dropper. For a three-bottle set of 10 ml oils, an outer of around 110 x 45 x 95 mm to the shoulder works well.

If your range includes a carrier oil such as sweet almond or jojoba in a 30 ml bottle, the box needs a split-height insert: a deeper well for the larger bottle and shallower wells for the 10 ml oils. We can raise the shorter bottles on a stepped platform so all the caps line up at roughly the same height, which looks tidier when the roof is opened and stops the small bottles sinking out of reach.

For sets that will be posted, ask for a crash-lock base and a slightly tighter insert. The gable shape itself is not a postal box, so put it inside a small mailer, but a firm base and snug wells mean the set arrives looking exactly as it left your workshop. The well layouts are drawn up as on the essential oil boxes with card inserts page.

  • Two-bottle sets: couples blends, starter kits, sample pairs
  • Three-bottle sets: themed trios such as sleep, calm and energy
  • Bottle plus roller: one oil and its ready-to-use roller blend
  • Bottle plus diffuser stick pack: a small add-on that fills the box

Board, Print and Finish

Most gable boxes are made from 350–400 gsm folding carton board. White board gives the brightest print for botanical illustrations and colour-coded blends. Kraft board suits brands with a natural, apothecary feel and takes one or two dark inks very well.

Full-colour printing covers every panel, including the inside if you want a message revealed when the roof opens. A matt lamination softens the look and resists fingerprints, while a spot gloss on the set name catches the light on a shelf. Foil in gold or copper works nicely for a botanical crest or a small logo.

Keep text on the roof panels short. Those panels angle away from the eye when the box sits on a shelf, so the main message belongs on the front face below the shoulder.

If you sell several blends in the same box shape, colour coding is a neat trick. Keep the layout and logo identical, then change the background colour per set, such as soft blue for sleep and warm orange for energy. Shoppers learn the system quickly and can spot the set they want from across the shop. Kraft and white boards with one-colour or full-colour print are compared in the print and finish options guide.

Who Uses These Boxes

Small-batch oil makers selling at craft fairs use gable boxes to build bundles that lift the average sale. Holistic therapists sell take-home sets after a treatment. Farm shops and garden centres stock them as ready-made gifts near the till, where an easy carry handle encourages a last-minute purchase.

Wellness subscription brands sometimes use a gable box inside a mailer to present a monthly pair of oils, which gives the unboxing a second reveal.

Corporate wellness gifts are another growing use. Businesses order branded trios for staff or clients, with the company logo printed alongside the oil maker's own brand, and the handle makes them easy to hand out at an event. Larger wellness sets with a candle or a diffuser use the aromatherapy gift boxes with trays.

Labels, Compliance Panels and Small Print

Essential oils usually carry safety wording, batch numbers and the contents of each bottle. Rather than squeeze all of that on the tiny bottle label, many brands move the fuller text to the box. The back panel of a gable box offers a flat, readable area of around 100 x 80 mm on a three-bottle set, which is plenty for directions, warnings and a short brand story.

Leave a blank box on the base or back panel if you need to add batch codes or best-before dates by hand or with a small label printer. We can also print a white strip on kraft board so stamped dates show clearly.

We do not advise on the legal wording your oils need, but we will check every line is legible on the proof and that nothing falls across a fold or glue flap. Keep body text at 6 pt or larger, and avoid placing important words within 3 mm of a crease. The guide to measuring products for packaging explains the 3 mm rule around creases.

Stand the Bottles Together Before Sizing the Insert

A gable box for oils is sized by the row of bottles, so stand them side by side on the bench exactly as they will sit in the insert, with 5 mm between each and 5 mm at the ends, and measure the row. Dropper bottles are usually wider at the cap than the glass, so measure the caps, and note the tallest bottle with its cap on because the gable peak has to clear it.

Send the bottle size, the number per set, a rough quantity and any artwork, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day. The dieline is drawn to your bottle and the free proof shows the panel positions, ingredient text and insert before printing. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the boxes ship flat with free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days; inserts arrive flat too. Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded, and minimums are quoted per job. Sets that need a lid and a heavier feel move to the rigid essential oil boxes with lids.

Essential Oil Gable Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering essential oil gable boxes.

Do the inserts stop bottles knocking together?

Yes. Each bottle sits in its own die-cut hole in a card insert, so glass never touches glass. We cut the holes to your exact bottle diameter.

Can a gable box hold roller bottles as well as droppers?

It can. Roller bottles are slimmer and taller, so we adjust the insert holes and the box height. Mixed sets of one dropper and one roller are popular.

Where should ingredient and safety text go?

Side panels and the back face are best because they stay flat and readable. The roof panels angle away on a shelf, so keep only short wording there.

Can a gable box show the three bottle labels through a window?

Yes. A die-cut window with clear film on the front panel shows the labels of all three bottles when they sit in the insert at the same height. The window is positioned on the proof so the insert still holds every bottle firmly.

Will the handle take the weight of glass bottles?

Two or three small bottles are light, and a 350–400 gsm board handle carries them easily. For four or more bottles we suggest a crash-lock base for added strength.

Can I hang these boxes on a peg display?

We can punch a hang hole through the handle so the box hangs neatly on a retail peg. Tell us the peg size when you ask for a quote.

Is kraft or white board better for oils?

Kraft gives a natural apothecary look and suits dark inks. White board shows botanical artwork and colour-coded blends more vividly.

Can I order one design for several blends?

Many brands print one shared box and add a small blend sticker. Alternatively, we can quote several designs together so each set has its own front panel.

Can the gable box go straight into the post?

It is a retail carry box rather than a postal box, so pop it inside a small mailer for shipping. A crash-lock base and a snug insert keep the set tidy inside.

Do I need to send a bottle?

A sample bottle is ideal, but exact measurements of diameter and height including the cap are enough. We draw the dieline from those figures.

What is the lowest order quantity?

Minimums are set per job and kept low so you can trial a single set. Your custom quote by email will list the quantity options.
