The insert is the heart of an oil collection box. Card inserts with die-cut wells are economical and look clean. Foam inserts, covered or uncovered, give the snuggest fit and best protection for glass. Moulded pulp inserts have a natural look that suits plant-based brands.

Collections often mix bottle sizes, such as several 10 ml oils with a 30 ml carrier oil or a set of roller bottles. Inserts can include wells of different sizes, a compartment for a diffuser or a guide booklet, and a ribbon lift to bring bottles up for easy removal. Keep label orientation in mind. Bottles should sit so their labels face forward when the lid opens, which means the insert wells must be sized closely enough to stop bottles rotating in transit.

For roller bottles, which are slimmer and taller than dropper bottles, wells can be cut deeper so the roller tops sit level with the dropper caps. A level line of caps looks far tidier when the lid opens, and it makes it easier for customers to lift each bottle out.

Wraps and Finishes for an Aromatherapy Brand

The wrap paper carries the brand look. Smooth printed wraps can show botanical illustrations, patterns or photography in full colour. Textured papers, such as linen or felt-marked, give a tactile, natural feel and look elegant with a single foil logo. Soft colours, such as sage, blush, ivory and soft grey, are popular for aromatherapy, while deep greens and navy look rich and premium.

Foil stamping in gold, copper or rose gold adds a subtle shine. Embossing or debossing a botanical motif adds texture. Inside, a printed lining or a message on the inside lid makes opening the box more memorable.

Sizing Oil Collection Boxes

Start with the bottles. A 10 ml dropper bottle is about 25 mm in diameter and 70 mm tall with its cap; a 15 ml bottle is about 28 x 80 mm. For a set of six 10 ml bottles in two rows of three, an inside of about 110 x 75 x 80 mm works with a card insert. A set of twelve in three rows of four needs around 140 x 105 x 80 mm.

Add space for any booklet or diffuser and for the insert thickness. Rigid boxes have thicker walls than folding cartons, so outer dimensions are a few millimetres larger than inside dimensions.

Candle and home fragrance brands that add oils to their range often use rigid boxes to match their existing candle packaging, giving the whole collection a consistent look.
