What the Box Is Made Of

The retail version is kraft folding boxboard, 350 to 400 gsm, printed and die-cut flat, then glued into a tuck end box or a crash-lock base. It can be natural brown throughout or white on the outside with the brown showing inside. The shipping version is kraft E flute corrugated, built as a mailer with a locking lid for toys sold online.

Inks are water-based. We do not laminate these boxes with a film, add a foil block or fit a plastic window; where the toy needs to be seen, we cut an open aperture in the board. Inserts that hold a toy in position are folded card from the same board, or a moulded pulp tray for heavier wooden pieces.

That is the construction we describe on the quote. Data sheets for the board and the inks are available from the material supplier on request, and any claim about the box on your product listing is yours to approve. The printed toy boxes in all styles page lists the laminated and film-window versions if you want to compare them with this build.

Styles for Different Toys

A tuck end box is the shelf standard for small toys: rattles, teethers, wooden cars, puzzles and craft kits. A lid and base box suits a gift toy that will be opened at a table, and the lid lifts off to show the contents in a card tray. A box with a carry handle, cut from the board itself, is popular for play sets and sorting toys that children carry around.

An open window lets a parent see the toy without opening the box. We cut the aperture to the shape of the toy or as a simple rounded rectangle, and we keep the edges 15 mm from any fold so the board stays rigid. Without film, the window is open, so this style suits toys that are robust and can be touched on the shelf.

For toys that ship direct to the customer, a kraft corrugated mailer with a printed inside lid gives the unboxing moment without a second outer box. The toy shipping boxes for online orders page covers the mailer sizes that fit the common toy formats.

Holding the Toy in Place

A toy that moves inside its box looks second-hand by the time it reaches the shelf. The usual answer is a plastic tray, and the answer here is a folded card platform instead. It is die-cut from the same kraft board with slots and tabs that hold a car, a set of blocks or a doll at the angle you want, and it folds flat for shipping.

For heavy wooden toys, a moulded pulp tray cradles the pieces and takes knocks. For sets of small parts, a card divider splits the box into cells. Paper tissue or a kraft band holds soft toys. All of these are made to the toy's measurements, so send the toy's dimensions or a photo on a ruler with your enquiry.

Where the toy has a cord, a string or small loose parts, a card platform with punched holes threads them through so nothing is lost before purchase. Our box inserts cut to your product page shows the platform, divider and tray styles with the measurements we need.

Print That Suits a Toy Brand

Kraft board prints warmly, and toy brands with a natural or wooden range usually lean into it with one or two colours and a lot of bare board. Characters and bright patterns work better on the white-outside board, where full-colour print is sharp and the kraft inside still shows when the box is opened.

Inside print is part of the same pass, so the inside of the lid can carry a play idea, a story or a simple game. Embossing a logo or a character outline on the lid adds texture with no ink. We do not add gloss film, soft-touch film or foil to these boxes; if your artwork depends on a metallic effect, a different product will serve it better.

Safety information, age grading and barcodes go on the base or back panel in black on a plain background. The free design proof shows every panel flat and the box folded so the text is checked before plates are made. Larger play sets that need a heavier board use the cardboard boxes made to your size construction with the same print rules.

Who Buys These Boxes

Wooden toy makers and importers are the largest group, because the box has to match the product. Craft kit brands use the carry-handle box. Soft toy makers use the open window box for plush animals that are safe to touch. Puzzle and game makers use the lid and base box with a card tray for the pieces.

Baby brands pack rattles and teethers in the small tuck end box with a window. Subscription toy services ship in the kraft corrugated mailer with a printed inside. Independent toy shops order a plain kraft box with a paper label for their own-brand items.

Most buyers run a shelf box and a mailer for the same toy, with matching artwork, so the product looks the same in store and at the door. The board game boxes with trays are made to the same rules for games that need a deeper box and a fitted tray.

Sizing and Testing

Measure the toy at its widest points, including any packaging it sits in, and add 5 mm per side for a snug retail box or 10 mm if a card platform will hold it. For a window, tell us which face of the toy should show and we position the aperture over it.

A paper mock-up is worth making before approving the proof. We send a dieline with every quote; print it, cut it, fold it and put the toy inside. Check that the window shows what you intend, that the box closes without pressure and that it stands up on its own on a shelf. Adjust the dimensions and we update the proof.

If you sell through a retailer with shelf-size rules, send them with the enquiry and we design the box to fit the facing. The guide to measuring your product explains the internal size calculation step by step.

Quote, Proof and Delivery

Send the toy's dimensions, the box style, the board you prefer and the number of print colours, with your artwork or a logo. A custom quote comes by email within one working day and lists the board, the ink and any insert. Minimums are low and set per job. One-colour kraft boxes start from £0.25 on larger runs.

A free design proof shows the flat dieline and the folded box with the window and insert in place. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days, flat in outer cases. Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. For a toy with a carry strap or a hang point, the toy boxes with built-in handles show the handle styles we cut.

Eco-Friendly Toy Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering Eco-Friendly toy boxes.

Which board are the toy boxes made from?

Kraft folding board for retail boxes or kraft E flute corrugated for mailers, printed with water-based inks, with no film laminate, foil or plastic window.

Do you make any claim about the box on the pack?

No. We describe the board and ink on the quote and print the wording you supply. Data sheets are available from the material supplier on request.

Is the window open or covered?

Open. We cut an aperture in the board with no film behind it, so the style suits toys that can be touched on the shelf.

How is the toy held in place?

With a folded card platform cut from the same board, a card divider for sets, or a moulded pulp tray for heavy wooden pieces.

Will bright character artwork print well?

Yes, on the white-outside board. On natural kraft, one or two colours look best.

Can the inside of the lid be used for a game?

Yes. Inside print is part of the same pass and can carry a play idea or a story.

Is a carry handle cut into the board?

Yes. A carry handle is die-cut from the board itself, with a reinforced edge for heavier sets.

Will the box stand up on a shelf?

Yes. We size the base so the box stands on its own, and we send a dieline so you can test a paper mock-up.

Can I order a shelf box and a mailer together?

Yes. Many brands run both with matching artwork so the toy looks the same in store and at the door.

Is there a minimum toy box run?

Yes, but a small one, and it is set job by job rather than from a fixed table. Tell us the box size and how many toys you need to pack and the quote prices that quantity.

What is the lead time for toy boxes?

The quote comes back within one working day and the free proof follows; once you approve it, printing and cutting take 4–7 working days and free tracked UK mainland delivery adds 2–3 working days.
