Custom Toy Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom toy boxes have two audiences: the child who points at the shelf and the adult who reads the side panel before paying. We make printed toy packaging in window, tuck end, two-piece and display styles, with inserts that hold every piece in place from the factory floor to the birthday table.

Packaging That Sells to Children and Parents

A toy box is often the first part of the product a child sees. Bright colours, a character looking out from the front and a clear picture of the toy in action make a child want it. The parent, meanwhile, turns the box over to check the age range, what is included, whether batteries are needed and how big the toy really is. Good toy packaging serves both without one getting in the way of the other.

The front panel is for excitement: the toy, its name and the fun it promises. The back and sides are for facts: contents, age guidance, any warnings you are required to show, and a few photos of the toy being played with. Keeping the two roles separate makes the box easier to read for everyone.

Toy boxes are also kept. Children store pieces in them, collectors keep them pristine, and a well-made box adds to the value of the toy for both. p2 Collectors' pieces with a sealed window are covered on our action figure boxes page.

Choosing a Toy Box Style

Window boxes let the toy be seen through a clear film panel, which is the strongest sales argument on a shelf. Tuck end cartons are the most economical choice for puzzles, small games and craft kits, and stack neatly in stockrooms. Two-piece boxes with a lift-off lid suit board games, building sets and wooden toys, because they make a sturdy storage box after opening.

Display boxes with an open front or a tear-away panel work for counter displays of small toys and pocket-money items. For large toys such as ride-ons, dolls' houses or play kitchens, printed corrugated boxes carry the weight and can still look appealing in a shop or on a doorstep.

Inserts That Keep Parts in Place

A toy that arrives with pieces loose in the bottom of the box disappoints straight away. Card inserts with cut-outs hold each piece in its own place, so the child sees the full set when the lid comes off. Ties or small clips can hold a doll or figure upright against a backing card, which is how many window boxes show the toy standing.

For wooden toys and puzzles, a tray insert with compartments keeps pieces from rubbing against each other and getting marked. Building sets often use numbered bags of parts inside a plain tray, with the box doing the selling. Tell us which approach suits your toy and we will design the insert around it, showing the layout on the proof.

Consider the unboxing too. Children do not open packaging carefully, so ties that need scissors, glued trays and tight cut-outs lead to frustration and, sometimes, broken toys. Inserts that release with a gentle pull, and a lid that lifts without tearing, make the first moment with the toy a happy one. Parents notice and appreciate packaging that is easy to open, especially on a busy birthday morning. p2 Trays for puzzles and wooden sets are shown on our custom game boxes page.

Sizing Custom Toy Boxes

Measure the toy and any accessories as they will sit in the box, not just the main item. A doll with a stand, a vehicle with a track or a game with a board and pieces all need their own space. Add the thickness of any insert and allow a small clearance so the toy goes in without forcing.

Box size affects shipping costs and shelf space, so avoid oversized boxes. Shops prefer packaging that fits their shelves without wasting space, and online buyers dislike opening a big box to find a small toy. If you sell a range, try to fit products into a few standard footprints so they stack and display neatly together.

If your toys will be sold online, check the box against courier size bands too. A few millimetres can move a parcel into a more expensive band, and a box that fits neatly inside a standard shipping carton saves on void fill and protects the printed surfaces during delivery.

Print and Finishing for Toys

Toy packaging is usually printed in full colour on white board, as bright, accurate colours matter. A gloss laminate makes colours pop and wipes clean if a sticky hand touches the box. Matt laminate gives a more grown-up look that suits wooden toys, educational products and gift ranges. Spot gloss on characters or logos adds a bit of shine without the cost of foil.

Wooden and handmade toy makers often prefer kraft board with one or two colours, which suits their natural style. Inside printing can show instructions, a story about the toy or other items in the range, giving the box a second life after opening.

Leave room on the back or side for the safety and age information you are required to display. We print the text and symbols you provide in the position you choose.

Bright printing should still be legible. Busy illustrations can swallow the product name, so keep a clear area behind the logo and age guidance where shoppers expect to find them. p3 The finishes are compared in the guide to print and finish options.

Toy Brands and Shops We Work With

Our toy boxes are ordered by independent toy brands, wooden toy makers, craft kit and science kit companies, board game publishers, plush and soft toy makers, toy shops creating own-label ranges, and online sellers launching their first product. Museum and gallery shops use them for educational toys and kits linked to their collections.

Subscription services for children use printed toy boxes too, often with a monthly activity inside and a box that can be decorated or turned into part of the play.

Collectable toy makers have particular needs, because buyers often keep the box sealed. Sharp corners, a clean window and a finish that resists scuffing matter more to them than to most, and a protective outer sleeve can help.

Lay Every Piece Out the Way a Child Should See It

The box follows the insert, and the insert follows how the toy is first seen. Lay every part out on a table the way you want it to appear when the lid lifts, photograph it from above beside a ruler, and measure the footprint and the tallest piece. Decide now whether the figure stands behind a window or the set lies flat in a tray; it changes the box shape entirely.

Send the age guidance and safety text with the artwork, because they fix how much of the back panel is left for photos. Tell us the quantity and whether the boxes ship inside an outer carton. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 for a simple carton, with the minimum set per job so a craft-fair run is realistic.

The free proof shows the dieline, the window and the insert with the pieces in position. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and the flat boxes reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery; rigid two-piece boxes arrive made up. Brands with a plush or doll line usually add our window boxes for dolls in the same layout.

Toy Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering toy boxes.

Which toy box style sells best on a shelf?

Window boxes tend to perform best because shoppers can see the toy. Where a window is not practical, a large, clear photo of the toy on the front does a similar job.

Can you print the age guidance and safety marks?

Yes, we print the age guidance, warnings and symbols you supply. Responsibility for the correct markings stays with you as the brand.

How do I stop toy parts moving in the box?

A card insert or compartment tray holds each piece in place. For dolls and figures, a backing card with ties keeps them upright behind a window.

Can the toy box be used for storage after opening?

Yes, two-piece boxes in particular make good storage. Many board game and building set brands choose them for this reason.

What finish suits wooden toys?

Kraft board or matt laminate with a simple design suits wooden toys well, giving a calm, natural look. One or two ink colours on kraft keeps the cost down too.

Are large toy boxes strong enough to ship?

Large toys use printed corrugated board, which carries the weight and handles courier networks. Tell us the toy weight so we can choose the right board.

Can I order a few boxes for a craft fair?

Yes, minimums are set per job and kept low. A small first run is a practical way to test your packaging before supplying shops.

Can the box hang on a shop peg?

Yes, a hang tab can be added to the top of tuck end and window boxes for peg displays. We use a stiffer board on the tab so it does not bend under the toy.

Can I print instructions inside the box?

Yes, inside printing works well for instructions, a story or a range showcase. It adds a second print pass, shown on your custom quote.

Do toy boxes arrive assembled?

Folding cartons and corrugated boxes arrive flat and fold up quickly. Rigid two-piece boxes arrive made up.

Can one design cover a whole range of toys?

Yes, a shared layout with a changing photo and name keeps a range consistent. If the boxes share a size, the setup cost is lower too.
