Custom Microwave Boxes With Fitted Card Inserts

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom microwave boxes are large printed corrugated cartons built to carry a heavy, awkward appliance with a glass door and a loose turntable plate. Fitted card inserts replace loose fill, so the oven sits still from the factory floor to the customer's kitchen worktop.

Why Appliances Need Purpose-Built Cartons

A microwave looks like a simple box shape, but it is a tricky item to ship. It is heavy for its size, the weight sits towards the back where the transformer and magnetron are, the door has a glass panel and a latch that can be knocked out of line, and inside there is a glass plate and a roller ring that rattle about if not packed separately. A generic carton with some loose fill rarely survives a courier network without at least one return.

A purpose-built microwave box solves that by sizing the carton to the oven and holding the oven away from the walls with shaped end caps or corner pieces. The glass plate travels in its own sleeve or pocket, the roller ring and manual are boxed in a small accessory tray, and the outer carton is printed so warehouse staff know which way is up and how to lift it safely. Our broader custom appliance boxes for kitchen goods follow the same approach for kettles, toasters and mixers.

Inserts That Hold the Oven Still

The most common method is a pair of die-cut corrugated end caps that fit over each side of the oven, creating a crumple zone between the appliance and the outer carton. Folded card corner posts add stiffness for stacking on pallets. A separate card tray on top holds the turntable plate flat in a shallow recess, often with a layer of board above and below so the glass never touches the oven body or the carton wall.

Card-based inserts keep the whole pack in board, which many retailers prefer because it is easy to flatten and handle at the customer's end. For very heavy combination ovens or built-in models with delicate trim, moulded pulp or corrugated honeycomb inserts can give extra cushioning. Tell us the oven weight and how it ships, by pallet, courier or in-store collection, and we will suggest the right level of protection.

Before the first full run, a drop test is worth doing. Pack one oven exactly as it will ship, drop the carton on each corner from waist height onto a hard floor, then open it and check the door latch, the glass and the plate. If anything has moved, we adjust the end caps or add a post before production. The custom box inserts and dividers page shows the insert styles we can cut to hold a unit still.

Sizing Custom Microwave Boxes Correctly

Start with the oven's external dimensions, including the door handle, feet and any protruding controls. Add the thickness of the end caps on each side, then the internal clearance needed for the plate tray. A typical solo microwave around 450 mm wide, 350 mm deep and 260 mm tall usually needs an outer carton roughly 520 x 420 x 320 mm once the inserts are in place.

Getting the size right matters for cost as well as protection. Couriers charge by volumetric weight on large parcels, so a carton that is slightly too generous in every direction costs more to ship every single time. Oversized boxes also let the appliance move, which defeats the inserts. If you sell several models with similar footprints, a shared outer with model-specific inserts can reduce the number of carton sizes you stock. Our guide to measuring a product for a box explains how to allow room for inserts and corner pieces.

Board Grade for Heavy Appliances

Double wall corrugated, usually a BC-flute combination, is the standard for microwaves. It resists crushing when cartons are stacked several high on a pallet and gives the outer walls enough stiffness to protect the door glass. For the heaviest built-in and combination ovens, triple wall board or a double wall carton with reinforced corners adds strength without making the pack unmanageably heavy.

Hand holes cut into the sides make lifting safer, but they weaken the panel slightly, so we reinforce them with an internal patch. Print a clear weight warning and lifting guidance on the carton if the packed weight is high enough that two people should carry it. Heavier units usually need double-wall corrugated shipping boxes rather than a single wall carton.

Printing the Outer Carton

A microwave carton is both a shipping case and, in many shops, a display box stacked on the shop floor. A full colour photo of the oven, the model name, capacity and key features on the front panel help buyers in a store pick the right box. On the sides, handling symbols, this way up arrows, fragile glass warnings and a barcode label area keep warehouses and couriers happy.

Many appliance brands print one or two colours on brown kraft for online-only lines, keeping costs down, and full colour on white-lined board for retail models. Either way, keep the barcode and serial number area on a flat, clear panel that scanners can read easily.

Keep the unpacking instructions simple too: a short line on the top flap such as lift oven out by the end caps, do not pull by the door saves damaged hinges at the customer end. Our print and finish options compared guide helps you pick between simple one-colour print and a full colour outer.

Who Orders Microwave Packaging

Small appliance brands launching their own ovens, importers repacking stock for the UK market, refurbishment companies sending reconditioned microwaves, online retailers who need stronger outers for returns, and commercial catering suppliers shipping heavy-duty units all use custom microwave boxes. The same construction suits mini ovens, air fryer ovens, toaster ovens and countertop dishwashers, which share the same mix of weight, glass and loose parts.

Refurbishers in particular benefit from a reliable box, since a reconditioned unit that arrives damaged costs twice: once for the return and again for the lost confidence of a customer who was already taking a chance on a used appliance. You can find cartons for other household products in our electronics, home and kitchen box range.

Ordering and Turnaround

Send the oven dimensions and weight, the accessories that travel with it, how it ships and your artwork, and we will reply with a custom quote by email within one working day. Large cartons with inserts are quoted per job; simpler items start from £0.25. Minimums are low and set per order, so you can trial a new carton on a first shipment before committing to volume.

A free design proof shows the carton print and insert layouts before production. The job is produced over 4–7 working days after approval and then delivered, free and tracked, to the UK mainland in 2–3 working days. Cartons and inserts arrive flat. Let us know within 10 days about any misprint or damage on the microwave boxes, and we will put it right with a reprint or refund.

Microwave Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering microwave boxes.

How do you protect the glass turntable plate?

The plate travels in its own card tray or sleeve, separated from the oven body by board above and below. It never touches the carton walls.

Is double wall board essential for a microwave carton?

For microwaves, yes. Double wall resists stacking pressure and protects the door glass. Very heavy models may need triple wall.

Can card inserts replace polystyrene?

Die-cut corrugated end caps and corner posts hold most microwaves securely. For heavy built-in models, honeycomb or moulded pulp adds cushioning.

Why does the carton size affect courier costs?

Large parcels are often charged by volume, so a carton that is too big costs more every time it ships.

Can one outer carton fit several models?

If footprints are similar, a shared outer with model-specific inserts works well and reduces stock.

Should we print a weight warning?

Yes, if the packed weight means two people should lift it. Lifting guidance and handling symbols help warehouse staff.

Can the carton double as a shop display box?

Yes, full colour print on white-lined board shows the oven and its features clearly on a shop floor.

Do the inserts suit air fryer ovens too?

The same construction suits toaster ovens, air fryer ovens and similar countertop appliances, sized to each model.

We refurbish microwaves. Can you supply plain cartons with our logo?

Yes, one or two colour print on kraft keeps costs sensible while protecting reconditioned units properly.

When would cartons arrive for our first shipment?

Count 4–7 working days from approval to produce the microwave boxes, plus 2–3 working days for free tracked delivery on the UK mainland.

What if cartons arrive crushed?

Get in touch within 10 days and we will either reprint or refund the affected microwave boxes.
