What a Bulb Box Has to Do

Buying a light bulb is a surprisingly technical decision. The customer needs the right cap, the right shape, a brightness that suits the room and a colour that matches the other bulbs in the fitting. Most of them are standing in an aisle or scrolling a product page with the old bulb in their hand, comparing numbers.

A good LED bulb box answers those questions immediately. The front shows the bulb shape and the key details in large type; the sides and back carry the full specification, the energy information and any dimmable or smart features. If the box is clear, the customer buys with confidence and is less likely to return the bulb because it was the wrong one.

The box also has a practical job. LED bulbs may be sturdier than old filament bulbs, but glass versions still crack, and the base pins on bayonet caps bend if they take a knock. A snug box with a simple insert keeps the bulb from moving in a wholesale carton or a delivery van.

There is also the outer case to think about. Bulbs usually travel to shops in shipper cartons of a set quantity, and the individual boxes should fill that case neatly with no gaps. When we size your bulb box, we can check how many fit a standard outer carton so that pallets, shelves and boxes all work together.

Information to Plan on LED Bulb Boxes

Lighting packaging carries more detail than most retail boxes, so plan the panels before you think about colours. Typical content includes: Cap type, lumens, equivalent wattage, colour temperature, dimmability, beam angle, lifespan, energy label, barcode and safety marks; the smaller light bulb boxes for standard caps show how we fit the same list on a 40 mm face.

  • Cap type, shown as a clear icon: bayonet, Edison screw, small screw, GU10 or similar.
  • Brightness in lumens and the equivalent old-style wattage, which many shoppers still look for.
  • Colour temperature, often shown on a warm-to-cool scale with the chosen point highlighted.
  • Dimmable or non-dimmable, smart features and any app or hub requirements.
  • Bulb shape and size, such as GLS, candle, golf ball, globe or reflector.
  • Barcode, product code, your business address and the energy label information your product requires.

Box Styles for Lighting

Most bulb boxes are straight tuck end cartons: tall, square in section and closed with a tuck flap at each end. They stack neatly on shelves and pack efficiently into outer cases. Reverse tuck styles, where the flaps close from opposite sides, are a little quicker to pack by hand.

For retail pegs, add a hang tab with a euro-slot cut-out to the top of the box, so the bulb can hang on a display bar. A window panel lets shoppers see the bulb's shape and filament style, which matters a great deal for decorative vintage-style bulbs.

Multi-pack boxes hold two, three or more bulbs side by side with a card divider between them. They suit bulk buys for a whole room and are popular with online sellers, because one larger box ships more neatly than several loose singles.

Sizing and Inserts

Size the box to the bulb's widest point and full length including the cap, then add a little clearance so it slides in without catching. A standard GLS bulb with a bayonet cap needs a different box from a GU10 spotlight or a large globe, so each shape in your range will usually need its own size.

Inside, a simple folded card insert can cradle the cap end and keep the glass away from the walls of the box. For decorative filament bulbs with clear glass, a two-point insert that grips the cap and supports the tip offers better protection. Corrugated inserts are worth considering for larger globes.

If you sell a full range, aim for a small family of box sizes rather than one per product. Grouping similar bulbs into the same box size reduces the number of designs and makes your shelf presence more uniform.

Print, Colour Coding and Finish

Lighting brands often use colour coding to help shoppers navigate a range: a band of one colour for warm white, another for cool white, another for daylight, or a different colour per cap type. Keep it consistent across every box so customers learn the system.

White folding boxboard gives crisp, bright print, which suits most lighting brands. Kraft board is popular for vintage and decorative filament bulbs, with black or gold print giving a craft look. A gloss or matt varnish protects the print from scuffing on shelves, and a spot gloss on the bulb image can make it pop.

Keep text sizes generous for the key specifications. Shoppers often compare boxes in poor light or at arm's length, so the cap type and brightness should be readable without picking the box up.

Who Orders Bulb Packaging

Our bulb boxes are used by lighting brands, electrical wholesalers launching own-label ranges, online lighting retailers, interior designers selling decorative bulbs, smart home companies and hardware shops. Car and specialist bulb sellers use similar cartons sized for their own products.

Wholesalers like a consistent box family because it makes picking easier in the warehouse. Online sellers find that a clear, well-designed box reduces questions from customers and makes product photos look more professional.

Installers and electricians who supply bulbs as part of a fit-out sometimes order a plain branded box for their own range, so every bulb left on site carries their name and a number to call when the next job comes up. Smart home brands tend to keep the same carton family across their speaker and smart device boxes so the shelf reads as one range.

Fix the Panel Layout Before Choosing a Carton Size

A bulb box is mostly information, so draft the panels first and the carton second. Put the shape, cap, lumens and colour temperature on the front at a size readable from a shelf, the energy label and barcode on the back, and the technical table on a side. If the text will not fit at a legible size on the smallest carton, the carton grows, not the type. Then measure the bulb at its widest point and its full length with the cap, add 4 mm, and add the depth of any cradle insert. One carton per shape, not per wattage, with a sticker or a colour band marking the variant. Car bulbs with their own fitting codes follow the same plan on our car light bulb boxes with a hang tab.

Email the bulb sizes, the panel text, the style and quantity per design, and a custom quote comes back within one working day, followed by a free design proof showing every panel flat. Boxes are made in 4 to 7 working days once approved and delivered flat, free and tracked, on the UK mainland in 2 to 3 days. Boxes with a wrong specification or a print fault reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

LED Bulb Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering LED bulb boxes.

What details should go on the front of an LED bulb box?

Shoppers look first for the cap type, brightness and colour temperature. Put those in large type on the front with a clear bulb image, and move the full specification to the side and back panels.

Do LED bulbs need an insert?

Small LED bulbs in a snug box often do not. Glass filament bulbs and large globes benefit from a card insert that holds the cap and keeps the glass off the box walls.

Can you add a hang tab for peg displays?

Yes, a hang tab with a euro-slot cut-out at the top of the box lets it hang on standard retail display bars.

How do I show colour temperature clearly?

A warm-to-cool scale with your bulb's point highlighted is easy to read. Pairing it with a consistent colour band per temperature helps shoppers find the right bulb quickly.

Can one box size fit several bulbs?

Similar bulbs can share a size. Grouping your range into a small family of box sizes keeps design and stock simple, though very different shapes will each need their own size.

Will kraft board suit decorative bulbs?

Yes, kraft with black or gold print is a popular look for vintage filament bulbs and pairs well with a window to show the filament.

Can I order boxes for three-packs?

Yes, multi-pack boxes with card dividers hold two or more bulbs side by side. They are popular for bulk buys and online orders.

Where should the energy information go?

Usually on a side or back panel. Tell us the information your product needs to show and we will leave a correctly sized area for it in the layout.

How long will my bulb boxes take?

Production takes 4 to 7 working days from proof approval, followed by free tracked UK mainland delivery in 2 to 3 working days.

How much do LED bulb boxes cost?

Simple printed boxes start from £0.25 each, with the final price depending on size, quantity and finish. You will receive a custom quote by email within one working day.

What if a specification is printed wrongly?

Please check the free proof carefully. If what we print differs from the approved proof, or boxes arrive damaged, tell us within 10 days and we will reprint or refund.
