Custom Light Bulb Boxes With Protective Dividers
Custom light bulb boxes hold glass bulbs still with die-cut dividers, so they reach the shelf or the customer's door without a cracked envelope or a loose cap. We size them to your bulb shape and print the outside with the specification panel shoppers look for.

Glass, Caps and Why Bulbs Break
A bulb is a thin glass envelope fixed to a metal or plastic cap. It is strong enough in use but surprisingly vulnerable in a box. If the bulb can slide, the glass knocks against the walls every time the box is handled. If it can rotate, the cap can twist against the glass and loosen. Most breakages happen this way rather than through crushing, which is why the inside of a bulb box matters more than the board thickness.
A good light bulb box suspends the glass. The cap sits in a collar or a slot, and the widest part of the envelope is cradled so it never touches the outer walls. With that arrangement, even a decorative filament bulb with long, delicate internal wires can be posted or carried home in a shopping bag without damage. Energy-saving ranges with long spec tables are covered on our LED bulb boxes with spec panels page.
Insert Designs for Different Bulb Shapes
The insert is shaped around the bulb profile. Standard GLS and candle bulbs fit a simple two-piece cross divider or a collar insert that grips the neck. Globe bulbs need a wider cradle at mid-height. Long tubular and squirrel-cage filament bulbs are best held at both ends so the middle never takes a knock. Spotlight reflectors such as GU10 shapes sit face-down in a shallow cut-out that protects the lens.
Multipacks add another layer. Two, three or four bulbs in one carton are separated by a folding card grid so each one has its own cell. A cell-per-bulb layout costs a little more board than a single open space, but it reduces breakage and makes the pack look orderly when opened. The collar that holds the cap is one of our card collar inserts for bulbs, cut to the cap size.
- Neck collars for GLS, candle and golf ball shapes
- Mid-height cradles for globes

Box Styles for Shelves, Pegs and Parcels
Most bulbs are sold in tall tuck-end cartons with a hang tab, so they can sit on a shelf or hang on a peg rail. The front panel faces the shopper and the side panels carry technical details. Tall, narrow cartons make the most of shelf space; squarer cartons suit globe bulbs and premium decorative ranges.
Window cartons are popular for filament bulbs because the internal wires are part of the appeal. A die-cut window on the front, backed with clear film, lets shoppers see the filament pattern without opening the pack. For high-end designer bulbs, a sleeve over a tray or a small rigid box gives a gift-like presentation that suits homeware shops rather than DIY stores.
Lighting shops and online retailers often stock bulbs from several suppliers but sell under their own brand. Custom boxes let a retailer present a mixed range consistently: one design, colour-coded by cap type or colour temperature, with the shop's name across every pack. That helps customers find the right replacement bulb again next time.
If you ship bulbs in mixed orders, consider a box size that fits snugly into your standard shipping carton. A row of bulb boxes packed tight in an outer carton travels far better than loose boxes surrounded by void fill.
Printing the Specification Panel
Lighting customers compare boxes on a handful of details: brightness, colour temperature, cap type, wattage equivalent, dimmability and smart features. These need to be clear, consistent across your range and easy to find. Many brands use an icon row on the front and a full table on the side or back, so the box answers questions without the shopper needing to look anything up.
Regulatory markings and energy information must follow the rules for your product, and the responsibility for that content sits with the brand. We print exactly what you supply and leave space where you ask, for example a white panel for a label that changes between batches. The proof shows every panel at actual size so you can check the small print. Specification panels need fine text in full colour on a smooth white board to stay legible.
Smart Bulbs and Connected Lighting
Smart bulbs carry a little more inside the box: a quick-start leaflet, sometimes a QR code card and occasionally a small remote or hub. The insert can include a slot or a shallow tray for these extras, which keeps the bulb protected and the leaflet flat. Opening a smart bulb box should feel like opening a gadget, so a lift-off lid or a sleeve with a printed interior suits these ranges.
Printing the app name and compatibility icons on the front panel helps shoppers avoid buying a bulb that will not work with their system, which in turn reduces returns.
Smart bulbs are also more expensive than standard ones, so the box has to justify the price on the shelf. Clean product photography, a short line on what the bulb can do and a clear note of what else is needed, such as a hub or a particular voice assistant, give the shopper confidence to pay more. A slightly heavier board and a tighter-fitting insert reinforce that impression the moment the box is picked up. Hubs, remotes and cables for smart lighting often share a charger box for smart home kits in the same style.
Board and Finishes for Lighting Packaging
Folding carton board is the standard choice for retail bulb packaging. White board shows product photography and colour-temperature graphics accurately. Kraft board suits vintage and decorative filament ranges, often printed in one or two dark inks with a simple drawing of the bulb. For bulbs sold mainly online, a printed E-flute corrugated carton offers extra protection without needing an outer box.
A matt varnish keeps the box looking calm and premium. Gloss brightens product photography. Foil on the brand name or the bulb outline adds a little sparkle, which is fitting for a product that is all about light.
If your range spans warm and cool colour temperatures, a colour band along the top edge of each box helps staff restock shelves quickly and helps customers pick the right one at a glance. Our board guide has kraft and white board explained for vintage and modern ranges.
Send One Bulb Per Shape and Tell Us the Cap Type
Bulb boxes are built around the collar that grips the cap, so the most useful thing to send is one bulb of each shape you sell, or a drawing with the cap type, the widest glass diameter and the overall height. Say how many bulbs go in a pack, because multipacks use a card grid with a cell per bulb, and whether the box hangs on a peg, stands on a shelf or is posted singly in a mailer. Filament and decorative bulbs sell on sight, so plan a front window backed with film; smart bulbs need a slot for a leaflet or a QR card. Keep the specification panel exactly as your regulatory file supplies it, and for connected kits consider a charger box for the hub and cables in matching artwork.
Send the bulb dimensions or samples, the cap type, the count per pack, the box style and artwork, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day. The free proof shows the box and insert drawn to scale. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval, boxes arrive flat by tracked courier to UK mainland addresses, and misprinted or damaged boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Light Bulb Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering light bulb boxes.
How do you stop a bulb rattling in the box?
We hold the bulb by the neck or cap with a card collar, and cradle the widest part of the glass so it never touches the walls. The insert is cut to your bulb profile from a sample or a drawing.
Can one box size fit several bulb shapes?
Sometimes, by changing only the insert. A tall carton with different collar inserts can hold several cap types of similar height, which keeps the outer design consistent.
What is the best way to show a filament bulb?
A front window backed with clear film shows the filament pattern clearly. The bulb is still held by an insert, so the window does not reduce protection.
Can you print energy and specification details?
Yes, we print the panel exactly as you supply it. The content of regulatory information is your responsibility, and we leave clear space for any labels you add.
Do you make multipack bulb boxes?
Yes. Multipacks use a card grid so each bulb sits in its own cell. Packs of two to four are common, and spotlights are often packed in fours.
Is kraft board strong enough for bulbs?
Kraft folding board is as strong as white board of the same weight. It suits vintage and decorative ranges and protects well when combined with a fitted insert.
Can I post a bulb box without an outer carton?
A folding carton is designed for retail, so it is best posted inside a shipper. If you send bulbs singly, a printed corrugated carton with an insert can travel on its own.
Can there be a hang tab for peg display?
A Euro-slot hang tab can be built into the top of the carton for peg rails. It folds flat for shelf display if the retailer prefers.
How do I send you my bulb shape?
A drawing with dimensions is fine, though a physical sample is best for unusual shapes. We use it to cut the insert precisely.
Can smart bulb boxes hold a leaflet and remote?
Yes. The insert can include a shallow tray or slot for a leaflet, a QR card or a small remote, keeping everything in place and the bulb protected.
What if some bulb boxes arrive damaged?
Report misprints or damage within 10 days of delivery and we will reprint or refund the affected boxes.
