Custom Lamp Boxes With Fitted Inserts
Custom lamp boxes are corrugated cartons with internal supports that keep a lamp base, its stem and its shade apart so nothing knocks or crushes in transit. We make them for table lamps, floor lamps and pendants, printed with your brand so the unboxing feels as considered as the design.

Why Lamps Are Awkward to Pack
A lamp is three problems in one box. The base is often heavy, sometimes ceramic or glass, and wants to slide. The stem or arm is long and thin, with joints and a cable that can bend. The shade is light, wide and easily dented, and a single crease in a fabric or paper shade is enough for a customer to send it back. Put all three loose in a carton with some paper and the heavy part will find the fragile one on the first corner a courier takes too quickly.
A good lamp box separates those parts and fixes each one in place. The base sits in a cradle or a locked compartment at the bottom, the stem is held in a channel so it cannot swing, and the shade either nests in its own section or ships in a second inner carton. Done well, the box opens in a logical order and the customer can assemble the lamp without hunting through packing material. Larger kitchen items with the same three-part problem are handled on our appliance boxes with internal supports page.
Box Structures for Different Lamps
Table lamps with a separate shade usually go into a tall single carton with a horizontal divider: base and stem below, shade above. Lamps with a fixed head, such as desk and task lamps, can lie flat in a lower box with a die cut insert that follows their outline. Floor lamps travel in long boxes, often with the pole in sections and the base in a separate end compartment. Pendants and ceiling lights need deep cradles for the shade and a small pocket for the ceiling rose and fittings.
- Tall single-wall or double-wall cartons with a shade compartment
- Low flat boxes with a contour-cut insert for desk lamps
- Long boxes with end compartments for floor lamps
- Shade boxes that ship separately or nest inside the main carton
- Small accessory trays for bulbs, plugs and fittings

Inserts That Do the Protecting
The insert is where most of the design time goes. Corrugated inserts are cut and folded to form walls, cradles and channels; they are strong, quick to pack and print in the same colours as the box. Foam inserts cut to the shape of the base give a tighter grip on heavy or glossy bases that might slip on card. Moulded pulp is another option for bases, and it can be pressed to a close shape when quantities justify it.
For shades, the trick is to support the rim rather than the fabric. A card ring or collar that holds the top and bottom frame stops the shade from moving, while the soft surface touches nothing. We sketch the insert layout with you before cutting so the packing order is clear.
Packing speed matters too if you ship many lamps a week. An insert that folds flat and pops into the box in one movement saves real time over a loose collection of card pieces. We design inserts so the person packing can see exactly where each part goes, often with a small printed label on each section. Heavy stone or ceramic bases that need the strongest outer go in double wall corrugated cartons around the insert.
Board Grades and Strength
Most table lamp boxes work in single-wall B-flute or E-flute corrugated. Heavy ceramic or stone bases, and anything going through a parcel network rather than a pallet, are safer in double-wall board. Lighter pendants with paper shades may be fine in a printed folding carton inside a plain shipping box, which keeps the retail box crisp and lets the outer one take the knocks.
Tell us the weight of the assembled lamp and how it will travel. That lets us suggest the right board and flute, and it avoids paying for strength you do not need.
Edge crush strength matters more than thickness alone for tall lamp boxes, because they are often stacked in a warehouse with heavier boxes on top. A taller carton with thin walls can bow outwards under that load, which squeezes the shade compartment. If your lamps are palletised, tell us the stacking height and we will choose a board that keeps its shape.
Printing a Lamp Box That Sells
Lamps are often bought online, so the box may be the first physical contact a customer has with your brand. White-lined corrugated takes full colour print well, which suits photography of the lamp on the side panels. Kraft corrugated with a one or two-colour line drawing has a crafted look that suits homeware studios. Printing the inside lid with a short assembly note or a thank you saves a separate leaflet.
Shops selling lamps from the floor appreciate clear product information on the end panel: model name, bulb fitting, finish and a small image. That way stock can be found quickly in a stockroom without opening boxes.
Handling marks are worth printing too. A clear this-way-up arrow and a fragile note on two sides help couriers and warehouse staff treat the box with care, and they can be designed to sit neatly with your branding rather than as afterthought stickers.
Measuring a Lamp for Its Box
Measure each part at its widest point: the base footprint and height, the stem length with any arm extended or folded as it will ship, and the shade diameter at top and bottom along with its height. Add the packaging space you want around each part, usually 10 to 20 mm for card inserts. If your lamp ships partly assembled, measure it in that state. When in doubt, send us a sample and we will measure it ourselves.
Designers launching a family of lamps often share one outer box size across two or three models, swapping only the insert. That keeps stock simpler and reduces the number of box designs to approve. Our guide to measuring awkward products covers stems, arms and shades.
Weigh the Assembled Lamp Before Anything Else
The number that decides a lamp box is the weight of the assembled lamp, because it chooses the flute, says if the base needs foam rather than card, and tells us how the box will behave stacked on a pallet. Send that weight with three sets of measurements: the base footprint and height, the stem as it ships, folded or extended, and the shade diameter at top and bottom with its height. Say how the lamp travels, by parcel courier or on a pallet, and whether the shade goes in the same carton or its own.
Send every model in the range, since one outer with a different insert per lamp is often cheaper. A custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with low minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows the box and the insert layout with the packing order marked. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, taking 2–3 working days. Boxes that arrive crushed or misprinted are reprinted or refunded when reported within 10 days. Bulbs supplied with the lamp can be boxed alongside in LED bulb boxes with a cradle.

Lamp Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering lamp boxes.
Should the lampshade ship in the same box as the base?
It can, using a divider and a shade support ring. For large or delicate shades, a separate inner shade box nested in the carton gives extra protection. We will suggest the safer option once we see the sizes.
How do you stop a heavy ceramic base from moving?
A foam insert or a tight corrugated cradle holds the base in place. Double-wall board around it adds strength. Tell us the base weight so we can plan the insert.
Can a floor lamp go into one box?
Yes, in a long box with end compartments. Most floor lamps ship with the pole in sections and the base held separately within the same carton.
Do lamp boxes need to be double-wall?
Not always. Light lamps are fine in single-wall board, while heavy bases and parcel shipping usually need double-wall. We recommend a grade based on weight and route.
Can you print assembly instructions inside the lid?
Yes. A short printed guide inside the lid replaces a loose leaflet and is always found. Keep it to a few simple steps and diagrams for clarity.
Can one box size fit several lamp models?
Often it can, with a different insert for each model. It reduces stock and design work. We check the fit for each lamp before you approve.
Where should the bulb and plug go?
A small accessory tray or pocket in the insert keeps bulbs, plugs and fittings together. Bulbs should sit away from the heavy base.
Will a printed box survive courier handling?
Full colour print on white-lined corrugated handles normal transit, though corners can scuff. For high-end retail boxes, a plain outer shipper keeps the printed box pristine.
Can I send you a lamp to measure?
Yes, a sample gives the most accurate fit, especially for unusual shapes. We measure it, build the insert and show you the layout on your proof.
What happens if a lamp box arrives damaged?
Report any damage or misprints within 10 days with photos, and we reprint or refund the affected boxes. Check the insert folds on a few boxes from each bundle when the delivery lands.
How long before I can ship my new lamp?
Allow 4–7 working days for production after proof approval and 2–3 working days for free tracked UK mainland delivery. Inserts with foam can take the longer end of that.
