Custom Blanket Boxes for Throws and Baby Blankets
Custom blanket boxes are wide, shallow boxes that hold a folded or rolled throw flat and neat, often with a window so the colour and texture show. We make them for homeware brands, textile makers and baby gift sellers, printed and sized to your blankets.

Why Blankets Are Awkward to Package
A blanket is soft, springy and bulky for its weight. Push it into a bag and it bunches; fold it into a carton that is too deep and it slumps to one side; squash it into one that is too shallow and it bulges at the lid. Textured knits and chunky throws are worse, because they spring back as soon as they are folded. Then there is the selling problem: much of a blanket's appeal is in the feel and the pattern, and a closed opaque box hides both.
A well-designed blanket box solves these problems with the right proportions. It is wide enough for the blanket to lie flat when folded, shallow enough that the blanket fills the depth and cannot slide, and often windowed so shoppers can see the texture without opening anything.
There is also the question of creasing. A blanket packed tightly for weeks can take on deep fold lines that do not shake out easily, especially fine wool and cotton weaves. A box with the right depth holds the blanket gently rather than compressing it, and a sheet of tissue between folds helps further. Customers notice when a throw comes out smooth and ready to drape over a sofa. p2 Clothing brands with the same bulk problem use our shallow gift boxes for folded apparel.
Styles That Suit Throws and Blankets
We make blanket boxes in several constructions, depending on where they are sold: in shops, posted to customers or given as gifts. p0 The postal version is close to our corrugated boxes for textiles, which take a label directly.
- Lid and base box: the classic gift box, with the lid lifting off to reveal the folded blanket
- Window lid box: the same style with a clear panel so the colour and texture show on a shelf
- Mailer box: a folding corrugated box with a printed outside that can be posted without an outer carton
- Sleeve and tray: a printed sleeve slides over a tray, nice for knitted throws and gift sets
- Cylinder or square box for rolled blankets tied with a ribbon

Folded or Rolled: Sizing Custom Blanket Boxes
Decide first how you present the blanket. Folded flat in a neat rectangle is the most common, and it gives the largest printable lid. Rolled and tied with a band is popular for baby blankets and lighter throws, especially in cylinders or square tubes that display well upright. Folded into a cushion-like square works for chunky knits.
Fold or roll your blanket as you will pack it, press it lightly to remove the air, and measure the length, width and height. Chunky knits spring back, so measure after they have been left folded for an hour or so. We add a small clearance and size the box so the blanket fills it snugly. If you sell several sizes, such as a baby blanket, a lap throw and a bed throw, we can design a set of boxes that share the same look. p1 The measuring guide for soft products covers rolled and folded items.
Materials and Windows
For retail gift boxes, folding boxboard or rigid board wrapped in printed paper give the crispest look. Rigid boxes feel substantial and are often kept for storage, which suits premium wool, cashmere and heirloom baby blankets. For blankets sold online, a corrugated mailer protects against crushing in the post and can still be printed inside and out.
A window works wonderfully on blanket boxes because texture is such a big part of the sale. A large window in the lid shows a cable knit or a woven pattern; a small cut-out shaped like a heart, a star or your logo adds charm to a baby gift box. We place the window over the most attractive part of the folded blanket and keep enough board around it so the lid stays rigid.
Inside the box, a fold of printed tissue around the blanket protects it from dust and adds a moment of anticipation when the lid comes off. For windowed boxes, the tissue can be folded back behind the window so the blanket still shows. A small card insert with a slot can hold a care card or a personalised gift note neatly in the lid.
Print and Finishing Touches
Homeware brands tend to favour calm designs: a soft colour or kraft board, a simple logo, and a short description of the fabric and care. Baby blanket sellers often add a gentle illustration or a pattern that matches the blanket. Full colour printing handles photographs and watercolour artwork; one or two colours on kraft keeps the look natural and the price down.
Matt and soft-touch laminates suit the tactile nature of the product. A foil logo or embossed brand name on the lid adds a gift quality. Ribbon ties, belly bands and printed tissue paper inside the box complete the presentation, and a care card slipped in with the blanket answers the question every customer has about washing it.
Sellers Who Use Blanket Boxes
Our blanket boxes go to homeware brands selling throws online and through interiors stores, independent weavers and knitters, baby gift brands and nursery shops, personalised gift sellers who embroider names on baby blankets, wedding and corporate gifting companies, and hotel and holiday let businesses selling branded throws to guests. Some textile mills use them for sample sets sent to trade buyers.
Personalised gift sellers have a particular need. Each blanket is embroidered with a name, so the box must arrive generic and be personalised at packing. A plain lid with a printed brand mark and space for a name label, or a ribbon tag, lets them keep one stock box for every order rather than printing names on packaging. p1 Baby gift sellers often add a matching gift box for baby clothes so a set looks like one family.
Fold It, Leave It an Hour, Then Measure
Blankets spring back, so a measurement taken the moment you fold one is too small. Fold or roll the blanket exactly as it will be packed, lay a book on top for an hour, then measure length, width and height. Do this for the thickest product in the range, because a chunky knit at 120 mm deep and a cotton throw at 60 mm cannot share a box without one of them slumping.
Decide window or no window next, as it fixes the lid artwork. Then send the figures, the number of sizes and roughly how many you sell a month; we price rigid and folding versions side by side so you can compare. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, from £0.25 for a folding carton, with the minimum set per job.
The free proof shows the artwork and the window position on the flat box. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval; folding styles arrive flat and rigid boxes nested, free and tracked to UK mainland addresses. Brands that also sell cushions or bedding sets tend to order larger boxes for bedding sets in the same look.

Blanket Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering blanket boxes.
Should I fold or roll my blanket in the box?
Folding gives a large flat lid and suits most throws. Rolling suits baby blankets and lighter throws and looks lovely in a square tube or cylinder.
How do I measure a chunky knit throw?
Fold it as you will pack it, leave it for an hour so it settles, press lightly and then measure. Chunky knits spring back, so measuring straight after folding gives a size that is too small.
Can a blanket box have a window large enough to show the weave?
Yes. A window of around 150 x 100 mm shows texture and colour clearly, and a small shaped cut-out suits baby gift boxes. We position it over the neatest part of the folded blanket on the proof.
Rigid box or folding carton?
Rigid boxes feel more premium and are often kept, which suits wool, cashmere and heirloom pieces. Folding cartons cost less and store flat.
Can I post a blanket box without an outer carton?
A printed corrugated mailer can be posted directly. Rigid and folding retail boxes should go inside a shipping box.
Can you add ribbon ties?
Yes. Ribbon ties, belly bands and printed tissue can all be added for a gift presentation.
What should I print on a blanket box?
Your brand, the fabric, the size and care guidance are the essentials. Many sellers add a line about how the blanket is made.
Can one design cover several blanket sizes?
Yes. We design a set of boxes sharing the same artwork in different sizes, each with its own proof.
Can I add a personalised name to each box?
Personalised names are best added with a printed label or a ribbon tag, so you can order the boxes in bulk and personalise each one as you pack. A blank panel on the lid is left in the artwork for the label.
How soon can I pack orders in the new boxes?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the free proof, then delivery is 2 to 3 working days, free and tracked, to UK mainland addresses. Folding styles arrive flat and rigid boxes arrive nested.
