Custom Comic Book Boxes
Custom comic book boxes are the long, sturdy corrugated boxes collectors and shops use to store bagged and boarded comics upright. We make them to fit your bags and boards, with lids, hand holes and divider cards, printed with your shop name or left plain.

Why Collectors and Shops Store Comics Upright
Comics are thin, floppy and easily damaged by the weight of other comics. Stacked flat in a pile, the ones at the bottom slowly take on every bump of the books above them, and spines roll over time. Stored upright in a box sized to their bags and boards, each comic supports its neighbours and stays flat and square.
A dedicated comic box also makes a collection usable. Books can be filed by title and issue number, flicked through with a fingertip and pulled out without disturbing the rest. For a shop, the same box becomes a browsing bin on the counter or a back-issue rack under a table at a convention.
The details are what separate a proper comic box from a generic archive box. The inside width must match a bagged and boarded comic with just enough slack to slide one in, the walls must be strong enough to carry a full load, and the lid must lift off easily while still keeping dust out.
Comic shops are our main customers, ordering printed boxes to sell alongside bags and boards and to store their own back issues. Collectors with large collections order plain boxes in bulk, and dealers who trade at conventions order display bins and drawer boxes to make their stands easy to browse.
We also make boxes for trading card shops, which store long rows of toploaders and card sleeves in similar formats, and for record shops and vintage paper dealers who need sturdy upright storage for flat items. Libraries and schools with graphic novel collections order magazine-size boxes for their larger titles. p4 Larger flat items go in our magazine sleeves and storage range, which uses the same upright approach.
Long, Short and Magazine Formats
Comic boxes come in a few standard shapes, and most collections need more than one.
If you sell boxes as well as using them, a range of sizes sharing one printed design looks great on a shop wall and encourages customers to buy matching boxes as their collection grows. p1 Shops that also sell graphic novels in hardback may want our printed boxes for books for the larger formats.
- Long box: the traditional choice for large collections, holding a long row of comics in a single box.
- Short box: half the length, lighter to lift when full and easier to fit on a bookshelf.
- Magazine box: wider and taller for magazine-size comics, annuals and larger-format titles.
- Drawer box: a sleeve with a pull-out drawer that lets boxes stack without lifting the top one off.
- Graded slab box: a narrower, deeper box for encased graded comics stored on edge.
- Display bin: a low-sided box with a printed header, used for browsing at fairs and on shop counters.

Board Strength and Construction
A full long box is surprisingly heavy, so board choice matters. Most comic boxes are made from single-wall corrugated board, which is light, strong for its weight and easy to fold. For boxes that will be stacked several high in a stockroom or carried to and from conventions, a double-wall board gives noticeably stiffer walls and a base that will not bow.
The best boxes use a double-thickness construction on the long walls, where the board is folded back on itself during assembly. This adds strength exactly where the load sits without making the whole box heavier. Corners are locked with tabs rather than staples, so there is nothing sharp to snag a comic bag.
Hand holes cut into each end make lifting much easier, but they also let dust in. We can make them as push-out flaps that stay closed until you need them, or leave them open if the boxes will live on a shelf.
Printed Comic Book Boxes for Shops and Brands
A plain brown comic box does the job, but a printed one turns storage into branding. Comic shops print their logo and website on the lid and ends, so every box that leaves the shop advertises them on a collector's shelf. Publishers and convention organisers print event artwork or character art as merchandise that fans collect.
On corrugated board, bold artwork with strong colours and clear outlines prints best. For photographic or very detailed art, a printed paper label laminated to the board gives a sharper result. The ends of the box are particularly useful for a label area where collectors can write the titles and issue numbers inside.
Divider cards are worth adding to any order. Printed with your shop name and a large tab, they help customers organise their collections and keep your brand in front of them every time they file a new issue.
Sizing to Your Bags and Boards
The key measurement is the bagged and boarded comic, not the comic itself. Current-size, silver-age and golden-age comics are all slightly different widths, and their bags and boards vary to match. If your box is sized for current comics, older, wider books will not fit; if it is sized for golden-age, current comics will lean.
Measure the bag width and the height of the board, then add a small allowance so books slide in without scraping. Tell us which era of comic you mainly store and if you want one box that fits everything or separate boxes for each size. For mixed collections, a slightly wider box with dividers is often the most practical answer.
Height matters as well as width. The lid should close without pressing on the top edge of the bags, especially if you use resealable flaps that add a few millimetres. A box that is slightly too short will bend the top of every book over time, which is exactly the damage a comic box is meant to prevent. p2 The guide to measuring a product for a box explains how to allow for bag flaps.
Organising a Collection That Keeps Growing
Collections rarely stay the size they started. The simplest system is to give each box a range of titles or publishers, leave some empty space at the end for new issues, and label the end panel clearly. When a box fills, split it into two rather than squeezing more in, because overpacked boxes are where spines and corners get damaged.
Divider cards make this much easier. A card at the start of each title, with the name written on a tall tab, lets you find any issue in seconds. For shops, the same idea works for back-issue bins, with dividers marked by title or price band so customers can browse without asking.
Store full boxes off the floor, away from outside walls and out of direct sunlight. Lofts and garages often swing between hot and damp, which is hard on paper, so a spare bedroom or a dry cupboard is a far better home for a collection you care about. p2 Long-term storage for valuable issues is better in our archival boxes for books and paper.
Measure a Bagged and Boarded Issue, Not the Comic
Comic boxes are sized to the bag and board, and the width of a current-size bag is not the width of a silver-age bag. Take a boarded comic from each era you store, measure the bag width and the board height, and tell us the proportion of each. If most of the collection is current and a few older books need a home, one slightly wider box with dividers is usually cheaper than two sizes.
Shops ordering printed boxes should also decide now whether the lid or the end panel carries the logo; the end is what shows on a shelf or under a convention table. The custom quote arrives by email within one working day, with the minimum set per job, so a shop can print a first run of fifty.
Printed orders get a free proof before anything is cut. Production takes 4 to 7 working days once you approve it, and the flat boxes reach UK mainland addresses by free tracked delivery. Collectors who bag their own books usually order clear mylar bags for comics alongside so the box is sized to the bag they actually use.

Comic Book Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering comic book boxes.
What is the difference between a long box and a short box?
A long box holds roughly twice as many comics as a short box. Short boxes are lighter when full and easier to lift and shelve, which many collectors prefer.
Will older comics fit in a standard comic box?
Older silver-age and golden-age comics are wider than current comics, so their bags and boards need a wider box. Tell us which sizes you store and we will size the box to fit.
How strong are the boxes when full?
Single-wall boxes with double-thickness walls handle a full load well. If you stack boxes very high or carry them to events, ask for double-wall board.
Can you print our shop logo on the lid?
Yes, we print logos on lids and ends. Many shops add their website and a writable label area so collectors can note titles on each box.
Do the boxes come with hand holes?
We can cut open hand holes or push-out handles that stay closed until needed. Push-outs help keep dust out when boxes sit on shelves.
Can I get boxes for magazine-size comics?
Yes, magazine boxes are wider and taller to fit larger formats, annuals and some graphic novels. Measure a bagged magazine so we match the bag width.
What are drawer boxes?
A drawer box has an outer sleeve and a pull-out drawer, so you can stack several and still reach the bottom one without lifting the others. They suit shops with limited floor space.
Do comic boxes arrive flat or made up?
They arrive flat in bundles and fold into shape without tape or glue. The first one takes a couple of minutes; after that a box goes together in under a minute, which is why shops keep a stack flat behind the counter.
Can I order printed divider cards?
Yes, divider cards with your logo and a tab for titles are popular with shops. They help customers organise their collections.
Do you make boxes for graded comics?
We make narrower, deeper boxes designed for encased graded comics stored upright. Send us your slab measurements to confirm the fit.
How do I report damaged boxes?
Contact us within 10 days of delivery with photos. We will reprint the damaged boxes or refund them.
