Custom Blister Pill Boxes Sized to Your Strips
Custom blister pill boxes are slim folding cartons that hold one or more foil strips of tablets or capsules, with room inside for a folded leaflet. They protect the strips from crushing and give you clear panels for the product name, strength, directions and batch details.

What a Blister Carton Has to Do
A blister strip is a thin sheet of foil and plastic that bends easily. Loose in a bag or a drawer, its pockets get pushed in, the foil splits and tablets fall out or get damaged. A carton holds the strips flat, stacks neatly on a pharmacy shelf and gives the person taking the tablets an obvious place to read how to use them.
The carton also does a lot of quiet work behind the counter. Staff pick by reading the end panel, so the product name and strength must be clear there. Stock is checked by scanning a barcode, so the code has to sit on a flat, uncluttered area. And because many cartons look alike, good use of colour helps prevent the wrong strength being handed over. The same thinking applies to cartons for supplement bottles and tubs, where the end panel does the selling in a crowded aisle.
Sizing Custom Blister Pill Boxes Around the Strip
Start with the strip itself. Measure its length and width, then the height of the tallest blister pocket, and note how many strips go into each carton. Two strips usually sit back to back with the pockets facing outward or nested together, which changes the depth needed. If a folded patient leaflet goes in as well, its folded size and thickness need to be included too.
We add a small allowance on each side so strips slide in on a packing line or by hand without catching. Too much space and the strips rattle and the carton looks under-filled; too little and the pockets get crushed as the flaps close. Send us a sample strip and leaflet if you can, because the real thing always tells us more than a drawing. Our guide to measuring a product for its box shows how to take each dimension.

Carton Styles and Closures
The workhorse is a reverse tuck end carton in folding board, which opens at either end and is simple to pack by hand. A straight tuck end, where both flaps tuck from the same side, gives a cleaner front panel. Crash-lock bases suit larger multi-strip packs and help on semi-automatic lines, since the base springs into shape as the carton opens.
For supplements sold online, a tamper-evident seal sticker or a tear strip across one end reassures buyers that the pack has not been opened. For products that need to be kept away from small children, specialist child-resistant formats exist; these involve separate rules and testing, so speak to your regulatory adviser first and we will work to the specification they give you.
Print Layout and Panel Planning
A pill carton is small, so every panel needs a job. The front carries the product name, strength or dose and the pack count in large, high-contrast type. One side panel usually holds directions and warnings, the other the ingredients or active substance, the manufacturer or distributor details and storage advice. The end flaps carry the name and strength again so the carton can be identified when it is shelved end-on.
Leave a blank area on one panel for a batch number and expiry date, which are usually added by inkjet or label at packing time rather than printed in advance. Keep this area free of varnish so the coding ink dries properly.
Medicines in the UK are often required to carry the product name in Braille on the carton. Braille embossing can be added where your product needs it, and supplements and food supplements may have their own labelling rules. We print exactly what you approve, so have the wording checked by whoever handles your compliance before you sign off the proof. Panel planning for pharmaceutical cartons with patient leaflets follows the same order of information.
Board, Colour and Finish
A smooth white folding board around 300 to 350 gsm is standard. It takes crisp small text and stays rigid enough to protect strips in a handbag or bathroom cabinet. Matt varnish reduces glare under shop lighting, which helps text stay readable from a slight angle. Gloss lamination makes a supplement brand look bolder on a retail shelf.
Colour coding by strength or variant is one of the most useful things you can do. A different coloured band for each strength, or a different background colour per product in a range, makes picking faster and reduces mix-ups. Foil and embossing are usually saved for premium supplements, as pharmacy products tend to favour clarity over decoration. The board weights and finishes we offer are listed with notes on which surfaces take a pen.
Whatever finish you pick, test that a pen or label sticks to any area where pharmacists write dispensing notes, as some laminates resist ink.
Who Uses Them
Supplement brands packing vitamins, minerals and herbal capsules; pharmacies offering own-label remedies; contract manufacturers who pack tablets for several clients; veterinary suppliers packing pet medicines; travel health and sleep aid brands; and start-ups launching a first product in blister strips all order these cartons. Clinics and private practices sometimes use them for sample packs given at consultations.
Each group tends to want something slightly different. A pharmacy own-label line needs plain, legible cartons that sit comfortably beside branded medicines. A supplement start-up selling online usually wants a carton that photographs well for product listings and looks good when it lands on a doormat inside a mailer. A contract packer cares most about consistent sizes that run smoothly on their equipment, with artwork changes handled cleanly between clients.
If you are moving from bottles or tubs to blister strips for the first time, ask your strip supplier for the final strip size before artwork begins. The carton should be the last thing sized, not the first, because a small change in pocket layout can alter every carton dimension. Brands that pack capsules in bottles instead can look at our printed vitamin bottle cartons, which are sized around the bottle rather than a strip.
Ordering and Turnaround
Send the strip dimensions, strips per carton, leaflet size, carton style, artwork and quantity, and we will reply with a custom quote by email within one working day. Prices start from £0.25 per carton depending on board, print and run length, and minimums are low and quoted per job, which suits new supplement brands testing a first batch.
A free design proof comes before any printing, and it is the moment to check every word, number and warning. Expect 4–7 working days of production after approval, followed by free, tracked UK mainland delivery in 2–3 working days. Should any blister pill boxes arrive misprinted or damaged, let us know within 10 days for a reprint or a refund.

Blister Pill Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering blister pill boxes.
What measurements do you need from my blister strip?
The strip length, width and the height of the deepest pocket, plus how many strips go in each carton. A posted sample strip is even better.
Can the carton hold a folded patient leaflet as well?
Yes. Tell us the folded size and thickness and we add it to the internal depth so the leaflet sits behind the strips.
Can you add Braille to the carton?
Yes, Braille embossing can be added where your product requires it. Confirm the wording with your compliance adviser before approving the proof.
Where should the batch and expiry details go?
We leave an unvarnished blank area on one panel so your coder or label can add them at packing time.
How can I stop staff picking the wrong strength?
Colour code each strength with a distinct band or background, and repeat the name and strength on the end flaps so cartons are easy to read on a shelf.
Are child-resistant cartons available?
Child-resistant formats follow their own rules and testing. Speak to your regulatory adviser first and we will work to the specification they provide.
Is a tamper-evident seal a good idea for supplements sold online?
It reassures buyers that the pack is unopened. A seal sticker or tear strip across one end is the simplest option.
Which board weight protects strips best?
A 300 to 350 gsm folding board keeps strips flat in bags and cabinets while folding cleanly on a packing line.
Will you check our regulatory wording?
We print exactly what you approve on the free proof. Wording, warnings and legal panels should be checked by whoever handles your compliance.
Can we order several strengths in one job?
Yes. One custom quote can cover several designs, which keeps the range consistent and usually costs less than separate orders.
What happens if a carton has a printing error?
If cartons do not match the approved proof or arrive damaged, report it within 10 days and we will reprint or refund them.
