Packaging That Earns Trust Before the Tube Is Opened
People buying scar gel are often recovering from surgery, an injury or a skin condition, and they want reassurance. The packaging plays a bigger part in that than it does for most skincare. A clean, well-organised carton with clear directions and a calm design suggests a product that has been made with care. A cluttered or flimsy box does the opposite, even if the gel inside is excellent.
That is why scar gel cartons usually follow a pharmacy style: white or pale board, a clear product name, a simple illustration or colour band, and plenty of space. The goal is a box that looks at home on a chemist's shelf, in a clinic and in a bathroom cabinet.
Clinics and surgeons often recommend a specific product to patients, so the box may also be handed over in a consultation room. In that setting, a carton that looks clinical and well made supports the recommendation, while one that looks like a beauty impulse buy can undermine it. Dressings handed over in the same consultation use our bandage boxes for clinics in the same style.
Carton Styles for Tubes and Pumps
Most scar gels come in a slim tube or an airless pump bottle, and both fit neatly into a tuck end carton. A straight tuck end, where both flaps tuck in the same direction, is the most common pharmacy style and folds quickly at packing. A reverse tuck end, with flaps tucking in opposite directions, is a little more economical to produce and equally common.
For heavier pumps or premium kits, a crash-lock base holds the bottle securely and makes packing faster. Sleeve and tray boxes suit kits that include a silicone sheet, an applicator or a travel tube alongside the main product.
- Straight tuck end: classic pharmacy carton for tubes
- Reverse tuck end: economical everyday carton
- Crash-lock base: heavier pump bottles
- Sleeve and tray: kits with sheets or applicators
- Hang tab carton: peg display in pharmacies

Sizing Custom Scar Gel Boxes Around the Tube
Measure the tube flat at its widest point, including the crimped end, and its full length with the cap on. Tubes are wider at the crimp than at the shoulder, so a carton sized only to the cap end will be too narrow. Add a few millimetres all round so the tube slides in easily, along with any folded leaflet.
Leaflets take more space than people expect, especially once folded several times. Fold your leaflet as it will be packed and lay it against the tube when measuring. If the leaflet is large, consider a slightly deeper carton rather than forcing it in, as crushed leaflets look careless and can make the box bulge.
If you sell several tube sizes, a family of cartons with the same width and depth but different lengths keeps the range tidy on a pharmacy shelf.
Pump bottles need a little more thought. The pump head is often the most fragile part, so the carton should be tall enough that the head does not press against the top flap. A simple card collar inside the box can stop the bottle from rocking. Our guide to measuring tubes and pumps covers crimps and leaflets.
Information Panels and Regulatory Text
Scar gels are regulated as cosmetics or medical devices depending on how they are made and marketed, and the text required on the carton follows from that. Your regulatory adviser will tell you exactly what must appear, such as ingredients, directions, warnings, the responsible person's details, batch number and expiry date. Our job is to lay it out clearly and print it accurately.
Plan the panels early. The front carries the brand, product name and a short description. One side panel usually holds directions for use, another holds ingredients and warnings. The back can explain how the gel works and who it is for. The flaps or base carry the barcode, batch code and expiry date, often printed or stamped at packing.
Small type is common on pharmacy cartons, but it must still be readable. We check minimum text sizes on the proof and flag anything that looks too small to print clearly.
If the same carton will be sold in more than one market, leave room for a second language or a sticker panel rather than redesigning later. Upload the approved text through the free proof request and we will set the panels for you.
Clean Design and Clinical Finishes
A pharmacy-style carton relies on restraint. White board with one or two brand colours, a clear typeface and generous margins often looks more trustworthy than a heavily decorated box. A gentle colour band or a simple skin illustration is enough to make the product recognisable.
Matt varnish gives a calm, clinical feel and reduces glare under shop lighting. Gloss can make colours look brighter. Soft touch lamination suits premium skincare lines where the box is part of a more luxurious experience. Braille embossing for the product name is a thoughtful addition for products sold in pharmacies.
If your brand sits closer to beauty than medicine, a pale colour board with a small foil logo can bridge the two without losing the clean look.
Who Orders Scar Gel Cartons
Skincare brands launching a scar or stretch mark product are the main buyers, followed by medical device companies and clinics with their own-label aftercare ranges. Cosmetic surgery clinics often supply scar gel to patients after treatment and like a branded box that matches the rest of their aftercare pack.
Pharmacies and online health retailers with private label ranges also order cartons in volume, often with several products in a matching family of boxes.
Brands selling online use the same cartons inside a small mailer, and many add a printed card with a short reminder of how often to apply the gel, which helps patients stick to their routine. Devices sold with the gel are boxed on our medical device boxes page with the same panel plan.
Measure the Tube at the Crimp, Not the Cap
Gel tubes are widest at the crimped end, so a carton sized from the cap end will not close. Lay the tube flat, measure across the crimp and the full length with the cap on, and lay the folded leaflet against it before measuring. For a pump, add height so the head clears the top flap. Then send the text your regulatory adviser has approved.
Say if a tamper seal, a hang tab or Braille is wanted. Send the measurements, leaflet, text and quantity, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows every panel flat so the text and code panel can be checked line by line. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, taking 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged cartons reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Creams in the same aftercare range use the matching skincare boxes with a pump insert.

Scar Gel Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering scar gel boxes.
How do I measure a gel tube for the right carton?
Measure the tube flat at its widest point, including the crimped end, and its full length with the cap on. Add space for any folded leaflet.
What box style do pharmacies prefer?
Straight or reverse tuck end cartons are the standard pharmacy style. Add a hang tab if the product will be displayed on pegs.
Can you print batch numbers and expiry dates?
We can print a fixed panel for them, and most brands add the variable codes at packing with a stamp or printer. The panel is left unvarnished so the ink dries.
Can the carton include Braille?
Braille embossing of the product name can be added, which is a helpful touch for products sold in pharmacies. It is placed on a panel clear of the printed text.
What text needs to go on a scar gel box?
That depends on whether the product is a cosmetic or a medical device. Your regulatory adviser will specify the text, and we will lay it out clearly.
Will a folded leaflet fit inside the box?
Yes, if we know its folded size. Lay the folded leaflet against the tube when measuring so the carton is not too tight.
Can I make a matching kit with silicone sheets?
A sleeve and tray box with an insert can hold the gel, sheets and an applicator together. The aftercare kit box in our size table is 160 x 110 x 45 mm.
Which finish suits a clinical product?
Matt varnish on white board is the most common choice, giving a calm and trustworthy look. Keep gloss for a small logo highlight if at all.
Can a clinic order its own branded aftercare boxes?
Yes. Minimums are quoted per job, so clinics can order a modest first run to match their aftercare pack.
Should the tamper seal go on the tuck flap or the side seam?
On the tuck flap, across the opening a patient uses, so breaking it is the first thing they do. A perforated tear strip does the same job without a sticker and suits machine-packed lines. The side seam is glued, so it needs no seal.
Can the carton say where on the body the gel should be applied?
Directions for use can include a simple illustration showing where and how to apply the gel. Use the wording your regulatory adviser has approved and we will lay it out clearly.
