Custom Vial Boxes with Inserts

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom vial boxes with inserts hold small glass vials upright and separated, so they cannot knock together, tip over or roll loose when the box is opened. We cut each insert to your vial size and print the box with your branding, product details and handling information.

Why Vials Need More Than a Plain Carton

Glass vials are small, smooth and surprisingly easy to damage. Two vials rubbing together in transit can chip the glass at the shoulder, a vial lying on its side can leak past a crimp cap, and a loose vial rolling around inside a carton can crack a label or scuff printed information. Any of these can make a product unusable, even when the vial looks fine at first glance.

An insert removes the movement. Each vial sits in its own hole or slot, upright and a set distance from its neighbours. When the box is opened, every vial is visible at once, which also makes it easy to check the contents and count stock without handling each one.

Inserts also help the person using the vials. A practitioner preparing a treatment, or a customer working through a course of ampoules, can see straight away which vials have been used and which remain. Empty holes act as a simple visual record, which reduces mistakes when several similar vials are kept in one box. Boxes that also hold a leaflet and a dosing spoon are our pharmaceutical cartons with leaflet space.

Insert Options for Vial Boxes

Die-cut card inserts are the most common choice. A top card with round holes sized to the vial body sits above a base card, holding each vial by its sides. They are light, neat and print well, so you can number each position or add the product name beside each hole.

Foam inserts grip vials more firmly and absorb knocks, which is worth considering if boxes are posted or carried in a bag. Corrugated inserts sit between the two in terms of cushioning and give a sturdier feel for larger vials. For a single vial, a folded card cradle or a tube-shaped insert holds it in the centre of a slim box.

If vials will be refrigerated, mention it when you ask for a custom quote. Condensation can soften untreated card over time, so a coated board or a foam insert usually performs better in the fridge, and the printed information stays crisp for longer.

  • Two-level die-cut card inserts with round holes
  • Foam inserts for extra shock absorption
  • Corrugated inserts for larger vials
  • Single vial cradles for sample or trial packs
  • Numbered positions printed beside each hole

Sizing Vial Boxes with Inserts

Measure the vial body diameter, the cap diameter if it is wider, and the full height including the cap. The insert holes are sized to the body with a small clearance so vials drop in without force but do not wobble. If the cap is wider than the body, the holes are sized to the cap so vials can be inserted from the top, or the insert is split so the cap sits above the top card.

Next decide the layout: a single row, two rows, a grid of four, six, ten or more. The box size follows from the number of vials and the spacing between them. Leave enough space between holes that fingers can grip each vial to lift it out, roughly 5 to 8 mm between vial edges for small vials.

Dropper vials, roll-on vials and crimp-top vials all have slightly different profiles, so it is worth sending a physical sample of each type you use. A few tenths of a millimetre make a real difference to how securely a small vial sits, and a sample lets us test the hole size on the actual glass rather than relying on a drawing. Our method for measuring a vial with its cap covers stoppers and crimp caps.

Board, Print and Information Panels

White folding board between 300 and 400 gsm is standard for vial cartons, with heavier board or a rigid box for premium serums and kits. A clean, white or pale background makes printed information easy to read, and spot colours keep brand colours consistent across a product range.

Plan your information panels early. Most vial products need a product name, strength or volume, batch number, expiry date, storage instructions and the name and address of the supplier. Leave a clear space for batch and expiry codes if they are printed on your packing line. For research or professional products, a clear statement of intended use belongs on the main panel.

Who Uses Vial Boxes

Aesthetic clinics and cosmetic practitioners use vial boxes for treatment kits. Skincare and serum brands use them for ampoule sets, often with a box of seven or ten vials as a course. Research labs and suppliers use them for samples and reagents. Pharmacies and compounding businesses use them for small batch preparations. Perfume brands use similar boxes for discovery sets of sample vials.

Each market cares about slightly different things. Clinics value a clean, clinical look. Serum brands want a premium, giftable box. Labs prioritise clear labelling and secure holding. We can adapt the insert and the print style to suit.

Kits that combine vials with other items, such as syringes, swabs, droppers or an instruction leaflet, can be laid out in a single insert with dedicated spaces for each piece. A well organised kit reduces handling and makes it obvious if anything is missing before use. Fragrance brands use the same insert idea on our perfume sample boxes for discovery sets.

Finishes and Tamper Evidence

A matt lamination keeps the box looking clean and reduces glare under clinic lighting. Soft-touch suits premium serum sets. Foil stamping on the logo adds a touch of quality. A window over the insert lets the vials show, which is useful for serums and samples with an attractive colour.

For products where buyers need to know the box has not been opened, add a tamper-evident seal sticker across the lid or a tear strip that must be broken to open the box. These are simple, low-cost additions that build trust. A printed seal across the lid is supplied as seal labels for the lid in the same order.

Post Us One Vial With Its Cap

Vial inserts are cut to a tolerance of a millimetre, so the surest brief is one vial with its cap or stopper fitted, posted to us; failing that, measure the diameter at the widest point, the full height closed, and the diameter of the base if it is narrower. Tell us the number of vials per box and the layout, a single row, a grid or two rows, and whether each position should be numbered. Choose card for light vials and foam for heavy or valuable ones, and say if a window should show the vials or a seal should show the box has not been opened. Artwork covers the box and the information panels, including a clear area for batch and expiry codes, sent as vector files; the free proof shows the box, the insert layout and every panel. A custom quote comes by email within one working day, minimums are set per job, and boxes with inserts are made in 4 to 7 working days after approval with free tracked UK mainland delivery. Cases for crowns and aligners use our dental lab boxes for cases.

Vial Boxes with Inserts Questions

What buyers ask before ordering vial boxes with inserts.

How do inserts stop vials breaking?

Each vial sits in its own hole or slot, upright and apart from the others. This stops the glass knocking together or rolling inside the box.

What do I need to measure on a vial?

Measure the body diameter, the cap diameter and the full height with the cap on. If the cap is wider than the body, we size the holes or insert to suit.

Card or foam insert, which should I choose?

Card is neat, light and printable. Foam grips more firmly and absorbs knocks, so it suits boxes that will be posted or carried.

Can I number each vial position?

Yes. We can print numbers or product names beside each hole on the insert.

How much space should be left between vials?

Around 5 to 8 mm between vial edges lets fingers grip each one. Larger vials need a little more space.

Can the box show the vials through a window?

A window over the insert lets the vials show. It suits serums and samples with an attractive colour.

Where should batch and expiry codes go?

Leave a clear, unlaminated or light area on a side or an end panel so codes can be printed on your packing line and read easily. We mark the clear area on the proof. Pre-printed LOT and EXP headings can sit beside it.

Can a vial box have a tamper-evident seal across the lid?

Yes, a seal sticker across the lid or a tear strip on the flap shows clearly if the box has been opened. The sticker can carry your logo and is quoted in the same order. The tear strip is cut during production.

Can the same box hold different vial sizes?

An insert can have holes of different sizes in one layout. Send each vial size and the arrangement you want.

Who should I contact if inserts arrive with holes cut wrongly?

Get in touch within 10 days of delivery. If the boxes do not match the approved proof, or are misprinted or damaged, we reprint or refund.
