Custom Automotive Shipping Boxes
Custom automotive shipping boxes are built for car parts that are heavy, awkwardly shaped or both: brake discs, exhaust sections, bumpers, alternators and body panels. We make them in strong corrugated board sized to the part, with printed branding and handling marks so they arrive at the garage in one piece.

The Trouble With Shipping Car Parts
Car parts are not friendly parcels. A brake disc is small but very heavy for its size. A bumper is light but long and easily scuffed. An alternator has delicate fittings sticking out of a heavy body. Oil and grease from reconditioned parts can soak into weaker board. And all of them travel through courier networks designed for parcels that are lighter and more regular in shape.
Generic boxes often fail in predictable ways: bases burst under weight, corners crush when stacked, long boxes bend in the middle, and parts shift and puncture the wall. Every failure means a return, a replacement part, a second delivery charge and an unhappy garage or customer waiting for their car.
Sizing boxes to your common parts and choosing the right board grade fixes most of these problems before they start.
Couriers also apply surcharges for parcels that are oversized or poorly packed, and some will refuse to compensate for damage if the packaging was not suitable for the weight. A box built for the job protects you on both counts. p3 Suppliers who send lighter items such as filters often pair these with printed boxes for air filters.
Board Grades for Heavy Parts
Corrugated board comes in single, double and triple wall constructions, with different flute sizes and liner weights.
Single wall B or C flute is adequate for lighter parts such as filters, sensors, small trim pieces and lighting units. Double wall board, combining two layers of fluting, is the standard for heavier items like brake components, pumps, starters and alternators. Triple wall board is used for very heavy or high-value parts and for boxes stacked on pallets.
Stronger liners on the outside improve stacking strength and resistance to punctures, while a white or brown liner choice mostly affects how the print looks.
If in doubt, go one grade stronger for your heaviest lines; the extra board costs far less than a single damaged part and a second delivery. p3 The double wall corrugated boxes page lists the flute combinations we stock.
- Single wall: filters, sensors, bulbs and light trim
- Double wall: brake discs and pads, pumps, alternators, starters
- Triple wall: gearbox components, heavy assemblies and palletised loads
- Long telescopic boxes: exhausts, bumpers, wiper blades and trim strips

Sizing Automotive Shipping Boxes
Measure each part at its largest points, including brackets, studs and connectors that stick out. Add space for protective packing, typically 20 to 50 mm on each side for heavy or delicate parts, depending on the choice of foam, corrugated inserts or void fill. A box that is too large lets the part move and build momentum; one that is too tight transfers every knock straight to the part.
Parts suppliers usually handle hundreds of SKUs, so it pays to group parts into a small set of box sizes. A brake disc box sized for the most common diameters, a long box for exhausts and trim, and a few standard cartons for mechanical units will cover most orders. Inserts can then adapt each box to specific parts.
For very long items, telescopic boxes that slide together let one design cover a range of lengths, which saves stocking many sizes.
Weigh a packed box as well as measuring it. Heavy parts quickly reach courier weight limits, and knowing the packed weight helps you choose between parcel and pallet services and avoid unexpected surcharges. p3 Long and heavy items can also go in roll-end boxes for long auto parts, which fold up quickly on a packing bench.
Inserts and Internal Protection
Internal fittings make a big difference with heavy parts. Corrugated inserts with cut-outs hold discs, drums and pulleys centrally so they do not slide to one end. End caps protect the ends of long items. Partitions keep sets of smaller parts, such as pads, bulbs or sensors, separate and countable.
For oily or reconditioned parts, a liner bag or a coated board inside the box stops grease seeping into the walls and weakening them. Remember also to protect machined surfaces and threads; a small plastic cap or a wrap is often enough.
Inserts also make packing faster for warehouse staff, because each part has an obvious place in the box. That cuts the time spent hunting for void fill and reduces the chance of a part being packed loose on a busy afternoon. p2 We make the corrugated inserts for heavy parts at the same time as the boxes so the fit is checked together.
Printing and Marking
Printing on shipping boxes is usually simple and practical: your logo, website and phone number, plus handling marks such as This Way Up, Heavy and Fragile where appropriate. A clear panel for part numbers, vehicle fitment and barcodes speeds up warehouse picking and helps the receiving garage check the delivery quickly.
One or two colours on brown kraft board is the most common and economical choice. Brands selling direct to car enthusiasts sometimes choose full colour on white board, as the box is part of the customer experience for performance and accessory parts.
If you supply trade customers, a consistent box with your logo builds recognition among garages that receive parts from many suppliers every day.
Returns are common in the parts trade, so consider printing short returns guidance on the inside flap, and design the box to be reusable for sending a part back.
Who Uses Them
Motor factors and parts distributors, online car parts retailers, remanufacturers and reconditioners, performance and tuning parts brands, classic car parts specialists, garages sending parts for repair and breakers selling used parts all ship regularly and benefit from properly sized boxes.
Motorcycle parts suppliers have similar needs with slightly smaller boxes, and agricultural and plant parts suppliers use the same principles for heavier components.
Specialists in electric and hybrid vehicle parts also need well-made boxes, as many modules and components are heavy, valuable and sensitive to knocks. p2 Businesses that ship a mix of parts and consumables often add cartons for motor oil bottles to the same order.
Weigh the Packed Part, Not the Bare Part
Garages and parts suppliers usually give us the part weight from the catalogue. What matters for the box is the packed weight: the part plus the inserts, liner bag and any void fill. Put a packed sample on the scales and send that figure with the outside dimensions, because it decides whether single, double or triple wall is right and whether the parcel will tip into a courier surcharge band.
Group your SKUs before you ask for prices. Three or four box sizes with inserts cover most parts ranges, and ordering fewer sizes in larger runs brings the unit cost down. A quote for each size arrives by email within one working day, starting at £0.25 for the smallest cartons.
The proof is free and shows the print and handling marks on a flat dieline. Boxes are made in 4 to 7 working days after approval and reach UK mainland addresses free and tracked, delivered flat in bundles. Transit damage or print faults reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. For smaller components that go by parcel post, our mailer boxes for small car parts are the lighter companion to these cartons.

Automotive Shipping Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering automotive shipping boxes.
Which board grade do brake discs need?
Double wall corrugated board is the usual choice, often with an insert that holds the disc centrally. Discs over about 5 kg or stacked on pallets move up to triple wall.
How much packing space should I allow?
Typically 20 to 50 mm on each side for heavy or delicate parts, depending on the protective packing you use. A fitted corrugated insert needs less clearance than loose void fill.
Can one box size fit many parts?
Yes. Group parts into a few sizes and use inserts to adapt each box to specific parts.
How do I ship long parts like exhausts?
Telescopic boxes that slide together cover a range of lengths, with end caps for protection. Measure the exhaust at its widest bend, not just its length.
Will oil from parts weaken the box?
It can. A liner bag or coated inner board keeps grease out of the walls.
Can you print handling marks?
Yes. Heavy, Fragile and This Way Up marks can be printed alongside your branding.
Is there room for part numbers?
We can print a clear panel for part numbers, fitment details and barcodes. Many suppliers leave a white write-on area for the picker to add the part number by hand.
When is triple wall needed?
For very heavy or high-value parts and boxes that will be stacked on pallets. Gearboxes, cylinder heads and complete alternator sets are typical triple wall jobs.
Can boxes have hand holes?
Yes, hand holes make heavy boxes easier to lift and carry. We reinforce the hand hole area on double wall boxes so it does not tear under a brake disc.
Do you make boxes for motorcycle parts?
Yes. The same constructions work in smaller sizes for motorcycle components.
How are boxes delivered?
Flat in bundles, to be assembled as you pack. Delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days.
