Why Brake Fluid Is Boxed

Brake fluid is sold in sealed plastic or metal bottles, usually from 250 ml to 5 litres. The bottles themselves carry a label, so why add a box? There are three good reasons. First, a carton protects the bottle and its seal from knocks and punctures in warehouses and vans. Second, it gives a much larger printed area on the shelf, so the brand and grade are visible from a distance. Third, a box can hold safety and usage information that does not fit on a small bottle label.

Grade matters greatly with brake fluid. DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1 and silicone-based DOT 5 are not all interchangeable, and a mechanic or driver picking the wrong one can cause problems. A box that shows the grade in large, colour-coded type helps prevent mistakes at the counter and on the garage shelf.

For brands supplying garages and motor factors in quantity, outer cases also make handling and stock control easier. Garages that also stock filters tend to keep the same panel layout as their oil filter boxes, so a shelf of mixed cartons still looks like one range.

Styles of Custom Brake Fluid Boxes

Single-bottle tuck end cartons are the retail standard, sized snugly around the bottle so it stays upright. A crash-lock base speeds up packing and gives a secure bottom for heavier bottles. Some brands add a small window to show the bottle and its seal.

Multi-bottle outer cases in corrugated board hold six, twelve or twenty-four bottles with dividers between them. They protect bottles in transit to garages and wholesalers and are often printed with the brand and grade on every side for easy identification on a stockroom shelf.

Counter display boxes hold a few bottles at the till, with a tear-off lid that turns the shipping case into a display. They suit motor factors and service stations.

Sizing Around Bottles

Measure the bottle height including the cap, the widest point of the body, and any handle on larger containers. Add a few millimetres so bottles slide in and out without scraping their labels. For outer cases, add the thickness of the dividers and the board.

Bottle shapes vary. Round bottles leave space in the corners of a square carton, which can be useful for a folded leaflet. Square or rectangular bottles fit more snugly. If you sell several sizes, keep the artwork consistent and scale it to each carton.

Weight matters too. A litre of fluid in a bottle is heavier than it looks, and a carton made from light board can bow or split. We choose a board that carries the weight, and suggest corrugated for larger sizes.

If your bottles have tamper-evident caps or induction seals, make sure the carton height leaves a small gap above the cap so it is not pressed on during stacking. A carton that pushes on the cap can, over time, stress the seal, which is the last thing a brake fluid supplier wants. The shoulder and cap measurement is the same method shown in the measuring guide for custom boxes.

Information to Print

The grade should be the most prominent element after the brand, ideally in a large, colour-coded panel on the front and sides. Add the volume, the boiling point specifications if you quote them, compatibility notes, directions for use and storage advice.

Brake fluid is a chemical product, so leave space for any hazard pictograms, signal words, precautionary statements and supplier details your product requires. We print what you supply, and you are responsible for checking that the wording and symbols meet the rules for your product. A barcode and batch code area complete the panel.

Include clear directions for use, such as checking the grade specified in the vehicle handbook, keeping the bottle sealed when not in use and never mixing silicone-based fluid with glycol-based fluids. These short reminders help the customer and reflect well on your brand. A long technical panel is easier on the larger faces of automotive parts boxes than on a tall narrow carton.

Board and Print Choices

White folding boxboard gives sharp, bright colours for retail cartons. Heavier boxboard or E-flute corrugated suits larger bottles and outer cases. Kraft corrugated is a cost-effective choice for outer cases that stay in the stockroom.

Automotive branding tends to be bold, with strong colours and clear type. Gloss or matt lamination protects the print from oily fingers in garages, and a laminated surface can be wiped clean. Keep text large and high contrast so it is legible in a dim workshop.

Think about where the box will be read. In a motor factor, cartons often sit on high racking, so the grade and volume should be printed on the top flap as well as the front. In a garage, a mechanic may grab a box from a low shelf in poor light, so the grade colour band should wrap around the corners to be visible from any angle.

Consistency across a range is more valuable than a single striking design. Garages and retailers learn to recognise a brand's colours, and when coolant, screen wash and brake fluid share one layout with different grade colours, staff can find the right product quickly.

Who Orders Brake Fluid Packaging

Automotive chemical brands, private-label suppliers to motor factors, distributors who repack bulk fluid, motorsport fluid specialists and garage chains with their own-brand ranges all order these boxes. Many order brake fluid cartons alongside boxes for coolant, oil and other fluids, keeping the design consistent across the range.

Classic car parts suppliers also order small runs for specialist fluids sold to enthusiasts.

Online sellers of car care products also use single-bottle cartons inside their shipping boxes. The carton keeps the bottle upright, protects it from other items in the order and gives the customer a branded product rather than a loose bottle in a bag of packing peanuts.

Fleet maintenance suppliers order outer cases printed with their own branding when they supply depots directly. Distributors who send single bottles to workshops post them in an automotive shipping box with dividers rather than relying on the retail carton.

Match the Carton to the Bottle's Shoulder

The awkward part of a brake fluid bottle is the shoulder and cap, not the body. Measure the bottle at its widest point, usually the shoulder, and the full height with the cap on, then tell us whether the cap is a flat screw type or a pouring spout. We size the carton to the shoulder width so the bottle cannot rattle, and add a crash-lock bottom for 1 litre and larger because the weight sits high in the box.

Send those measurements, the pack count for the outer case, the box style and the quantity, and we email a quote within one working day with minimums set per job. A free proof follows with the DOT grade and hazard panel at true size. Cartons are produced in 4 to 7 working days after approval and arrive by tracked courier, included for UK mainland; misprints or crushed cartons reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Coolant and screenwash in the same range usually share the dieline with motor oil cartons, so the shelf reads as one brand.

Brake Fluid Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering brake fluid boxes.

How do I make the DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 grade easy to spot on the carton?

Give the grade its own colour band on the front and both ends, and keep the band colour consistent across the range so a mechanic can pick DOT 4 from DOT 5.1 at a glance. Print the grade at least 20 mm high. We check the panel on the proof against the bottle label so the two never disagree.

Can the box carry hazard symbols?

Yes, we print any pictograms and safety text you supply. Checking that they meet the rules for your product is your responsibility.

Which base style suits a 1 litre bottle?

A crash-lock base gives a secure bottom for heavier bottles and speeds up packing.

Can you make outer cases with dividers?

Yes, corrugated outer cases with dividers hold six, twelve or more bottles and protect them in transit.

Will the box survive oily garage hands?

A gloss or matt lamination resists oil and can be wiped clean, keeping the print readable.

Can the shipping case become a counter display?

Yes, a tear-off lid turns the case into a display at a motor factor or service station counter.

Can you match my coolant and oil boxes?

Yes, we can keep the design consistent across your fluid range and adjust sizes for each bottle.

Is there space for batch codes?

Yes, we include a clear panel for batch codes and dates, applied by stamp or inkjet at packing.

Which board suits a 5 litre container?

E-flute or B-flute corrugated is best for large containers because of their weight.

What do brake fluid cartons cost?

Simple printed cartons start from £0.25 each depending on size and board. Your custom quote follows by email inside one working day.
