Custom Automotive Parts Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom automotive parts boxes protect alternators, starter motors, sensors, brake components and accessories while giving fitters and motorists the information they need at a glance: part number, fitment, contents and brand. Aftermarket parts brands, remanufacturers and motor factors use them to make stock easy to find on a shelf and safe to ship.

Packaging Built for the Parts Trade

Car parts are sold in a very particular way. A motor factor's shelves are lined with boxes, often thousands of them, and staff need to find the right part number quickly while a mechanic waits at the counter. Online, a part is picked from a warehouse, packed and shipped, sometimes with very little additional protection. In a garage, the box is opened beside a car, often with oily hands, and the old part frequently goes back in the same box for core return.

That means the box has three jobs. It must protect parts that can be heavy, sharp-edged or delicate. It must carry clear information so the right part is picked every time. And it must look professional enough that a motorist or fitter trusts the brand. Plain brown boxes with a sticker can work, but printed boxes make a range far easier to manage and far more credible.

For brands selling direct to motorists, the box is also the first physical contact with the product, so it carries much of the brand's reputation. Everything from filters to lighting sits in our automotive and hardware packaging range.

Box Styles for Different Parts

Small components such as sensors, bulbs, relays and spark plugs suit tuck end cartons in folding boxboard, sometimes with a hang tab for display. Medium parts such as water pumps, brake calipers and fuel pumps need E-flute or B-flute corrugated boxes with a crash-lock base that can bear the weight. Heavy units such as alternators, starter motors and turbochargers need double-wall or a fitted corrugated insert to stop them moving.

Long parts, including wiper blades, exhaust sections, driveshafts and trim, suit long tuck boxes or roll end cartons. Boxed accessory kits, such as socket sets, cleaning kits and phone mounts, often use a retail-style carton with a window or full colour printing for showroom display.

  • Tuck end cartons: sensors, bulbs, relays and small parts
  • Crash-lock corrugated: pumps, calipers and medium parts
  • Double-wall with inserts: alternators, starters and turbos
  • Long roll end boxes: wiper blades and long components
  • Retail cartons with windows: accessories and care kits

Spec Panels and Part Number Areas

The most useful feature of a good parts box is a clear spec panel. This is usually a white or light area on one end and one side, where the part number, description, fitment notes and barcode appear. Because shelves are often loaded end-on, the part number should be readable from the end panel; many brands print it on two ends so it shows whichever way the box is stored.

If your part numbers change frequently, print a standard branded box with a blank spec panel and apply a printed label for each part. That way one box design covers hundreds of part numbers and only the label changes. For high-volume parts, printing the details directly on the box looks cleaner and saves labour.

Include a contents line for kits, a fitting instruction reference or QR link, and space for core return information if you remanufacture parts. Where part numbers change often, printed labels for part numbers on a plain spec panel save reprinting the carton.

Board Strength and Inserts for Custom Automotive Parts Boxes

Weight is the main factor. A sensor weighs very little and is fine in folding boxboard; an alternator or brake disc can weigh several kilograms and will crush a light box when stacked. Choose board by the heaviest part in the box and by how high boxes will be stacked on shelves and pallets.

Inserts prevent movement. A part that slides around in a box can damage itself, damage the box and arrive at the garage with broken connectors. Corrugated partitions, folded card cradles and die-cut supports hold a part in place, and for sensitive electronics a cut foam insert gives extra cushioning.

Oily parts and remanufactured units sometimes carry residual oil or grease. A poly bag around the part, or a coated board inside, stops oil soaking into the carton and marking other stock.

Branding a Parts Range

A consistent design across your whole range makes a big difference in a motor factor or a garage stockroom. A strong brand colour, a bold logo and a clear system for categories, such as braking, electrical or cooling, help staff and customers identify your products from a distance. Bold flat colours work well on corrugated board, while folding boxboard can carry more detailed graphics and photographs.

Print the brand on several sides so it is visible however the box sits on a shelf. A matte coating resists scuffing, and an oil-resistant varnish helps boxes keep looking clean in a workshop environment.

Photography helps with accessories and car care products that are sold to motorists rather than fitters. A clear image of the part in use, or of the finished result for cleaning products, does a lot of selling on a retail shelf. For trade-only parts, a simple line drawing of the component on the end panel is often more useful, because it lets staff check they have the right item without opening the box. Plain brown cartons can still carry one-colour print with your logo on every face.

Shipping Parts to Customers

Many aftermarket parts are sold online and shipped in their retail box with only a label added. If that is your model, choose a stronger board than you would for shelf display, use a box that fits the part closely and consider a tear strip so customers can open it easily without damaging the part or the box for a return.

For core returns, a box sturdy enough to carry the old part back is essential. Print clear return instructions inside the lid or on the spec panel so the customer knows to keep the box.

Think about how the box will be opened at the garage as well. A tuck end that opens without tearing lets the fitter check the part and close it again if it turns out to be the wrong one, which keeps it resaleable. For parts posted singly, a roll end auto part box with a locking front avoids a second outer carton.

Group Parts by Size Before You Ask for a Price

A parts range can run to hundreds of SKUs, so the useful first step is to sort them into a handful of box footprints. Lay out your best sellers, measure the largest in each group and note the heaviest. Three or four carton sizes usually cover most of a catalogue, and a blank spec panel with a printed label per part number keeps print runs long and unit costs down. Heavy units such as alternators and discs may need a corrugated automotive shipping box rather than folding board, and we will say so in the custom quote we email within one working day.

Artwork should include the part number area, fitment table and any oil-resistant varnish request. The free proof shows the end panels, which is where shelves are read, so check the number sits there. Production follows in 4 to 7 working days, cartons arrive flat by free tracked courier, and misprints or transit damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Automotive Parts Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering automotive parts boxes.

Can one box design cover many part numbers?

Yes. Print a standard branded box with a blank spec panel and add a printed label for each part. It saves running a separate print job for every number.

Should the part number be on the end panel or the front of an auto parts box?

On at least one end panel, because parts shelves are loaded end-on and counter staff read the end first. Many brands repeat it on both ends and on the front so a box reads correctly whichever way it is stacked.

Will a heavy alternator crush the box?

Not if the board is chosen for the weight. We use double-wall or fitted inserts for heavy units and confirm the board on the quote.

Can the box carry an oily remanufactured part?

Yes, with a poly bag around the part or a coated inner board. That stops oil soaking through to the outer print.

Do you make boxes for long wiper blades?

Yes, long roll end or tuck boxes are made to the blade length. Send the longest size in your range.

Can I add a QR code to fitting instructions?

Yes, a QR code on the spec panel or inside the lid is a neat way to link to instructions without a printed leaflet.

Can boxes survive being shipped without an outer carton?

Choose a stronger board and a close fit if parts ship in their retail box. We can add a tear strip for easy opening and returns.

Can you colour-code categories?

Yes, a colour band for braking, electrical, cooling and so on is an effective way to organise a large range on shelves.

Can I order a short run for a slow-moving part number?

Yes. Minimums are quoted per job and kept low, so you can print best sellers in volume and slower part numbers in modest quantities under the same design.

Can you add an oil-resistant finish?

An oil-resistant varnish helps keep boxes clean in a workshop. Ask for it when you request a quote.

What happens if a pallet of parts cartons arrives with crushed bundles?

Report the damage or any misprint within 10 days with photos and we reprint or refund the affected cartons. Cartons ship flat and strapped to reduce the chance of damage.
