Custom A5 Notepads
Custom A5 notepads are the size people actually keep on a desk: big enough for proper notes, small enough to slip into a bag with a laptop. We print your logo and layout on every sheet, bind the pad the way you want it and send a free proof first.

Why A5 Is the Size That Gets Used
A4 pads tend to live in drawers and A6 pads get lost in pockets, but A5 sits in the middle. At 148 x 210 mm, a sheet holds a full page of meeting notes or a phone call's worth of detail without feeling cramped, and the pad fits beside a keyboard without taking over the desk. That is why branded A5 pads are so often the item clients pick up from a reception desk or event stand and carry home.
For a business, that daily use is the whole point. A pad with your name at the top of every sheet is seen each time someone writes on it, tears off a page or leaves a note for a colleague. It works quietly in a way a flyer never does.
A5 also folds neatly into a standard delegate wallet or document folder, and it fits a C5 envelope if you post pads to clients, which keeps postage simple and avoids awkward oversized parcels. Brands often pair them with printed notepads with your logo so the whole order arrives in one look.
Glued or Wiro Bound: Choosing the Binding
The binding decides how the pad behaves in use, so it is worth choosing deliberately rather than by default.
If you are unsure, think about what happens to a page once it is written on. If it gets handed to someone else, glue it; if it gets kept and referred back to, bind it with wire. A wiro pad that lies flat pairs well with carbonless duplicate pads for site paperwork when trades need both a notebook and a copy form in the van.
- Glued head: sheets are bound along the top with a flexible adhesive and tear away cleanly. Best for desk pads, to-do lists and tear-off order sheets.
- Wiro bound: a metal wire loop along the top or side lets pages fold right back. Best for notebooks people keep, such as course notes or project logs.
- Wiro with a cover: a printed card front cover protects the pages and gives you a second surface to brand. Best for gifts and conference packs.
- Perforated wiro: pages stay bound but tear out neatly along a perforation line when needed.

Designing the Page for Custom A5 Notepads
Most people print a logo at the top and leave the rest for writing, which is a good starting point. Keep the header shallow, ideally no more than 30 mm, so the writing area stays generous. Your website or phone number can sit in a thin strip at the bottom of the page instead of crowding the top.
Ruling makes a pad more useful. Feint lines at 7 or 8 mm spacing suit general notes, dotted grids suit designers and planners, and a simple checkbox column turns a pad into a to-do list. Schools and trainers often ask for a light border with a space for name and date. If you print ruling, use a pale tint of your brand colour rather than black, so handwriting is easy to read against it.
For pads that form part of a process, such as site visit sheets or treatment notes, we can print fields and boxes across the page. Send a rough sketch and we will set it to size on your proof. If the page carries boxes for job details, our printed order forms with numbered fields show how much space a handwritten entry really needs.
Paper, Backing Board and Covers
We normally print A5 pads on 90 or 100 gsm uncoated paper. It takes ballpoint, gel pen and pencil without smudging, and fountain pen users will find the heavier weight shows less through the page.
Every glued pad has a stiff card backing so it can be written on without a desk, which matters for event staff and trades people working on site. Wiro pads can have a matching card back and a printed or clear front cover.
A plain glued pad is all many businesses need, but a few additions can turn a notepad into something people value. A printed card cover in full colour gives a wiro pad a book-like feel and protects the pages in a bag. Matt laminate keeps the cover clean, while soft touch laminate has a velvety feel that suits gifts and premium client packs.
A pen loop on the side of a wiro pad keeps a branded pen with it, which delegates appreciate at conferences. Shrink-wrapping pads in packs of five or ten keeps them clean in storage and makes it easy to hand out a stack to each office.
If the pad will sit on display at a counter, a simple cardboard dispenser tray keeps it upright and neat. Ask about these extras when you request your quote, so we can price the full set rather than adding pieces later. The weights mentioned here are compared in plain terms in the board and card types explained guide, which covers backing board too.
How Different Organisations Use Them
Estate agents, solicitors and financial advisers leave branded pads on meeting room tables so clients take notes on paper carrying their details. Hotels and venues put them in rooms and conference suites. Schools use them for revision, reading logs and homework planners, while charities hand them out at open days.
Event organisers often order A5 pads for delegate bags because they are actually used during the sessions, rather than left in the bag. Trades businesses use pads with printed fields as job sheets, then file the completed pages with the invoice. Companies that post welcome packs often order the pad alongside printed sticky notes with the same logo so the two sit together on a desk.
Sheets Per Pad and Order Planning
Pads usually come in 25, 50 or 100 sheets. Fifty is a sensible default for giveaways: substantial enough to feel worth keeping, light enough to post or pack in a bag. Desk pads used every day by a team are better at 100 sheets so they are replaced less often.
If you need several versions, such as a pad per department or per branch, it is often cheaper to run them together on one order with a shared paper and binding. Mention every variation when asking for a quote and we will price them as a set. Rather than guess, send a note of how many pads each branch uses in a quarter and we set the quantity breaks on the quote the same way we price boxes.
Decide the Sheet Count From the Pad's Job
Before you ask for a price, settle how the pad will be used, because that fixes the sheet count and the binding. A giveaway on an exhibition stand only needs 25 sheets; it is handed out in thousands and nobody misses the extra paper. A pad for reception desks or treatment rooms should have 50 to 100 sheets so it is not replaced every fortnight. Glued pads suit tear-off use, wiro suits pads that stay open on a desk.
Send us the sheet count, binding, paper weight and whether every sheet is printed the same or you want several designs. We reply by email with a quote the next working day and set up the page at full size on a free proof so you can check the ruling and logo position. Printing takes roughly a week after approval and the pads travel on a tracked courier at no charge to UK mainland addresses. Branches that need a smaller tear-off format usually add printed sticky notepads in matching colours to the same order.

A5 Notepads Questions
What buyers ask before ordering A5 notepads.
Can every sheet of an A5 notepad be printed in full colour?
Yes, full colour on every page is our standard option. If your design only uses one or two brand colours, spot colour printing can work out cheaper on larger runs.
Should my notepad be glued or wiro bound?
Choose glued if people will tear sheets off and hand them over, such as notes or order slips. Choose wiro if the pages should stay together as a record, such as course notes or project logs.
Will ink from a fountain pen show through the paper?
On 90 gsm stock some show-through is possible with wet inks. Our 100 or 120 gsm options reduce it noticeably, so pick those if your customers are likely to use fountain pens.
Can I have lined pages with my logo at the top?
Yes. We print the logo in a shallow header and add feint ruled lines below, ideally in a pale tint of your brand colour so handwriting stays easy to read.
How many sheets should a giveaway notepad have?
Fifty sheets is the usual choice for events and giveaways. It feels substantial without being heavy in a delegate bag or expensive to post.
Can you print form fields for job sheets or treatment notes?
We can print boxes, labels and lines across the page in any layout. Send a sketch or an existing form and we will set it to A5 on your free proof.
Can I order different designs for different branches?
Yes, and it is usually more economical to run them together on one order. List each version when you ask for a custom quote and we will price them as a group.
Do glued notepads have a stiff back?
Every glued pad comes with a card backing board, so it can be written on while standing or held in one hand. Wiro pads can have a card back and a printed front cover.
Can I see the layout before you print?
Every order includes a free design proof at full size. Check the header, margins and contact details carefully, as printing starts only once you approve it.
What if a batch of pads arrives with a binding fault?
Tell us within 10 days, ideally with a photo, and we will reprint or refund the affected pads.
