Custom Business Card Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom business card boxes are small card cases that hold a stack of standard 85 x 55 mm cards, keeping them clean and square in a drawer, a bag or a client handover pack. Print studios use them to deliver finished orders, and professionals use them to store and present their own cards.

Why Cards Need Their Own Box

Loose business cards pick up dog-ears, coffee rings and scuffed corners almost as soon as they leave the printer's shrink wrap. A fitted box keeps the stack tight and lets you lift out one card at a time without fanning the rest. For anyone who meets clients often, it is the difference between handing over a crisp card and a tired one.

For print shops, the box is part of the product. A customer who ordered premium cards expects them to arrive looking premium, and a branded box with the print shop's own logo on the lid quietly advertises the shop every time the card owner opens it at a desk.

There is a quieter benefit as well. A box on a desk is a reminder to actually hand cards out. Cards left in a wallet tend to stay there, while a neat box beside the laptop is easy to grab on the way to a meeting.

Business Card Boxes Printing: Styles to Choose

The tuck-end box is the everyday option. It folds from a single piece of board, ships flat, and opens from one end with a tuck flap. It is quick to fill and economical in larger runs. Two-piece boxes with a separate lid and base feel more considered and let the owner see the whole top of the stack when opened. Slide or drawer styles push out from a sleeve and suit design studios and anyone who likes a little ceremony.

  • Tuck-end: lightweight, flat-shipping, ideal for printers sending out orders
  • Two-piece lid and base: neat desk storage and gift-style presentation
  • Sleeve and drawer: a pull-out tray that shows the stack
  • Hinged flip-top: one piece of board with an attached lid

Getting the Inside Dimensions Right

A UK card measures 85 x 55 mm. The box needs a little play around it, typically 2 mm on each side, giving an inside of about 89 x 59 mm. Depth depends on how many cards you want in the box and their thickness. A 400 gsm card is roughly 0.45 mm thick, so a stack of a hundred is about 45 mm deep; a stack of fifty is about 23 mm.

Thicker stocks, such as duplex or triplex cards at 700–900 gsm, roughly double that. Tell us the card weight and the number per box and we will work out the depth so the lid closes without squeezing the stack. Square cards and mini cards are also common, and we size boxes for those too.

If you are unsure of the exact thickness, send us one or two of your cards. Board thickness varies between mills even at the same weight, and measuring the real stock is the most reliable way to get a lid that closes cleanly.

Board and Finishes

Most boxes are made from 350–400 gsm folding board. White board takes full-colour print, while kraft board gives a natural look that suits craft and studio brands. Black-coloured board paired with a foil logo creates a sharp, minimal box.

A matt or soft-touch lamination resists scuffs in a bag. Foil stamping on the lid adds a crisp logo, and embossing can be felt as well as seen. Print studios often keep the outside plain with a small logo, so the client's own cards remain the star.

Inside the box, a simple paper wrap or a thin card divider can separate two names or two designs in the same box, which is handy for couples running a business together or for a print shop delivering cards for two staff in one order.

If the box will travel in a bag every day, choose a two-piece style or a tuck-end with a locking tab. Plain tuck flaps can work loose with constant handling, and a locking tab keeps the stack from sliding out onto the bottom of a briefcase or a laptop bag on the commute.

For agencies ordering cards for a whole team, one box design with the staff name added on a small sticker is far simpler than a separate printed box for each person, and it keeps every desk looking consistent. New starters simply get a fresh sticker on the same stock box.

Branding the Box for Print Shops

For a print shop, the card box is a recurring cost on every order, so it pays to design it once and use it everywhere. A clean lid with your logo, web address and a short credit line naming your shop works across every customer's job. Avoid anything that dates quickly, such as an offer or a launch message.

Some shops leave a small blank panel on the end or side of the box. Staff then add a sticker with the customer's name, card type and quantity, which helps at dispatch and helps the customer find the right box later if they order several designs.

If you sell several card finishes, such as standard, premium and luxury, a different coloured box per tier is an easy way to signal value without changing the size. Customers who ordered the luxury option notice the upgrade before they lift the lid, and staff can pick the right box at a glance.

Print Shops, Agents and Freelancers

Print shops and online card printers are the main buyers, ordering stock boxes in their own branding to ship every card order. Estate agents, solicitors, consultants and sales teams order boxes for staff so cards stay presentable. Event organisers and recruitment firms use them in welcome packs. Wedding and portrait photographers sometimes use the same box size to hold mini prints.

Placing an Order

Send us the card size, card weight, how many cards each box should hold, the style you prefer and your artwork. We will reply by email with a custom quote within one working day, then supply a free design proof that shows the dieline and print positions.

Production takes 4–7 working days after you approve the proof. Boxes ship flat with free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days. If anything is misprinted or damaged, report it within 10 days and we will reprint or refund. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so a print shop can trial a branded box before switching all its orders over.

Business Card Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering business card boxes.

How many cards fit in a standard box?

It depends on the stock weight. A 400 gsm card is about 0.45 mm thick, so roughly 100 cards fill a 45 mm deep box. We calculate the depth from your card weight.

What size box do I need for 85 x 55 mm cards?

An inside size of about 89 x 59 mm gives enough room to lift cards out without them sliding around. Depth is then set by the quantity.

Can you make boxes for square cards?

Yes. Send the card size and thickness, and we will size the box so the stack sits snugly.

Which style is best for a print shop sending orders out?

A tuck-end box is quick to fill, ships flat and keeps costs sensible across many orders. Many shops add their logo to the top panel.

Can I add a thumb notch to the box?

Yes, a semicircle notch on the tray or end makes it easier to grip the top card. It is a common request for two-piece boxes.

Will a soft-touch finish mark easily?

Soft-touch resists scuffs well and feels smooth in the hand. Very dark designs can show fingerprints over time, so matt lamination is an alternative.

Can I print the inside of the lid?

Inside printing is possible on most styles. A short line or pattern inside the lid is a nice detail when the box is opened.

Do you print the cards as well?

Yes, we print business cards too, so you can order both together and the colours will match.

Can I sticker each box with the client's order details?

Yes. We can leave a plain panel on the end or side of the box. Staff then add a label with the client's name and card type at dispatch.

Is there a small minimum for freelancers?

Minimums are quoted per job and kept low. A freelancer can order a modest number of branded boxes for personal use.
