A Disc and Its Paperwork in One Place

Discs are still widely used where content needs to be handed over physically: training videos, software installers, archive copies, legal records, medical imaging, wedding films and conference recordings. On their own, discs get separated from the instructions or licence keys that go with them. A folder solves that by holding the disc in a dedicated pocket next to the documents that explain it.

The folder also makes a disc look valuable. A disc in a paper sleeve can feel like an afterthought, while the same disc in a printed folder with a welcome letter and a contents sheet looks like a considered package.

There is a practical side too. A folder can be labelled on the cover or spine with a name, a course date or a reference number, so it can be filed on a shelf and found again. For records that must be kept, such as a building survey or a set of plans on disc, that matters far more than the look of the pack. Where a disc is sent without paperwork, a printed CD and DVD sleeve does the job on its own.

Layouts and Pocket Styles

The basic CD and DVD folder is an A4 presentation folder with a disc holder on one inside pocket, but there are many variations.

  • A4 folder with a disc slot cut into the right-hand pocket
  • Twin pocket folder with the disc on the left and documents on the right
  • Smaller A5 folder for slim packs and single discs
  • Folders with two or more disc slots for multi-disc sets
  • Business card slits next to the disc for a trainer or contact
  • Capacity spine for thick workbooks and manuals

Holding the Disc Securely

The disc pocket is usually a die-cut slot or a pair of curved tabs that grip the edges of the disc. It needs to hold the disc firmly enough that it will not slide out when the folder is carried upright, while still letting the user remove it without bending. We cut the slot to standard disc size and test the fit before production.

For extra protection, some customers place the disc in a thin paper or film sleeve before it goes into the folder pocket. This keeps fingerprints and scratches off the playing surface, which matters for archive discs or anything that will be handled often.

Position the slot so the disc does not sit under the fold line, where it could be pressed when the folder is closed and stacked. We usually place it centrally on the pocket, a little below the top edge, which leaves the rest of the pocket free for papers. If you also include a USB stick, a small die-cut holder can sit beside the disc so both formats travel together. Our four-panel card CD wallets suit discs that need a case of their own inside the folder.

Board, Print and Finishes

A heavy board gives the folder enough stiffness to protect the disc from bending, which can cause read errors and skipped tracks. Coated board prints photography and strong colours well; uncoated board feels natural and can be written on. Matt or soft-touch lamination protects the cover from scuffs if the folder will be handled in a classroom or office. Gloss suits bright, high-energy designs.

Foil blocking or embossing on the cover adds a premium feel for client deliverables, such as wedding films or legal archives. For training packs, clear section labels and a contents list printed on the inside help users find what they need.

The spine, if you choose one, is a useful surface in its own right. Printing the course title, client name or project number along it means folders can be shelved upright like books and identified at a glance. Keep spine text short and set it in a bold typeface, as the strip is narrow and is often read from a distance across an office. Foil and embossing options are compared on our board and finish page.

Who Uses CD and DVD Folders

Training companies hand them to course delegates with workbooks and course notes. HR teams use them for onboarding packs that include a policy disc or video. Videographers and photographers deliver wedding and event films in them. Software companies and engineering firms supply installation discs with licence documents, keeping the licence key on paper right beside the disc so it is never lost when the software is reinstalled years later. Solicitors, accountants and surveyors use them for archive copies of reports.

Hospitals and clinics provide imaging discs in folders with a covering letter, and schools use them for prospectus films and performance recordings.

Bands, choirs and theatre companies sell recordings at shows in folders printed with the programme or lyrics inside, turning a disc into a keepsake of the night. Charities send them to supporters with an annual summary and a short film, and architects hand them to clients at the end of a project with drawings and specifications. Training providers often order matching document folders without a disc slot for delegates who receive notes only.

Planning the Contents of CD and DVD Folders

Before ordering, list everything that will go inside: the disc, how many sheets, any brochure or workbook, and business cards. Measure the thickness of the full stack. A standard pocket holds a modest number of loose sheets, while a thick workbook needs a spine. This avoids pockets tearing or folders refusing to close.

Think about the order a user will meet each item. The disc on the left with instructions beside it on the right reads naturally. A short checklist printed inside the cover helps people see at a glance that their pack is complete.

If the packs are assembled by a team, a numbered contents list also makes checking easier on the day. One person can fill folders while another runs down the list, and missing items are spotted before the packs reach a delegate or a client. If the pack grows beyond a folder, printed boxes for training kits hold a disc, a workbook and samples together.

CD and DVD Folders Questions

What buyers ask before ordering CD and DVD folders.

Will the disc fall out when the folder is carried?

The slot is cut to grip a standard disc firmly. It holds the disc when the folder is upright but still lets users remove it easily.

Can I fit two discs in one folder?

Yes, folders can have two or more disc slots. They are often placed on separate pockets so the discs do not overlap.

Should the disc be in a sleeve as well?

For archive or frequently handled discs, a thin sleeve keeps fingerprints and scratches off. For one-time use it is optional.

What size folder do I need for an A4 workbook?

An A4 folder around 220 x 310 mm closed suits A4 sheets. Thick workbooks need a capacity spine.

Can the disc slot go on either side?

Yes, we can place it on the left or right pocket. The proof shows the exact position.

Is there a smaller option for a single disc?

Yes, A5 folders and square disc wallets suit slim packs with one disc and a short insert.

Can you print a contents checklist inside?

Yes, inside print is ideal for a checklist, instructions or a welcome note.

Which finish protects the folder best?

Matt or soft-touch lamination resists scuffs in classrooms and offices. Gloss suits bright designs.

How much do CD and DVD folders cost?

Cd and dvd folders start from £0.25 each, with the final figure set by size, material and print. A priced reply on your CD and DVD folders comes by email inside one working day.

Can I add a business card slit?

Yes, slits can sit beside the disc or on the document pocket.

Do the folders arrive flat?

Yes, they are delivered flat and ready to fill.
