Custom Document Folders
A printed document folder keeps a stack of A4 papers together and presents them as one tidy package, whether that is a property brochure, a proposal or a welcome pack. Our custom document folders are made from stiff card with inside pockets and card slots, printed with your brand for offices, agents and schools.

What a Document Folder Does for You
Papers handed over loose look unfinished. They get creased in a bag, separated on a desk and mixed with other paperwork. A folder solves that and also says something about the business that handed it over: that it is organised and takes the meeting seriously.
For estate agents, the folder carries property particulars, floor plans and valuation reports. For solicitors and accountants, it holds engagement letters and client paperwork. Schools and colleges use folders for prospectuses and new starter packs, and sales teams use them for proposals, price lists and contracts that a client will want to read again later.
Because it is kept and reopened, the folder works for weeks after the meeting. Your name and contact details are on the cover every time the client picks it up, which is why many firms treat folders as part of their marketing rather than an office supply.
There is a practical side too. A folder protects paperwork from rain and coffee rings, keeps pages in order when a client reads them at home, and gives them one place to file everything relating to your service. When a client returns months later with a question, they often arrive carrying the folder you gave them. For a matching set, the same artwork also works on our a4 presentation folders.
Pockets, Slots and Capacity
The standard document folder opens like a book and has a pocket on the inside right flap, sometimes on both sides. The pocket can be glued at the edges or folded and locked without glue. A business card slot cut into the pocket holds your card where the client can always find it.
For thicker packs, a capacity spine adds a few millimetres of depth so the folder closes flat around a larger bundle of papers. Without a spine, a folder is comfortable with a modest stack; with one, it can hold a full brochure, reports and inserts without bulging.
Think about how documents will be added. If your team builds packs at a desk, glued pockets give a clean edge and keep papers firmly in place. If papers are added and removed frequently during a meeting, a slightly looser pocket with a rounded cut-out at the top makes it easier to slide sheets in and out without catching corners. A simpler single pocket version is our pocket folders with one pocket.

Card, Print and Finish Choices
Most document folders are printed on 350 to 400 gsm silk or uncoated board. Silk board gives smooth, vivid colour and suits photographic covers such as property images. Uncoated board has a softer, more natural feel that suits professional services and is easy to write on if you want to add a client name by hand.
Lamination protects the outside from scuffing and finger marks, which matters for folders that travel in bags. Matt lamination looks understated and professional; gloss brings out colour. Soft-touch lamination gives a velvety feel that clients remember. Foil stamping, embossing and spot UV can lift a logo or a name on the cover without adding colour.
Colour consistency is worth checking if your folders sit alongside letterheads, brochures and signage. Supplying Pantone references for your brand colours helps us match them closely, and we flag on the proof anything that may print differently on coated and uncoated board. The gsm figures are explained in card weights explained.
Designing the Cover and Inside Panels
The front cover is the first thing the client sees, so keep it clear: your logo, perhaps a strapline and an image that reflects the business. The back is useful for contact details, office addresses, accreditations you hold and social links. Plan the spine text if you add a capacity spine, so the folder can be identified on a shelf.
The inside panels are often left plain, but they are a missed opportunity. A short welcome message, a list of services or a step-by-step guide to what happens next can be printed on the inside left flap. Under the pocket, a light pattern or brand colour gives a finished look when papers are removed.
If different teams or offices need different covers, the same folder structure can be printed in several versions within one order. A metallic logo on the front is shown on our foil stamped folders for a logo page.
Sizing for A4 and Beyond
The usual document folder holds A4 papers, so the closed size is a little larger than A4 to keep the edges of the documents tucked inside. If you also insert A5 brochures or price lists, consider a shorter second pocket or an insert slot sized for them.
Some businesses prefer a slightly smaller folder for A5 material, such as hotel welcome information or event programmes, or a larger folder for oversized plans. Tell us what goes inside and we will size the pockets so papers do not slide out when the folder is carried.
For folders posted to clients, check that the finished folder with its contents fits the envelope or mailer you already use. A folder a few millimetres too large for a standard envelope can add an unexpected postage cost on every pack sent. Architects and surveyors with larger sheets use our A3 presentation folders for drawings.
Practical Ordering Advice
Count how many folders you hand out in a typical month and plan a quantity that covers a few months, so you are not reordering too often. Order a few extra for new staff, events and exhibitions. If you are updating your branding soon, keep the run modest so stock does not go out of date.
Check your contact details on the proof carefully. Phone numbers, web addresses and email addresses printed on a folder are hard to correct once the folders are out with clients.
It also helps to agree who will own the stock. Folders spread across several desks and branches tend to run out without warning, so a single person keeping track of numbers and placing reorders avoids the last-minute rush before a big event or a busy month. Packs that must stay in order are better in our brad folders for fixed sheets.
Count the Sheets Before You Choose the Pocket
A document folder is only as good as its capacity, so count the sheets in your thickest pack before you ask for a price. Up to 20 sheets sits in a flat glued pocket; 30 to 50 needs a pocket with a 5 mm capacity gusset; more than that wants a boxed spine. Tell us that number, the folder size, usually A4 with a 5 mm overhang, and say if you want one pocket or two, a business card slot and a foil logo. Artwork is the outside cover plus anything on the inside panels, sent as vector or high-resolution files, and we return a free proof of the folder flat so you can see where the pockets fold. The quote comes by email within one working day, minimums are low and quoted per job, and folders are made in 4 to 7 working days after approval, delivered flat with pockets formed on free tracked UK mainland delivery. Folders built for long-term filing rather than presentation are our file folders for the archive.

Document Folders Questions
What buyers ask before ordering document folders.
How many sheets of A4 fit in a document folder?
A standard folder without a spine holds a modest stack comfortably. If you are handing over thicker packs, add a capacity spine so the folder closes flat.
Can a document folder have pockets on both inside flaps?
Yes, a double pocket folder has a pocket on each inside flap, which separates forms from brochures or a proposal from its pricing. Each pocket can carry its own print. The folder still folds flat for storage.
Can you add a slot for my business card?
Yes, a business card slot can be cut into one or both pockets so your card stays with the documents. Two diagonal slits hold a standard 85 x 55 mm card. Tell us if your cards are square or an unusual size.
Which board feels most professional?
A 350 to 400 gsm board with matt or soft-touch lamination is a popular choice for professional services. Uncoated board suits firms that prefer a natural feel.
Can we print different covers for different offices?
Yes, several cover versions can be printed in one order on the same folder structure, which is usually cheaper than separate orders. Each version gets its own proof. Quantities per version can differ.
Is it worth printing inside the folder?
Inside printing adds a welcome message, a list of services or a brand pattern that shows once papers are removed. It makes the folder feel complete.
Can a folder hold A5 brochures as well as A4 sheets?
Yes, we can add a shorter second pocket or an insert slot sized for A5 material inside the same cover. The A5 pocket usually sits on the left flap. Tell us the brochure thickness so the pocket has enough capacity.
Do folders arrive ready to use?
Yes, they are supplied finished with the pockets glued and formed, and packed flat in cartons for storage. Staff simply fill them. Nothing needs assembling on site.
Can you foil our logo on the cover?
Yes, foil stamping in gold, silver or a colour looks particularly sharp on a matt or soft-touch cover. Send the logo as a vector file for the foil die. The foil area is shown on the proof.
How soon can I receive document folders for a launch?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after the free proof is approved, followed by free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. Allow a few days for the proof itself. Tell us the launch date and we plan backwards from it.
