Custom Pizza Slice Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

A whole pizza box is far too big for one slice, and a paper plate does nothing to keep it warm on the walk back to a seat. Our custom pizza slice boxes are triangular cartons with a hinged lid, printed with your brand for slice shops, food stalls and stadium kiosks.

The Case for a Dedicated Slice Box

Selling pizza by the slice is fast. A customer points, pays and is gone within a minute, and the packaging has to keep up. A triangular slice box matches the shape of the food, so there is no wasted card, no slice sliding around inside and no need to fold a large box in half.

It also protects the slice in a way a plate or napkin cannot. The lid keeps the heat in for longer, stops toppings landing on clothes in a crowded concourse and lets the customer carry a slice and a drink at the same time. For delivery and click-and-collect slice orders, it gives a single portion a proper home.

And it is a branding surface. A plain plate tells the customer nothing; a printed box with your name and social handle goes back to the office, onto a train or into a photo.

For operators, a proper slice box also tidies up the back of house. Instead of stacking plates, napkins and foil, staff reach for one item that does the whole job. Waste around the venue drops because a closed box is easier to bin than a greasy plate, and cleaning teams at stadiums and festivals notice the difference. Open trays for slices eaten at a counter are covered under pizza slice trays for eat-in.

Sizing to Your Slice

Slices vary a lot. A slice from a 14-inch pizza cut into eight is a very different size from a giant New York-style slice or a deep pan wedge. Measure your typical slice from the crust edge to the point, and across the crust at its widest, then add a little room so the cheese is not pressed against the lid.

Height matters for deep or heavily topped slices. Thin-crust slices sit happily in a shallow box, while thick or stuffed crust may need extra depth so the lid closes cleanly. If you sell several styles, two box sizes usually cover the menu.

Do not forget dips and sides. Some slice shops add a small pocket or a cut-out in the box for a dip pot, so a garlic or chilli sauce travels with the slice without balancing on top. If you sell slices with a dip as standard, mention it and we will size the box to include it. Our guide to measuring a product for a box covers triangular and irregular shapes.

Board and Construction

Slice boxes are usually made from a sturdy food-grade board or a light corrugated E-flute for extra stiffness. Folding board suits thinner slices and keeps costs low, while corrugated board holds heat better and supports heavier toppings without sagging when held at one end. Food-contact grade board is available on request for the inside surface.

The common construction is a triangular tray with a lid hinged along the crust edge, closed with a tuck flap at the point. Some designs open from the back so the customer can eat straight from the box like a tray. Corner locks speed up assembly behind a busy counter.

  • Open-back slice box that doubles as a tray
  • Corrugated slice box for heavy slices
  • Double slice box for two portions
  • Slice box with a vent hole

Grease, Steam and Holding Time

A hot slice gives off steam and oil. Too much trapped steam softens the base, and oil can mark the board. Small vent holes in the lid let some steam escape so the crust stays crisper during a short walk. A greaseproof liner or a coated inner surface reduces oil marks on the box itself.

Slice boxes are built for short holding times. They keep a slice warm and tidy on the way to a seat or a desk, which is exactly what most slice shops need. If you are sending slices further, pair the box with an insulated bag or carrier.

If slices are held in a heated cabinet before boxing, box them at the last moment rather than in advance. A slice boxed and left on a hot shelf steams itself soft, while one boxed as it is handed over arrives at the table close to how it left the oven. A greaseproof pizza box liner under the slice keeps the base from sticking to the board.

Printing Ideas for Slice Shops

The lid is the main print area, and a big, bold logo is often all it needs. Many slice shops use a single colour on kraft or white board for a classic look that keeps costs down. Others go full colour with illustrations, menu highlights or a loyalty stamp area printed on the lid so customers can collect a free slice.

Use the inside of the lid for a surprise: a joke, a menu of other slices, a reminder to tag you online or a QR code for ordering ahead. At stadiums and venues, a sponsor logo or the team's colours can be added for match days.

Keep the design readable at speed. People see your box in passing, in someone's hand on a concourse or on a desk across an office, so a large, simple mark carries further than detailed artwork. Bright colours on white board or a single strong ink on kraft both work well from a distance. One strong ink on kraft against full colour on white is compared in the print and finish options guide.

Assembly at the Counter

Slice boxes arrive flat and are folded at the counter as needed. Folding a stack before service, rather than one at a time while the customer waits, keeps the queue moving. Designs with pre-glued or crash-lock corners take seconds to pop open and are worth considering for very busy sites.

Store flat stock somewhere dry and away from ovens so the board does not curl, and keep the folded boxes stacked lid-down near the hot cabinet for quick service.

If you trade from a market stall or food truck with little storage, choose a box size that fits your available shelf or crate. A slightly smaller box that stores neatly is often more practical than a larger one that has to be kept in a van. Full-size boxes from the same supplier are covered on the custom pizza boxes for whole pizzas page.

Cut a Slice From Your Largest Pizza and Trace It

Slice boxes are triangular, so the width of the crust end and the length to the point are what matter, and they come from your largest pizza, not your standard one. Cut a slice from an 18 inch if you sell it, lay it on paper and trace it, then measure the trace and the height of the thickest topping. A box sized to that slice takes every smaller slice too, with a little room for a dip pot if you add one. Tell us your weekly volume and whether slices are eaten in the seat or carried.

Send the slice size, the board preference, your print ideas and the weekly quantity, and a custom quote comes within one working day, with prices from £0.25 per box. The free design proof comes first; production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. Boxes that arrive misprinted or damaged are reprinted or refunded if reported within 10 days, and minimums are quoted per job. Shops that also sell a whole small pizza use the matching small pizza boxes for personal pizzas.

Pizza Slice Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering pizza slice boxes.

How do I measure a slice for the box?

Measure from the crust edge to the point and across the crust at its widest, then note the height including toppings. We add a little clearance so the lid does not press on the cheese.

Will the box keep a slice warm?

It keeps a slice warm for the short walk to a seat or desk. Corrugated board holds heat a little better than thinner folding board.

Can you add vent holes?

Yes, small vents in the lid let steam escape so the base stays crisper. They are popular with slice shops serving crisp-based pizza.

Does grease come through the card?

A grease-resistant coating or a greaseproof liner reduces oil marks considerably. For very oily toppings, a liner is the most reliable option.

Can a slice box fold back into a tray at a stadium seat?

Yes. The open-back style has a lid that folds flat behind the base to make a tray, so the slice can be eaten in a seat without a plate. The hinge is scored on the proof so it folds the same way every time.

Can I print a loyalty stamp area on the lid?

Yes, a printed panel for stamps encourages repeat visits and costs nothing extra if it is part of the design.

Does a hot slice placed straight on the board need food-contact grade board?

Yes, because the base of the slice touches the inner surface. A food-contact grade board can be specified on request for the inner face, and a greaseproof liner is an alternative for shops that already stock them.

Do you make boxes for two slices?

Yes, a double slice box holds two slices side by side and suits meal deals.

Are slice boxes quick to fold during service?

Crash-lock corners make them very quick to open. Many shops fold a stack before the rush to keep the queue moving.

What does a pizza slice box cost?

Prices start from £0.25 per box and depend on size, board and quantity. Send your details for a custom quote within one working day.
