Custom Pizza Slice Trays
Not every slice needs a lid. When customers eat standing at the counter, wandering round a festival or perching at a high table, an open card tray is quicker to serve and easier to eat from. Our custom pizza slice trays are printed open trays that hold one slice firmly, made for slice bars, events and food stalls.

Open Trays for Eat-Now Service
A slice tray is a shallow card tray, usually triangular or wedge shaped, with low walls on the sides and an open top. The slice goes in, the customer takes it, and it is eaten within minutes. There is no lid to fold, no flap to tuck and no need for a plate. For a high-volume counter, those seconds saved on every sale add up quickly.
The tray also does what a napkin or paper plate cannot. The walls stop toppings sliding off the edge, the stiff base supports the slice so the tip does not droop, and the card keeps fingers away from hot cheese. Customers can hold the tray in one hand and a drink in the other.
Trays are the natural choice where slices are eaten on the spot. If customers are walking further, or taking slices back to an office, a lidded slice box is the better fit.
Trays also make portion presentation consistent. Every slice sits in the same shaped base, at the same angle, which makes a counter display tidy and helps staff move quickly. For operators selling slices from a hot cabinet, trays can even be used to hold slices under the glass, then handed straight over the counter. Chips and sides sold beside the slices usually go in paper food boats in the same print.
Where Slice Trays Earn Their Place
Slice bars and pizza counters use them for walk-in trade and lunch rushes. Festivals, sports venues and markets use them because customers eat as they walk and bins are close by. Catering for weddings, parties and corporate events uses trays for late-night pizza, served quickly to a crowd. Student unions, cinemas and bowling alleys use them for snack counters.
At outdoor events, speed is everything. Queues build quickly during interval breaks and after the main act, and an open tray lets staff serve a slice in the time it takes to take payment. Fewer components behind the counter also means less to restock during the rush.
Indoor leisure venues value trays for a different reason: they are easy to carry to a table or lane without spills, and staff can clear them quickly afterwards. Venues that sell whole pizzas too keep the lid print consistent with their printed pizza boxes.

Tray Shapes and Construction
Triangular trays follow the shape of a slice closely and use the least card. Rectangular trays suit square-cut slices, Roman-style and Sicilian pizza, and also double up for other foods like garlic bread or chips. Boat-shaped trays with higher sides hold heavily topped slices and any sauce that runs off.
Most trays are die-cut from a single sheet and folded at the corners, either locked with tabs or glued so they arrive ready to use. Pre-glued trays are faster at the counter; flat trays with locking corners take up less storage space. A thumb notch at the crust end makes the slice easier to pick up.
Think about how trays will be held. A slightly raised crust end, or a fold that creates a small handle, gives customers something to grip. For children's portions, a smaller tray with higher walls stops slices sliding off. Our guide to measuring food for packaging covers overhang and wall height.
Board, Grease and Heat
A slice tray needs to be stiff enough to support a hot, oily slice without bending. A food-grade folding board of around 300 to 400 gsm works for most slices, while a light corrugated board suits extra-large or deep slices. Food-contact grade board is available on request.
Grease is the main enemy. An uncoated tray can show oil spots within a minute. A grease-resistant coating on the inner surface, or a greaseproof liner placed under the slice, keeps the tray looking clean while it is being eaten. For very oily toppings, a liner is the most dependable option.
Heat can also make a tray feel hot to hold. A slightly thicker board, or a corrugated base for large slices, insulates fingers from the heat of the slice and keeps the tray comfortable for the few minutes it takes to eat.
Printing Open Trays
With no lid, the printed surfaces are the outside walls and the underside, plus the inner base around the edges of the slice. A logo on the outer walls is visible as the tray is carried; a pattern on the inside shows once the slice is eaten, which is a good place for a social handle or a message to come back.
One or two spot colours on white or kraft board keep costs low and look bold. Full-colour printing suits venues with strong brand artwork or sponsorship. At events, trays can carry the event name, the date or sponsor logos as a low-cost promotional extra.
Keep artwork simple and bold, as trays are seen briefly and from a distance. A single strong logo repeated on each wall reads well whether the tray is held in a hand, set down on a table or dropped in a bin. Upload the logo through the free proof request and we will show it on each wall.
Sizing Your Trays
Measure your standard slice from crust to tip and across the crust, and allow a little room for the slice to sit without hanging over the edge. Wall height of 15 to 25 mm is usually enough to keep toppings in. For square slices, measure length and width instead.
If you serve both standard and giant slices, two tray sizes cover most menus. Check how trays will be stored near your counter and choose a size that stacks neatly in the space you have.
A tray that is slightly smaller than the slice, with the crust overhanging a little, can work well for giant slices because it saves card and makes the slice easier to pick up by the crust. The same greaseproof sheet used under a slice is sold as printed pizza box liners.
Cut Your Biggest Slice and Lay It on the Dieline
Slice trays are quick to specify if you start from the slice: cut your largest standard slice, measure crust to tip and across the crust, and we draw the triangle so the crust overhangs a little for gripping. Decide pre-glued or flat with locking corners by your counter space, and say how oily your toppings are, which decides coating or liner.
Square slices get the rectangular tray in the same print. Send the slice sizes, tray shape, board choice and weekly quantity with the artwork, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with trays from £0.25 and minimums quoted per job. The free proof shows the print on the walls and the inside base. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, taking 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged trays reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Customers who carry a slice back to the office get the lidded pizza slice boxes with a hinged lid.

Pizza Slice Trays Questions
What buyers ask before ordering pizza slice trays.
When should I use a tray instead of a slice box?
Trays suit slices eaten on the spot, at the counter or while walking around an event. A lidded box is better when customers carry the slice further.
Will the tray bend under a hot slice?
A board of around 300 to 400 gsm keeps the tray stiff, and corrugated board is available for very large or deep slices. The giant triangle in our size table is made on the heavier grade.
How do I stop grease showing through?
A grease-resistant inner coating or a greaseproof liner under the slice keeps the tray clean while the slice is eaten. For pepperoni and other oily toppings the liner is the dependable choice.
Can trays be supplied ready to use?
Yes, pre-glued trays arrive formed and ready. Flat trays with locking corners save storage space.
Can I use the same tray for garlic bread?
Rectangular trays work well for garlic bread, pizza strips and other sides as well as square slices. Ordering them in the same print keeps the counter consistent.
Does a 300 mm giant slice need corrugated board or will folding board do?
At that size a hot slice bends folding board at the tip, so the giant triangle is made on light corrugated, which also keeps fingers cooler. Standard 220 mm slices are fine on 350 gsm board. Food-contact grade board is available on request for either.
Can you print sponsor logos for an event?
Yes, event names, dates and sponsor logos can be printed on the outer walls or base. A short event run can sit alongside your plain branded tray in one order.
How high should the tray walls be?
Walls of around 15 to 25 mm keep toppings in place for most slices. Deeper trays suit heavily topped slices.
Do you make kraft slice trays?
Yes, kraft board with a single dark ink gives a classic street food look. It also hides the odd grease mark better than white.
What does a pizza slice tray cost?
Prices start from £0.25 per tray depending on size and quantity. Send your details for a custom quote within one working day.
