Custom Kraft Stand-Up Pouches for Natural Food Brands
Custom kraft stand-up pouches pair a brown paper outer with a lined inside, so they look honest and handmade on the shelf while keeping dry food fresh. A gusseted base lets them stand on their own, and a zip means customers can reseal them after every scoop.

What Sits Behind the Kraft Paper
The brown face you see is only the outer layer. Behind it sits a laminated liner, chosen to suit what goes inside. A clear polyethylene liner is the everyday option for granola, rice, pasta and dried fruit. A metallised layer blocks more light and moisture for coffee beans, loose tea and spices whose flavour fades quickly. A full aluminium foil layer gives the highest barrier, which matters for powders and anything that clumps when damp.
Choosing the liner first saves trouble later. A pouch that looks right but lets coffee go stale in a fortnight will cost far more in returns and lost repeat orders than the small difference between liner grades. If you are not sure, tell us what the product is, how long it should last once packed, and whether it is oily, sharp or powdery, and we will suggest a build that suits it.
Kraft pouches suit businesses whose story is about ingredients rather than gloss: small-batch roasters, granola kitchens, herbal tea blenders, pet treat bakers, refill-shop suppliers and farm shops packing their own oats or flour.
Because the outer is paper, the pouch feels slightly soft and warm in the hand rather than slick like plastic. That tactile difference is a large part of why shoppers reach for it, so it is worth keeping finishes restrained and letting the kraft texture do some of the selling for you. Brands often pair them with printed stand-up pouches so the whole order arrives in one look.
Zips, Valves, Notches and Windows
Most kraft stand-up pouches carry a press-to-close zip just below the top seal, with a tear notch above it so the first opening is clean. For coffee, a one-way degassing valve lets freshly roasted beans release gas without letting air back in, which stops the pouch from puffing up on the shelf.
A window is popular because shoppers like to see texture: whole beans, oat clusters, dried petals or bright lentils. Windows come as a rectangle, a rounded slot or a custom shape that echoes your logo. Keep in mind that light gets through the window, so it suits products that are sold quickly rather than stored for months. Roasters who want a fold-over closure instead of a zip order tin-tie coffee bags in the same kraft.
- Press-to-close zip for daily resealing

Sizing a Kraft Stand-Up Pouch by Weight and Volume
Pouches are usually described by fill weight, but volume is what really decides the size. A hundred grams of loose tea fills far more space than a hundred grams of rice, and whole coffee beans take up more room than ground coffee. The safest approach is to fill a sample pouch or a measuring jug with your product and tell us the volume, or let us send a plain pouch for a test fill.
Leave headroom above the product so the zip can close without trapping crumbs, and so the top seal has a clean strip of film to grip. A pouch that is filled right to the zip will not stand neatly and often splits along the seal under pressure. The base gusset also matters: a deeper gusset gives a wider footprint and a more stable pouch on a sloping shelf. The fill-and-measure routine is the one in our guide to measuring for packaging.
Printing on Brown Paper
Kraft paper is not white, so inks behave differently. Dark colours such as black, navy, forest green and deep red print boldly and look natural. Light colours and fine pastels sink into the brown and appear muted, which can be a lovely effect for a rustic brand but disappointing if you expected bright yellow.
When you need a bright colour or a clean photo, we can lay down a white ink underneath that area so the colour sits on white rather than brown. Many brands use this selectively: the logo and product name pop on a white base while the rest of the pouch shows the raw kraft. A matt finish keeps the papery feel; spot gloss on the logo adds contrast without losing the natural look.
Your proof will show which areas carry a white base, so there are no surprises when the pouches arrive. Where the back of the pouch should be a solid brand colour rather than brown, the colour-backed stand-up pouches do that without a white underprint.
Labels, Variants and Short Runs
If you sell several flavours or blends, you do not always need a separate printed pouch for each one. A common approach is to print the brand, the story and the legal panel once, then add a small flavour label or a coloured sticker for each variant. That keeps stock simple and lets you launch a new blend without a new print order.
When a product line is settled and selling well, moving each flavour to its own fully printed pouch looks more polished and saves labelling time on packing day. We can quote both routes so you can compare the costs and decide which suits your volumes now.
Whichever route you take, plan the back panel carefully. Ingredients, allergens, a best-before area and a barcode all need room, and they must stay readable against brown paper. Many brands leave a plain rectangle where a date and batch code can be stamped or stickered at packing time, so the same printed pouch works for every production day without reprinting. The free proof shown on the pouch outline makes it easy to check where a flavour label will sit.
Filling, Sealing and Storage Tips
Pouches arrive flat with the top open, ready for filling. Fill through the top, press the zip closed, then heat seal the strip above it with an impulse sealer for a tamper-evident finish. Keep empty pouches boxed and away from damp storerooms, as kraft paper can absorb moisture and cockle if left in a humid space.
Once filled, store pouches upright in a cool place. Stacking them flat under heavy cartons can crush the gusset and stop them standing properly when they reach the shop. Filling and sealing advice is the same for every pouch in our bags and pouches range.
Choose the Liner From the Shelf Life You Need
The liner behind the kraft is the first thing to settle, and the question that decides it is how long the product must stay fresh once sealed. A granola sold within a month is fine with a clear polythene liner; whole bean coffee that sits in a shop for three months needs a foil liner and a one-way valve; tea and spices sit in between with a metallised liner. Then fill a plain pouch with your portion to check the headroom, and ask for a window only where light will not fade the contents. Pouches that must stand square on a shelf rather than lean back are the flat-bottom pouches with a box base.
Send the artwork with a white underprint marked where bright colours or photographs need it. Email the product, fill weight, liner, features and quantity and a custom quote comes back within one working day, followed by a free design proof. Pouches are made in 4 to 7 working days once approved and delivered flat, free and tracked, on the UK mainland in 2 to 3 days. Pouches with faulty seals or print reported within 10 days are replaced or refunded.

Kraft Stand-Up Pouches Questions
What buyers ask before ordering kraft Stand-Up pouches.
Which liner should I choose for whole coffee beans?
A metallised or foil liner with a one-way valve is the usual choice. It blocks light and air while letting the beans release gas after roasting.
Why does my light green look dull on kraft?
Brown paper shows through pale inks. We can print a white base under that area so the green sits on white and stays bright, which the proof will show.
Can I see the product through a kraft pouch?
Yes, with a window. Rectangles, rounded slots and shapes that match your logo are all possible, though windows let light in, so they suit faster-selling lines.
How much headroom should I leave above the product?
Enough that the zip closes without trapping crumbs and the top seal has a clean strip to grip. A test fill with a plain pouch is the easiest way to judge it.
Do the pouches arrive ready to fill?
They arrive flat, open at the top and sealed at the base. You fill them, close the zip and heat seal the top strip for a tamper-evident finish.
Can one printed pouch cover several flavours?
Many brands print the main design once and add a small flavour label for each variant. It keeps stock simple while the range is still growing.
What do you need from me to quote a kraft stand-up pouch?
The product, its fill weight or volume, the liner you want and any features such as a zip, valve or window, plus a rough quantity per design. With that we reply with a custom quote by email within one working day; a photo of the product in your current bag helps with the sizing.
Will a kraft pouch stand up on its own when half empty?
The gusseted base keeps it upright, especially with a deeper gusset. Very light products in tall pouches can lean once mostly used, so a wider, shorter size may suit them better.
Is there a white kraft option?
Yes, a white kraft outer keeps the papery texture but gives a lighter background, so colours print brighter without a separate white underlay.
How should I store empty pouches before filling?
Keep them boxed in a dry room. Kraft paper can absorb moisture in a damp storeroom, which makes the surface cockle and harder to seal neatly.
What if some pouches arrive with faulty seals?
Send photos of the affected kraft stand-up pouches within 10 days and we will reprint or refund them. Check a few from each carton when the delivery arrives.
