Custom Vest Boxes With Display Windows
Custom vest boxes are slim, flat cartons with a front window that shows a folded vest, tank top or base layer, so shoppers can see the fabric, colour and neckline before they buy. They give basics and sportswear the same shelf presence as a boxed shirt.

Turning a Basic Into a Product
A plain vest in a polybag is hard to sell on its own. It looks like every other vest, it slides off shelves and it gives no sense of quality. Put the same garment in a crisp printed box with a window, and suddenly it reads as a product: the fabric is framed, the size and fit are spelled out on the panel, and the brand is unmissable. That shift is why basics brands and gym wear labels move to boxed packaging when they start selling in shops or at a higher price.
Boxes also make multipacks easier. A two or three pack of vests folded neatly into a flat box is simpler to stack, display and ship than a bundle held together with a card band.
There is a practical upside for the stockroom as well. Boxed vests stack in neat columns by size and colour, stay clean through repeated handling and are quick to count during stocktakes. Polybags slip and slide, crease the garment and end up in an untidy pile on the bottom shelf, which makes even a good vest look tired by the time it reaches the shop floor.
Box Designs for Vests and Tanks
Most vest boxes are flat with a large window on the front panel, sometimes cut to echo a vest neckline or a brand shape. Some open from the end with a tuck flap, so a garment slides in on a backing card, the same way our printed shirt boxes load. Others are two-piece lid and base boxes with the window in the lid, which feel more premium and are easy to reopen in store for try-on questions.

Folding and Sizing
Start with the fold. Decide how the vest will be folded for retail, usually with the straps and neckline facing the window, and fold a few sizes to the same footprint, following the guide to measuring your product for the clearance. A folding board helps staff repeat the fold exactly. Measure the folded garment length, width and thickness, then add a few millimetres all round so it slides in without creasing.
Thickness varies a lot between a fine rib cotton vest and a thermal base layer, and a multipack can be several times deeper than a single. If you sell a range of fabric weights, a single box size with a slightly generous depth can cover most of them, or we can make a slim and a deep version from the same artwork.
Packing speed is worth thinking about early. If your team boxes hundreds of vests a week, an end-opening carton with a backing card is usually faster than a lid and base, because the garment slides in on the card in one movement. For lower volumes and a more premium finish, the extra seconds of a two-piece box are easily justified. We can make a quick sample of each style so you can time them on your own packing bench.
Board, Window and Insert Choices
Vest boxes are usually made from white SBS board, which keeps the box crisp and takes print well. Kraft board suits organic cotton lines and workwear-inspired brands; the board and card types guide compares the two. A backing card inside, sometimes with a folded tab to hold the garment, keeps the vest flat and centred behind the window.
Windows are covered with a clear film, glued to the inside of the panel, which keeps dust off the fabric and lets shoppers look without touching. If you prefer an open cut-out so customers can feel the fabric, it can be left unfilmed, though the garment is then exposed to handling. We will show the window size and position on your proof.
For heavier thermal fabrics, a slightly heavier board stops the front panel bowing around the window.
Communicating Size and Fit
The panels around the window are prime space for the information shoppers look for: size, fit, fabric and care. Make the size large and easy to find, ideally in the same spot on every box so customers can scan a shelf quickly, as on our printed leggings boxes for the same brands. A small icon set for features such as moisture wicking or seam-free knit says more than a paragraph of text. A simple fit illustration on the side panel helps customers choose between slim and regular.
If you sell several sizes in one design, a size panel or sticker space avoids printing separate boxes for every size. We can design the box with a printed size grid where the correct size is marked, or a clear spot for a size label.
Print and Finish for Apparel Brands
Clean, confident print works best for basics. A strong brand colour, a large logo and plenty of space let the garment do the talking through the window. Matt lamination gives a modern, understated feel, while soft touch suits premium underwear and loungewear. Sportswear brands often use gloss and bold contrast to hold their own on busy shop walls, and the print and finish options compared page shows the difference. Foil or spot UV on the logo adds a premium accent without clutter.
Remember the back panel. It is where customers turn the box over for fabric content and care, and it is also where you can tell a short story about the fabric or the brand.
Children's ranges suit brighter palettes and simple illustrations, with the age range shown as clearly as the size on adult boxes. Workwear and thermal lines, by contrast, tend to use darker colours and practical icons that explain warmth or durability at a glance.
Fold Three Sizes to One Footprint Before Fixing the Box
A vest box only works if every size folds to the same footprint, so start at the folding table rather than the ruler. Fold a small, a medium and the largest size you sell with the neckline facing up, adjusting the side folds until all three land on the same rectangle, then measure that rectangle and the thickest fold. That footprint, plus a few millimetres, is the box; a backing card keeps the garment centred behind the window. Decide if the window is cut plain or to echo the neckline, and if the box hangs on a peg, which needs a euro slot.
Send the folded garment sizes, the box style and the number of designs or sizes with a quantity for each, and a custom quote comes back by email within one working day, minimums quoted per job so a small label can start with one colourway. A free design proof shows the window placement and all panels. Production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval and free tracked delivery reaches UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. Labels with a thermal layer in the range often add deeper textile boxes to the same run.

Vest Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering vest boxes.
Should the vest show the neckline or the chest in the window?
Most brands fold the vest so the neckline and straps face the window, because that shows the cut and fit. Fabric texture is visible either way.
Can the window be shaped like a vest?
Yes. The window can be cut to echo a vest neckline or another shape. Very complex shapes may need simplifying for a clean cut.
How do I keep the vest centred in the box?
A backing card, sometimes with a fold-over tab, holds the garment flat and centred behind the window. A folding board helps staff fold consistently.
Can one box design cover several sizes?
Yes. Use a printed size grid with the size marked, or leave a panel for a size sticker. It avoids printing a separate box for each size.
Is film needed in the window?
Film keeps dust off the garment and stops handling marks. An open window lets shoppers touch the fabric but leaves it exposed.
What box works for multipacks?
A deeper version of the same box, or a sleeve and tray, holds two or three vests neatly. We size it from your folded pack.
Can vest boxes hang on a peg?
A euro slot can be added to the top so the box hangs on retail pegs. The garment then needs to be held firmly by a backing card.
Which finish suits sportswear?
Gloss with bold colour reads well on busy sports walls. Matt or soft touch suits premium base layers and loungewear.
Can fabric and care details go on the box?
Yes. The back panel is the place for fabric content, care symbols and a short brand story. Keep it on a light background for easy reading.
How soon can vest boxes be ready for a store launch?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after proof approval and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days. Send a folded sample with the enquiry so the proof is right first time and the launch date holds.
What if window film is loose on some boxes?
Report any faulty or damaged boxes within 10 days with a photo and we reprint or refund them. Check a few boxes from each carton when the order lands, since a film fault tends to show across one run.
