Custom Soap Labels

from £0.25 a labelPriced per job · low minimums

Handmade soap is often sold almost naked, with a printed band or label doing all the work of branding and legal information. We print custom soap labels as wrap-around bands, belly bands and stick-on labels, sized to your bars and made from materials that cope with a little moisture and natural oils.

Bands, Wraps and Stick-On Labels

Soap makers usually choose between three ways of labelling a bar. A wrap-around band is a strip of paper that circles the bar and is fixed with a dab of glue or a small sticker at the back. A self-adhesive label sticks directly to a box, a wrap of paper or a shrink film. A full wrap covers most of the bar, folded at the ends like a parcel.

Bands are the most popular for handmade soap because they let customers see and smell the bar. They also leave the soap free to breathe, which matters for cold process bars that are still curing slightly when they go on sale. Stick-on labels suit soaps sold in boxes, glassine bags or shrink wrap, where the label goes on the packaging rather than the soap itself.

Many makers use both: a band for market stalls and a small label on a box for gift sets and online orders. Makers who prefer a paper wrap to a sticker can look at printed custom soap sleeves for handmade bars.

Measuring Your Bars for a Band

To size a band, measure around the bar at the point where the band will sit. That is the width plus the height, doubled. Add 10 to 15 mm of overlap at the back for glue or a sticker. The band's height, meaning how far it covers the bar's face, is a design choice: a narrow band of 30 to 40 mm shows more soap, while a wider band gives more room for text.

Handmade bars are rarely identical, especially when cut by hand from a loaf. Measure several bars and use the largest, then allow a couple of millimetres extra so the band does not tear when it goes around a slightly bigger bar. Round and oval bars, or bars with bevelled edges, need a band with a little more slack. Our guide to measuring products accurately covers how to measure a bar that is not quite square.

  • Standard rectangular bar, 90 x 60 x 25 mm: band around 185 mm long
  • Chunky loaf-cut bar, 85 x 65 x 35 mm: band around 215 mm long
  • Round bar, 75 mm across: band cut longer with a soft curve
  • Guest soaps and samples: small stick-on labels or mini bands

Fitting the Legal Text Without Losing the Look

Soap sold as a cosmetic needs certain information on its label, and the ingredient list in particular can be long. On a band, the back section where the ends overlap is a natural home for ingredients, weight, batch number and your business details. The front stays free for your brand, the soap name and perhaps a scent description.

Small type is fine on a label so long as it stays legible. We suggest around 6 pt for ingredient lists in a plain font, with good contrast against the background. If you sell many scents, keep the layout identical and change only the soap name, colour accent and ingredient block, so each new label is quick to set up.

Leaving a small blank area for a batch code and weight, which you can stamp or write by hand, saves reprinting labels whenever a new batch is made. The same layout tricks apply to custom labels for scented candles, which carry similar warning text.

Paper or Film: Which Suits Soap?

Uncoated paper is the classic choice for soap bands. It has a natural, handmade feel, takes rubber stamps and handwriting well, and suits most artisan brands. It can mark if it touches wet soap, so bands are usually added once bars are fully cured and dry.

For bars sold in steamy bathrooms or kept on display for a long time, a coated paper or a laminated label resists moisture and natural oils better. Self-adhesive labels can be printed on white paper, kraft-look paper or a clear film. Clear film gives a no-label look on boxes and glassine bags, while kraft-look paper suits the earthy style many soap makers prefer. For damp bathrooms, BOPP film labels that resist water hold up better than plain paper.

One Design, Many Scents

Most soap makers sell several varieties, and a well-planned label range makes the display look organised. A common approach is a single master design, with each scent given its own colour band or illustration. Lavender gets a soft purple, charcoal gets black, citrus gets yellow, and so on. Shoppers learn to find their favourite by colour.

We can print several versions within one order, so you do not need a separate run for every scent. Tell us the scent names and the ingredient list for each, and we set each label on the proof for you to check.

If you add new scents later, keeping the same template means the new labels slot straight into your range. A raised logo can tie a range together, and our embossed labels with a raised finish add that texture.

Labels for Boxed and Wrapped Soap

Not every bar is sold with a simple band. Gift sets, shampoo bars and soaps sent by post often go into a small box, a glassine bag or a paper wrap, and the label then goes on the outside. In that case a self-adhesive label is easier than a band, and it can be sized to fit the front of the box or the fold of the bag.

A round label works well as a seal on a paper wrap, holding the folded ends closed while carrying your logo. A rectangular label suits the front of a box and can include the scent, weight and a short description, with the ingredients on a second label at the back or printed on the box itself.

If you sell the same soap both banded and boxed, keep the artwork consistent between the two formats. Customers who find you at a market and then order online will recognise the design straight away, and your stall and your parcels will feel like the same brand. Bars sold in cartons can go into our printed custom soap boxes with the label on the front.

Ordering Soap Labels for Your Range

Send us your bar measurements, the type of label you want, and your artwork or a rough idea of the design. We reply with a custom quote by email within one working day, including the minimum for your chosen format. Minimums are low, so a maker selling at local markets can order modest quantities of each scent.

You will see a free design proof showing every version before we print. Once you approve, production takes four to seven working days, followed by free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in two to three working days. Bands arrive flat and cut to size, while stick-on labels come on sheets or rolls. If anything is misprinted or damaged, report it within ten days for a reprint or refund.

Soap Labels Questions

What buyers ask before ordering soap labels.

How long should a soap band be?

Measure around the bar where the band sits, then add 10 to 15 mm for the overlap at the back. For hand-cut bars, size the band to your largest bar plus a couple of millimetres.

Will a paper band stain from the soap?

Plain paper can mark if it touches fresh or damp soap, so add bands once the bars are fully cured. If your bars are oily or sold in humid places, a coated or laminated band resists marks better.

Can I print different scents in one order?

Yes. We print several versions within one order and set each on the proof. Usually only the soap name, colour accent and ingredient list change between versions.

Where should the ingredient list go on a band?

The back section, where the ends overlap, is the usual place. It keeps the front clean for your brand while the full list is easy to find when the customer turns the bar over.

Can I write batch numbers on the labels myself?

Yes. We can leave a blank area on uncoated paper where you can stamp or write the batch number and weight, which saves reprinting labels for each batch.

Do you supply the bands pre-cut?

Yes. Bands arrive flat and cut to size, ready to wrap. Self-adhesive labels arrive on sheets or rolls depending on how you apply them.

How do I fix a band in place?

Most makers use a small dab of glue, a glue dot or a round sticker over the overlap. We can print matching seal stickers with your logo if you would like a neat finish.

What paper looks most handmade?

Uncoated or kraft-look paper gives the most natural, handmade look. It also takes rubber stamps and pen well, which suits small batch producers.

Can I have foil on soap labels?

Yes, on coated and some uncoated papers. A small foil logo or soap name gives a premium feel, especially on gift sets.

How quickly can I have labels for a new scent?

After you approve the free proof, printing takes four to seven working days, and free tracked delivery to the UK mainland takes two to three working days.

What if the labels are the wrong size?

Labels are cut to the size shown on the approved proof. If they arrive misprinted or damaged, tell us within ten days and we reprint or refund them.
