from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom soap boxes are folding cartons made to the exact size of your bar, printed in kraft or white board with your brand, scent and ingredients. From a kitchen-table maker to a busy production line, the box keeps bars clean, protects the edges and tells shoppers what is inside.

Kraft or White: Choosing the Board

The first decision is the look of the board itself. Brown kraft has a natural, handmade feel and suits cold-process bars, goat milk soaps and anything sold at markets or in farm shops. Printing on kraft is slightly muted because the board is not bright white, so bold dark colours and simple line artwork look best. White board gives cleaner, brighter colour and suits brands with photography, pastel palettes or a clinical, skincare look.

Both boards come in different thicknesses. A heavier board resists crushing in a gift basket and feels more solid in the hand, while a lighter board keeps the cost down for high-volume bars. If your soap contains oils that might mark the card, we can add a coated inside face. The board colours and weights we stock are shown side by side on our finish page.

Styles That Suit Soap Bars

Soap is a simple shape, but there are several ways to box it, and each suits a different kind of brand.

  • Tuck end cartons, the classic choice, quick to fill and easy to stack on a shelf
  • Sleeves that slide over a bar wrapped in paper, letting the scent come through
  • Window boxes with a die-cut shape on the front so the colour and swirl show
  • Boxes with small die-cut holes so the fragrance reaches the shopper
  • Two-piece lid and base boxes for gift sets of two or three bars
  • Pillow-shaped boxes for round or oval soaps

Measuring Your Bar for a Snug Fit

Handmade bars vary slightly from one batch to another, so measure several and work from the largest. Take the length, width and height in millimetres, then add 2 to 3 mm to the length and width so the bar slides in without catching the corners. A box that is too loose lets the bar move and chip its edges; one that is too tight scuffs the surface and slows down packing.

If you sell round, oval or shaped bars, give us the widest and deepest points rather than the average. For bars with a stamped logo on the face, a window is a good way to show that detail without opening the box. We check every size against the measurements you send and flag anything that looks tight on the proof. Round and oval bars that need a shaped carton are covered on our bar soap boxes for shaped bars page.

What to Print on Custom Soap Boxes

Shoppers pick up soap to smell it and turn it over to read it, so the panels need to work hard. The front carries the brand and scent name. The back or side is the natural place for the ingredient list, net weight and any allergen notes. A short line about the scent profile, such as citrus and cedar or lavender and oat, helps someone choose without unwrapping.

Many soap makers keep one box design and change only the scent name and a colour band for each variety. That keeps print costs sensible and builds a recognisable shelf. Others prefer a fully different design per scent. Both approaches work, and we can quote either.

Leave some breathing space around the text. Soap boxes are small, and a panel crammed with claims, icons and long sentences becomes hard to read at arm's length. A clear scent name, one line of description, the weight and the ingredients are usually enough. If you have a story to tell about how the soap is made, a printed card tucked into a gift set gives it room without crowding the box. Makers who sell a story card with each bar often add lidded soap boxes for gift sets to the range.

Packing, Storage and Shelf Life of the Boxes

Flat boxes take up very little room, which suits makers working from a spare bedroom or a small unit. Keep them somewhere dry and away from direct sunlight, as card can soak up humidity from a steamy workshop and kraft can fade on a sunny windowsill. Most soap makers box bars only once they have finished curing, since a bar that is still sweating moisture can mark the inside of the carton.

For speed on packing days, fold a batch of boxes in advance and stand them open in a tray. A tuck end carton then takes a few seconds per bar. If you ship soap by post, the printed box goes inside a small mailer or padded bag, and a strip of tissue around the bar stops it rubbing. Shops that stock your soap will appreciate boxes that stand upright and face forward, so make sure the logo reads the right way up when the box sits on its base.

Think too about how the bars will be displayed. On a shelf, boxes are usually placed front-on, so the narrow end panels matter less. In a basket or a tray on a market stall, people see the top and sides, so a scent name on the end flap or lid helps. Tell us how you sell and we will place the key information where shoppers actually look. Smaller makers selling at markets usually start with our kraft boxes for handmade soap in one scent.

Finishes That Suit Bath and Body Brands

Matt finishes are popular in soap packaging because they look calm and natural. A soft-touch lamination makes white boxes feel velvety and premium. On kraft, a single foil colour such as copper or gold adds warmth without hiding the board. Embossing a logo or a botanical motif works well on both boards and costs nothing in extra ink.

Keep in mind that heavy gloss can look out of place on a handmade product, while it suits bright, fun bath brands aimed at children or gift buyers. If you are unsure, ask for advice and we will suggest a finish that matches the rest of your range.

Finishes also change how the box handles. Soft-touch lamination resists scuffs from fingers in a busy shop, and uncoated kraft shows marks more easily but ages in a way many natural brands like. Choose with the selling setting in mind, not only the first impression. Bath bombs and salts from the same bench share finishes with the rest of the soap and bath packaging range.

Measure the Largest Bar From Three Batches

Hand-cut soap is never quite the same size twice, so before ordering measure bars from three different batches, take the largest in each dimension and add 2 to 3 mm to the length and width. Send those figures, not the mould size, and say if the bars are still curing when boxed, because a sweating bar wants a coated inside face. Decide how many scents share one layout, since changing only the scent name and a colour band keeps the run as one job.

Have the ingredient list and weight ready in their final wording, as the proof is the last point to catch a spelling slip. A custom quote comes back by email within one working day, with boxes from £0.25 and minimums quoted per job so a new scent can be tested. The free proof shows every panel flat. Production takes 4–7 working days after approval and the flat boxes arrive by free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged boxes reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded. Makers who want the bar seen through a shaped cut-out usually look at die-cut soap boxes with a window shape for the premium range.

Soap Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering soap boxes.

Should I choose kraft or white board for my soap boxes?

Kraft suits natural, handmade brands and looks best with bold, simple artwork. White board gives brighter colour and suits photography or pastel designs. We can send flat samples if you want to compare.

Can the box let the scent through?

Yes. Small die-cut holes or a window on one face let customers smell the bar without opening it. A sleeve over a paper-wrapped bar does the same job.

My bars vary in size. How do I get the fit right?

Measure several bars and use the largest, then add 2 to 3 mm to the length and width. We check the size on your proof and point out anything that looks tight.

Will a full ingredient list fit on a 90 x 60 mm box?

Yes, on the back panel at around 7 point, which is readable at arm’s length. Long botanical names wrap to several lines, so we set them flush left and keep the weight and scent name on a separate line. The proof shows the text at actual size so you can judge it.

Can I use one design for several scents?

Yes. Many makers keep one layout and change the scent name and a colour band per variety. We can print the versions in one run and quote them together.

Do cold-process bars need a coated inside face?

Usually only if they are boxed before curing has finished or the recipe is high in soft oils. A coated inside face stops the oils marking the board, and wrapping the bar in paper first does the same job. Tell us the recipe and curing time and we will advise.

Can I get a window in a kraft soap box?

Yes, windows can be cut into kraft or white board, with or without a clear film. An open window lets the scent through, while a filmed window keeps dust off.

How many soap boxes do I need to order?

Minimums are quoted per job, so small runs for a new scent are possible. Tell us how many scents and roughly how many boxes of each, and the custom quote will reflect that.

Do soap boxes arrive ready to use?

They arrive flat to save space and are folded by hand when you pack. Tuck end boxes fold in seconds with no glue needed.

What does a custom soap box cost?

Prices start from £0.25 per box. The final figure depends on the size, board, print and finish, and you get a custom quote by email within one working day.

Can I see the design before it is printed?

Yes, a free design proof is sent before any printing starts. Nothing is produced until you approve it.
