Custom Perfume Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom perfume boxes are the carton a fragrance lives in on the counter and in the customer's bathroom, so they need to protect a glass bottle and say something about the scent before the cap ever comes off. We make them with fitted bottle inserts, foil details and finishes that suit everyone from first-time perfumers to established fragrance houses.

A Box That Speaks Before the Scent Does

Perfume is bought with the nose, but it is chosen with the eyes. On a counter or a product page, shoppers cannot smell anything until they have already picked up the box, so the carton has to hint at the character of the fragrance. A fresh citrus scent might sit in a crisp white box with a bright accent. A smoky oud might suit deep black board with copper foil. A floral might lean towards soft pastels and a delicate pattern. The box is the first note of the composition.

It also has a practical job. Glass perfume bottles are heavy, smooth and fragile, and many have decorative caps that can crack if they knock against a box wall. The packaging must hold the bottle still, protect the atomiser and keep the cap seated, through warehouses, couriers and shop shelves.

Finally, a perfume box is often kept. Many people store their bottle in its box to keep it out of the light, which means your branding stays on the dressing table for as long as the bottle lasts.

Choosing a Structure

The structure sets the tone and the price point. These are the options perfumers ask us about most:

  • Reverse tuck-end carton: the standard retail perfume box, light and economical
  • Carton with a card insert: holds the bottle centred and stops it moving
  • Two-piece rigid box: a lift-off lid for prestige fragrances and gift editions
  • Magnetic closure box: a hinged lid that closes with a soft click
  • Drawer box: the bottle slides out on a tray from a printed sleeve
  • Cylinder box: a round tube that suits round bottles and statement launches

Designing the Insert Around the Bottle

Every perfume bottle is a different shape, so the insert is always custom. Send us the bottle, ideally with its cap fitted, or a technical drawing with the height, width, depth and cap size. We cut a card or foam insert that grips the bottle at the shoulder and the base, keeping the glass away from the walls and the cap away from the lid.

Card inserts can be printed to match the box, which looks neat when the customer lifts the bottle out. Foam inserts, often in black, give more cushioning for heavy flacons and expensive caps. For gift sets that include a body lotion or a travel spray, the insert can be divided to hold each item in its own cavity.

Allow a little room so the bottle comes out easily. A bottle that has to be wrestled from its box is a disappointing start to an expensive purchase.

Board, Print and Finishing Touches

Folding perfume cartons are usually made from a smooth white or black board around 350 to 400 gsm, which folds crisply and holds fine type. Metallic boards with a silver or gold base give shimmer under shop lighting without needing foil across the whole box. Rigid boxes use a thick greyboard core wrapped in printed or specialty paper.

Hot foil is the signature finish for perfume packaging, used for the brand name, the fragrance name or a fine border. Embossing and debossing add texture that customers feel as they turn the box in their hand. Soft-touch lamination gives a velvety surface, and spot UV can add a glossy pattern over a matt background. One or two finishes chosen with care almost always look better than every effect at once.

Pantone matching keeps your signature colour consistent across a range, which matters when several fragrances sit side by side.

Building a Fragrance Range

If you sell more than one scent, decide early how the boxes will relate to each other. Many houses keep the same structure, logo position and finish for every fragrance and change only the colour and the scent name, so the range reads as a family on the shelf. Others give each fragrance its own artwork but keep a shared typeface and foil colour as the link.

Bottle sizes also matter. A 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml version of the same scent usually need three box sizes. Keeping the proportions similar and scaling the artwork keeps the family look intact. Discovery sets and travel sprays can then borrow the same design language in smaller formats. See the discovery boxes for sample vial sets for how a range extends downwards.

Practical Panels and Information

Alongside the brand story, a perfume box needs room for the volume, the concentration such as eau de parfum or eau de toilette, ingredient listing, batch code and barcode. Plan these on the back or base panel from the start so they never crowd the front. We check on the proof that nothing important sits across a fold or glue flap.

Some brands add a short line about the scent's notes on a side panel, which helps customers choose when they cannot test the fragrance, especially online.

If you sell online, remember that the box will appear in product photos and unboxing videos far more often than on a shop shelf. A front panel that photographs well under natural light, without glare from heavy gloss, and an inside lid or insert that looks tidy when opened on camera both pay off. Matt and soft-touch finishes tend to photograph better than high gloss, and a foil detail catches just enough light to show up on screen without dazzling.

From First Run to Reorder

Send us the bottle or its measurements, the structure you like and your artwork or brand references. We reply with a custom quote by email within one working day, prepare the dieline and insert, and send a free design proof showing every panel and the foil areas, so nothing goes to press until you are happy.

Production takes 4–7 working days after approval, with free tracked delivery to the UK mainland in 2–3 working days. Misprinted or damaged items reported within 10 days of arrival are reprinted or refunded. Minimums are low and quoted per job, with prices from £0.25 a box for folding cartons, so new perfumers can launch with a modest first run.

For later reorders, keep your approved artwork and insert design on file with us so the next run is a straight repeat. If a bottle supplier changes the glass or cap slightly, send a new sample before reordering so we can check the insert still fits.

Perfume Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering perfume boxes.

Can you make an insert for our unusual bottle shape?

Yes. Every insert is cut to the bottle. Send us a bottle with its cap or a technical drawing and we will design a card or foam insert around it.

Which structure suits a luxury fragrance?

A two-piece rigid box or a magnetic closure box gives the most prestige. A well-finished folding carton with foil can also look very premium at a lower cost.

Can we foil the fragrance name?

Yes. Hot foil in gold, silver, copper or rose gold is the most popular finish on perfume boxes.

How do we keep a range of scents looking connected?

Keep the structure, logo position and finish the same, and change the colour and scent name for each fragrance.

Do you make boxes for 30, 50 and 100 ml bottles?

Yes. We size each box to the bottle and scale the artwork so the family look stays consistent across sizes.

Can we include a lotion in the same box?

A divided insert can hold a perfume bottle and a lotion or travel spray in separate cavities.

Will the bottle be easy to remove?

We allow a little room in the insert so the bottle lifts out cleanly without a struggle.

Where should ingredients and batch codes go?

Plan them on the back or base panel. We check on the proof that nothing falls across a fold.

Is metallic board a good alternative to foil?

Metallic board gives an all-over shimmer, and you can print colour over it. Foil is better for sharp, reflective details.

Can small perfumers order low quantities?

Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job, which suits first launches and limited batches.

How soon could boxes be ready for a launch?

Production takes 4–7 working days after you approve the free proof, followed by 2–3 working days of free tracked UK mainland delivery.
