Custom Drone Boxes

from £0.25 a boxPriced per job · low minimums

Custom drone boxes cradle a drone, its controller, batteries and spare propellers in cut foam pockets, so every part arrives in place and the box doubles as storage between flights. We make them as printed retail cartons and as rigid carry boxes for drone sellers, hobby shops and kit brands.

Packaging for a Product With Many Fragile Parts

A drone is not one item but a small collection of them. There is the airframe with its folding arms and gimbal camera, a controller with sticks that can snap, a charger, one or more batteries, a set of spare propellers, cables and often a small spanner for changing props. Each part has a different shape, and some, like gimbals and propeller tips, are delicate. Throwing them loose into a box with some bubble wrap is how products arrive scratched and how customers end up missing parts.

A well-designed drone box gives every component its own place. When the lid opens, the customer sees the drone sitting proudly in the centre with the controller and accessories arranged around it. Nothing moves in transit, missing items are obvious at the packing bench and the box is good enough to keep.

That last point matters. Many owners carry their drone in its original box for months, so a sturdy, well-printed box keeps your brand in front of them at every flying session. The same long-term storage role is played by the headphone boxes that double as cases.

Box Constructions to Choose From

Retail drone boxes are commonly made as a printed outer sleeve over a rigid or corrugated inner box with a lift-off lid. Larger and professional models often use a corrugated mailer with a foam insert, printed on the outside and inside, which is lighter and travels well by courier. Premium kits sometimes come in a rigid box with a magnetic flap and a carry handle.

Whatever the outer, the insert is the heart of the design. A beautifully printed box with a poor insert will still let parts rattle, while a plain box with a well-cut insert protects the product perfectly. We design both together so the pockets, lid depth and outer size all agree.

Battery safety is worth mentioning here. Lithium batteries should sit in their own pockets, separated from metal parts, and many sellers ship them at a partial charge. Printing a simple battery care note inside the box, alongside your own safety guidance, helps owners store and transport their drone sensibly.

Designing the Foam Insert

Foam inserts are cut to match the exact outline of each part. Polyethylene foam is firm and resilient, ideal for heavier drones and controllers. Softer polyurethane foam grips smaller items gently. Layered inserts, with a top layer for the drone and a lower layer for cables and chargers, make good use of depth.

Leave finger notches beside each pocket so parts can be lifted out without a struggle, and make sure propellers and the gimbal sit in recesses deep enough that nothing presses on them when the lid closes. For drones with folding arms, the insert should hold the drone folded, which is how it will be stored and carried.

If you prefer to avoid foam, die-cut corrugated or moulded pulp inserts can work for lighter drones, though they offer less shock absorption. Foam types and pocket depths are described on the cut foam inserts for fragile products page.

Sizing Custom Drone Boxes

Lay out the drone and all its accessories on a sheet of paper in the arrangement you want, with a little space between each part, and measure the overall area and the tallest item. Add the foam thickness around the edges and below the deepest pocket to arrive at the internal dimensions of the box.

Small folding camera drones fit boxes around 250 by 200 by 90 mm. Mid-size models with spare batteries need 350 by 280 by 120 mm or so. Larger professional drones and FPV kits with goggles can reach 500 mm or more in length. Send us photos of your layout with a ruler beside it, and we will draw the box and insert together on the proof.

Check the size against courier bands too, since a box a few millimetres over a threshold can cost noticeably more to send. Our guide to measuring a product for packaging explains how to allow for foam walls.

Print and Branding

Drone buyers care about specifications, so the outer box usually shows a striking product image on the front and key features on the sides: flight time, camera resolution, range and weight. Keep your figures consistent with your listings, as buyers compare them carefully.

Matt lamination with spot gloss on the product image gives a sleek, technical look. Inside print on the lid, such as a quick-start diagram or a reminder to register and check local flying rules, is a thoughtful touch that customers appreciate on first opening.

For hobby kits sold in several versions, keep one design and use a coloured band or sticker to indicate which bundle is inside.

Some sellers also print a QR code beside the quick-start diagram, linking to a setup video or firmware page. It keeps the box tidy while giving new pilots far more help than a printed leaflet could hold. Print finishes that survive being handled at every flying session are compared in the print and finish options guide.

Who Uses Custom Drone Boxes

Drone brands and importers use them for their retail packaging. Hobby shops repack used and refurbished drones in branded boxes for resale. FPV hobbyists selling ready-to-fly kits want boxes that hold frames, goggles and radios together. Training schools and survey firms order rugged reusable boxes for their own fleets, with pockets labelled for each component.

Accessory brands selling spare batteries, propeller sets and landing pads use smaller matching boxes, so their products look like part of the same family.

Rental companies are another growing group. A drone hired out for a weekend comes back in the same box, so they choose rugged boards, firm foam and labelled pockets that make it obvious at a glance if anything is missing on return. Speaker and audio accessories for the same shop sit in the bluetooth speaker boxes with inserts.

Lay the Kit Out and Photograph It From Above

A drone box is built from a photograph. Put every component on a plain sheet in the arrangement you want the customer to see, with the drone folded as it ships, batteries on their sides and the controller with its sticks removed if they come off. Photograph it from directly above with a ruler in shot, then measure the tallest item. That image becomes the foam layout on the proof, and it also tells you if the box will fall into the next courier size band before anything is cut.

Send the photo, the component list and the quantity, and a custom quote comes by email within one working day, with simple accessory boxes from £0.25 and minimums quoted job by job, which suits a small batch of a new model or refurbished stock. The free proof covers the box, the foam pockets and the artwork. Production follows approval in 4 to 7 working days and free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days; any box that arrives damaged or misprinted is reprinted or refunded if reported within 10 days. Goggles and cameras sold separately use the same approach as our camera boxes with cut foam.

Drone Boxes Questions

What buyers ask before ordering drone boxes.

Which foam is best for a drone insert?

Polyethylene foam is firm and protective for drones and controllers. Softer polyurethane foam suits small, delicate parts. Many inserts use both.

Can the insert hold the drone with arms folded?

Yes. We cut the pocket to the folded shape, which is how the drone is usually stored and carried.

How do I give you the layout?

Arrange the parts on paper, photograph them with a ruler and send the photos and measurements. We draw the insert on the proof.

Can the box be reused as a carry case?

Rigid boxes with a carry handle or magnetic flap make good storage and carry boxes between flights.

Can you print a quick-start guide inside the lid?

Yes. The inside of the lid is a good place for a setup diagram or a reminder to check local flying rules, as it faces the pilot the moment the box opens. It is drawn on the proof alongside the foam layout.

Do you make boxes for spare batteries?

Yes. Smaller accessory boxes with foam pockets hold batteries and propellers and match your main box.

Can I avoid foam?

Die-cut corrugated or moulded pulp inserts suit lighter drones, though foam gives better shock absorption.

How do I show different bundles?

Use one main design and add a coloured band or sticker for each bundle, which keeps print runs efficient.

What do drone boxes cost?

Simple accessory boxes start from £0.25 each. Full drone boxes with inserts are priced per job, and we email a custom quote within one working day.

Can I order a small run for refurbished stock?

Yes. Minimums are low and quoted per job, which suits small batches.

Will the box survive a courier network?

A corrugated mailer with a fitted foam insert protects well in transit. For rigid retail boxes we suggest a plain outer shipper.
