Custom Chocolate Cookie Boxes
Custom chocolate cookie boxes have to cope with a product that is thick, soft in the middle, studded with melting chocolate and liable to snap if it rattles about. We print boxes, trays and mailers sized for chunky bakery-style cookies, so they reach your customer whole and looking the way they did on the cooling rack.

Why Chocolate Cookies Need Their Own Box
A thin shortbread can survive almost any packaging. A thick, gooey double chocolate cookie cannot, and it needs more care than the standard cookie box gives. Its centre stays soft for days, chocolate chunks sit proud of the surface, and the edges are crisp enough to crack under pressure. Pack these cookies loosely in a generic box and they slide into each other, leaving smears of chocolate on the lid and broken halves at the bottom.
Chocolate also reacts to warmth. On a warm day, or in a van parked in the sun, the chunks soften and stick to whatever touches them. A greaseproof liner or individual glassine sleeves stop cookies sticking to the board and to each other.
So a good chocolate cookie box is about fit, separation and a surface the chocolate will not ruin. Get those right and the printed design gets to do its job.
Box Formats That Suit Cookie Shops
Cookie shops tend to sell in a few predictable ways: a single cookie at the counter, a box of four or six to take away, and boxes of six, eight or twelve posted to customers around the country. Each needs a slightly different format, from a single cookie sleeve at the till to a corrugated mailer for the post.
Most brands keep one design across all of them so the range looks like a family. A window on the counter box lets people see the cookies; posted boxes usually skip the window because film can crack in transit.
- Single cookie sleeve or small window box for counter sales
- Flat window box holding four or six in one layer
- Tray and lid box with a card divider for stacked cookies
- Corrugated mailer with a fitted insert for posting
- Tube or tall box for cookies stacked on edge
- Gift box with a ribbon slot for corporate orders

Measuring Thick, Irregular Cookies
Bakery-style cookies are rarely perfectly round. Measure the widest one from a typical batch rather than an average, and measure height at the tallest chunk of chocolate, not at the edge; the guide to measuring your product covers the clearance to add. Add 5 to 8 mm to the diameter and 5 mm to the height so the lid clears the chunks.
For stacked formats, measure a stack of the number you plan to pack, with liners between them. Soft cookies settle slightly as they cool, so measure once they are fully cool, not straight off the tray. Stuffed cookies with a filled centre can be much taller and heavier than a standard cookie, so treat them separately.
If you plan to sell a mixed box, such as chocolate chip, white chocolate and triple chocolate together, a divider with individual cells keeps flavours apart and makes the box look generous when opened.
Liners, Dividers and Glassine
The inside of the box matters as much as the outside. A greaseproof base liner absorbs the small amount of butter that cookies release and stops marks soaking through the board. Glassine bags or sleeves around each cookie keep chocolate from transferring and make each one easy to lift out.
Card dividers come in two main forms: a simple cross-divider that splits a box into four, and a die-cut insert with round cells that cradle each cookie. Round cells work best for posted boxes because they stop any sideways movement. For counter boxes, a flat divider is usually enough.
Printed liners are a nice touch for gift boxes. A pattern or the brand name on greaseproof paper looks good when the lid comes off and costs much less than printing the box interior.
Posting, Displaying and Keeping Cookies Fresh
Cookies posted nationwide face the same rough handling as any parcel. The safest approach is a printed retail box inside a plain or lightly printed corrugated mailer, or a single corrugated mailer box with a fitted insert. Both keep the cookies from taking the impact when the parcel is dropped.
Seal each cookie in a bag before boxing to keep it fresh in transit. A small printed card with storage advice, such as keeping the box at room temperature away from sunlight, helps customers enjoy them at their best and reduces complaints about texture.
If your cookies are very soft, consider a box with a slightly deeper base so they sit lower and are supported on all sides.
Chocolate cookies are at their best for a short window, and the box can help or hinder that. A box with a window lets in light, which is fine for a day on a counter but not for a week on a gift shop shelf. If your cookies will be displayed for longer, consider a sealed bag inside a closed box, with a small window in the bag rather than the carton.
Keep counter boxes away from the coffee machine and front windows, where heat softens the chocolate. A short line on the box base, such as best enjoyed within a few days, sets expectations and stops customers saving them too long.
For gift boxes ordered by companies, cookies may sit in an office before being handed out. A tighter-fitting box with liners and a ribbon that holds the lid closed keeps them protected until the recipient opens them, and a printed sticker with the bake date reassures them they are fresh.
Design That Looks Like Chocolate
Chocolate cookie brands often use rich browns, creams and gold. That works, but a whole aisle of brown boxes can blur together. Many successful cookie shops pick one unexpected brand colour, such as a bright pink or deep green, and use chocolate tones only as accents.
Photography of the cookie with a melting centre is tempting, but a strong illustration or bold type often reads better on a small box. A matt laminate feels soft and pairs well with dark colours, while a gold foil on the logo adds a treat-like finish for gift ranges. Our free proof shows the full layout, including where the lid and base meet, so nothing important falls on a fold.
Bake a Batch, Pick the Ugliest Cookie and Measure That One
Cookie boxes are sized from the worst case, not the prettiest cookie on the photo. Bake a normal batch, find the widest and tallest one, and measure those two figures with a ruler across the chocolate chunks. Then decide how many go in a box and whether they lie flat in a tray, stand on edge in a tube or sit in round cells for posting. Stuffed and gooey ranges need a deeper base and a glassine sleeve each, and a printed greaseproof liner is worth adding if cookies will touch the board, with food-contact grade board available on request.
Send the diameter and height, the count per box, the style and any liners or dividers, and a custom quote arrives by email within one working day; simple items start from £0.25 with minimums quoted per job, so a box of six can be trialled in a small run. A free design proof follows, production takes 4 to 7 working days after approval, and free tracked delivery reaches UK mainland addresses in 2 to 3 working days. Shops that also sell brownies usually order the brownie boxes in the same artwork alongside.

Chocolate Cookie Boxes Questions
What buyers ask before ordering chocolate cookie boxes.
How do I stop chocolate smearing on the lid?
Allow enough height for the tallest chunk and wrap each cookie in a glassine sleeve. A greaseproof liner on the base helps too.
Which box is safest for posting soft cookies?
A corrugated mailer with a round-cell insert, or a retail box inside a plain mailer. Both stop the cookies moving and absorb knocks.
Should posted cookie boxes have a window?
Usually not. Window film can crack in the post and lets light in. Keep windows for counter boxes where cookies are seen before purchase.
How much space do stuffed cookies need?
Measure them separately because they are often taller and heavier. We usually suggest a deeper base and a cell insert for stuffed ranges.
Can the liner paper be printed?
Yes, printed greaseproof liners carry your pattern or logo and are an affordable way to brand the inside of the box. They also stop chocolate marking the base board, so the box looks clean when the last cookie comes out.
Can one box hold different flavours separately?
A die-cut divider with individual cells keeps each flavour apart and makes a mixed box look tidy when opened. Tell us the flavours per box and we size each cell to the largest cookie in the range.
Will chocolate cookie boxes arrive flat?
Folding card and corrugated styles arrive flat and fold quickly. Rigid gift boxes, if you choose them, arrive assembled.
Do unwrapped chocolate cookies need a particular board?
If cookies sit directly on the card rather than in sleeves, ask for food-contact grade board, which we supply on request. Most shops sleeve each cookie in glassine instead, which keeps chocolate off the box and lets standard board do the job.
How soon can I have boxes for a launch?
Production takes 4 to 7 working days after you approve the free proof, then free tracked UK mainland delivery takes 2 to 3 working days. Send cookie measurements with the enquiry so the proof is not held up by a second round of questions.
Can I order a small run to test a new box size?
Yes, minimums are low and quoted per job, which makes it easy to trial a box of six before committing to larger runs. Many shops test one format at the counter for a few weeks and then reorder with changes.
What happens if the round-cell inserts arrive bent?
Report any damage within 10 days with a photo and we reprint or refund the affected items. A bent cell insert will not hold cookies still in the post, so set those aside rather than using them.
